Not possible, a button can only have one function and is programmed for a number or action(volume, menu etc).
Letters are only for remote to look like cellphone and cooler, no function.
To enter letters, you can connect a USB PC keyboard or an airmouse with keyboard on one side.

Strange, but why then on the remote drawn letters? And there is a button to change the numbers/letters in uppercase/lowercase letters(1/A/a), it changes the input mode to the on-screen keyboard. May be the firmware is not configured?
Used TV SUPRA STV-LC32S650WL, this TV with Android 4 and it is possible to enter letters/numbers from the IR remote. mo123 can provide a link to the firmware SUPRA STV-LC32S650WL may be able to understand how the implementation letter. http://supra.ru/catalog/145/306 .html

It does look like the TV remote can type letters.
Don't think it will be possible on Rockchip RK3188 device, unless Rockchip make changes to kernel to add support for letters on certain remotes. I won't even know where to start to do something like this.
Will look at firmware and see if I can find something, probably it is inside kernel, but kernel is one file and not the source code where you can see all the code of remote. You can't de-compile kernel that is already made. Company making TV/Remote should release source code of kernel, then we can see how remote works and maybe add it to Rockchip TV box.

            Hi brahner
If your main use is Kodi (XBMC), then you can configure the keyboard.xml as described in the following link

Hello, Yes I use spmc as a media player/launcher. Thank you for your advice. But for the rest of the programs input from the remote control is not available.

                Kingo Root worked great! Thanks.

First, I had tried VRoot (now iRoot) but that was a waste of time. It didn't do anything plus it put two Chinese language apps on my Q7 that I had to delete.

I got this Q7 from Geekbuying recently. I ordered the 4.2.2 but it came with 4.4.2.

You have to make sure that when you connect to your PC, the Q7 is recognized and the drivers install (and you can see the files on the unit). That didn't happen when I first connected to an XP lapotop, but was automatic when I plugged into my Windows 7.

This is the board and marking:

                      1080P

While I'm here, can someone tell me whether my Q7 (the one above) is showing me 1080P on my screen. This has stock firmware as delivered (4.4.2). All these units are advertised as running "full 1080P", but while it looks ok on the screen, it doesn't look like 1080P. I've clicked "1920x1080Px60" in settings but Antutu shows the resolution as 1280x720" and runs the graphic test at that resolution. I haven't been able to run any XBMC material at 1080 (I don't see anything higher than 720).

BTW, the Antutu benchmark for the unit is 20,900 which seems pretty good.

Is the only way I can actually run 1080P by installing modded firmware (which I don't want to do under warranty)? I have rooted my unit.

                      Thanks.

Sadly yes, because the kernel only supports 720P... the 1080P you see is only an upscale... (same old story with every stock fw)... but I don't know which custom rom with real 1080p kernel works at this pcb...

Before you flash another rom you can also take a dump of the stock fw:

                          XBMX & Vu Duo

I know there is DreamDroid for watching on Android, but is there an Add-on for XBMC to watch a Vu Duo or other Enigma 2 box?

Tried TuxBox but couldn't get it to work.

Th VUPlus Add-on is what I added on the laptop though and it works fine on that. The fact I don't have it or can't find it is where I'm lost.

Do you know how to add this to the Q7's xbmc.
