Brilliant mate, been struggling to get gapps going on the kitkat 4.4.2 rom from greekbuying, box seems quicker and smoother with it.
As soon as youve uploaded, its on mine.

Thanks for the hard work mate.

Got the firmware and xbmc up and running lewy, brilliant mate! Both are running great, box seems very snappy. Im still getting the glitch when im on 1080, even on home screen or app etc, happens every 10-20 secs. Running perfect on 720, Looks great also!

      Thanks mate, great job.

                    I prefer veclinux's rom.

Tried Lewy's rom, thought I was on to a winner with true 1080p but the dreaded micro frame skipping issue is back even on 720p vids. Not as bad as the stock firmware, but is really noticeable when the video is panning across. Back to veclinux for me (not sure why I flashed lewy's as this works perfectly for me).

Beyond 3.4. Tried the Q7 justxbmc but it wasn't anywhere near as good.

Thanks! I'll give it a try because choppy playback came back with this rom!

                            installing picuntu

                            Hi
Could someone talk me thru installing picuntu .. or another linux version to the RK3188 Q7 media box
please, or direct me to site from which they have had personal success.

There seem to be a lot of discriptions but they all seem somewhat incomplete to me.

My Q7 is currently running RBox and android 4.2.2

I can get it to boot into the android maintain menu .. but have been unsuccessful, to date, in getting it to
use the windows flashing utility to update the firmware (the box is not recognised by the flashing utility).

Additionally I am confused as to whether to install the new firmware to the onboard rom or to the micro sd card (my preference).

I would like, ultimately, to run it headless .. and interect via a virtual terminal thru the wifi link ..so I can use it to interface to another peice of h/w I have which would connect via the wired ethernet port.

                            Thanks

talk thru linux installation on q7

                              Hi Wenlez

Could you give me a bit of direction on how you installed linux on your Q7?

I have looked at the picuntu news groups and although there is a lot . I cannot find much direct reference to the q7.

My objective is to run it headless and interact via the wifi link .. I want to connect it to another peice of equipment via the wired ethernet.
Would also like to be able to compile the interface code natively on the q7 (this is the code for dspserver .. part of the hpsdr project) .. so will need gcc and some libraries on the q7 .. I presume this is ok with a microsd card

Mine is currently running rbox on android 4.2.2 .. that is the way it came. Installing alternative boot code on the internal flash is also a bit opaque to me at the moment ...

                              Thanks

                              Stephen

I didn't install liunx on my Q7, and i'm looking to do the same. There doesn't seem to be a way to successfully install linux at the moment.
