    small succes

Today I was able to get it run properly. I have exactly the same mainboard like wazzuperz123 from first post.
Thing that I do was the same like him, but my player did not want to boot after flashing any Hybrid Firmware by lewy20041. I tried with couple kernels and roms and finally I got it fully working with: K-R42 - wasser firmware version 1.2.5 old revision

    + 1080p kernel from new revision http://www.freak-tab.de/wasser/kerne..._new-1.2.5.zip

done with RKAndroidTool. After that I had to turn it off/on because it didnt boot automatically. Finally I got 1080p with working ethernet (bt,wifi, blue led dont work) and can run xbmc minix edition

        Still choppy though.

and try the beyond xbmc on Q7, it is the best xbmc version we have tested.
I have 2 of these boxes and have the newest stock firmware on them. It doesn't matter what version of XBMC is on them, there is still choppy playback on them, and this is unacceptable considering the main reason most people buy these boxes is to stream online content in XBMC. Geekbuying needs to invest in their stock firmware to make selling these boxes viable, everything works but all that is needed is the kernel fixing to stop the video stutter issue. Unfortunately I don't posess these skills so my boxes will sit in a cupboard collecting dust until a solution is found. I have had to buy an additional MK908ii to compensate with finless 1.6 rom for the time being.

I have the same problem. I flash something and it will not boot. Thank you for your configuration.
I also extracted the kernel image from the original fw, patched it with phjandersons rkpatchomatic and it doesn't boot..

              Q7 custom rom

I have made a custom rom for these q7 machines. This rom is based on the latest standard from geekbuying.com. This is by no stretch of the imagination equal to what the professional rom developers do here but a quick fix to make the box usable for 720p and 1080p streaming video until Lewy or someone else steps in.
              Whats done:
kernel is vidsync patched and overclocked to gpu 798 ddr 800 cpu stock
              some useless apps deleted
added some useful apps wifianalyser and beyond xbmc (Thanks Flumster!!)
changed bootanimation to something I like better
Think you will find 1080 and 720 movies will play smooth now no micro skipping. Flash at your own risk hopefully your box will not explode..............
              download from here:

This is not rooted and i have no idea on sound config just run thru the tv hdmi
Thats all hopefully helps a few.

              Cheers,
              Vec

What timing, you posted this about a minute before I was going to bed. Looks like I'm staying up a bit longer to try your rom. I'll post my results soon!

Well, to my frustration, Rockchip Batch Tool 1.7 doesn't see my device (I have the exact same Q7 Rk3188 board that you have) when booted in recovery mode. I don't even get a blue box, let alone the green box i need. My device is rooted, not sure if that makes a difference. I'm getting into recovery using the Reboot app.

Not sure what I did wrong, but I did have to manually edit the .inf file for Google's generic USB driver for windows to see the device while it was in recovery. I used:
                  Code:
                  ;Rockchip Android Device
                  %CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_18D1&PID_D001&REV_0222
There was 2 Device IDs for the Q7 while it was in recovery, not sure if I used the right one. Any ideas? Or any other ways to flash this rom using another tool?

Thanks a lot, I'm flashing it as we speak. And don't put yourself down, I haven't had a single lewy rom work properly or even at all on my Q7's or my mk908ii! The thing with these boxes is that they don't need overclocking or anything else for that matter, the stock firmware would be perfect if not for the frame skipping.

UPDATE: Tried flashing twice, update fail. Back to the cupboard for this Q7!

Update 2: tried again and it works. Still not as smooth as Finless 1.6 on my mk908ii, but it's a lot better than the choppiness of the stock rom. Thanks a lot!

Update 3: It is as smooth as Finless rom, I was using the wrong video to test. Well done, you should post your firmware as a separate thread on the forum to help other misguided Q7 users.

Ok so I booted the Q7 into flash mode, and flashed the custom rom from veclinux. It worked, but every 10 seconds or so I lose HDMI for 1 second, and screen goes black. This loop continues on and on while I'm using it.

                          Anyone had this happen before?

Update: Switched to 720p output instead of 1080p, that fixed the black flicker. I still have really poor/buggy USB response with my wireless mouse/keyboard - have to click many things two or three times before it registers my click etc.

                          Update 2:
Wireless USB is working well now, the problem was the box trying to acquire an IP address with no ethernet (no wi-fi available on this kernel). Everything else is working quite well, running Beyond XBMC 3.4 with smooth 720p streaming playback. Haven't tried 1080p yet due to the glitch I mentioned above.

Anyone able to get passthrough working on the Q7 box with this rom? So far I've had no luck. I get the raw data sound coming through as if my receiver can't decode the ac3/dd stream.

                              Linux on Q7?

Just got the Q7 box from Geekbuying. I flashed the newest firmware this weekend, and still doesn't quite like the way to navigate with it. Has anyone here tried to put Linux on this puppy? I did a google search, though there are people with Linux on similar device, not everything is working.

Use the above firmware, it's the only one that works perfectly without the micro frame skipping issue, you won't ever need another rom.
