If someone wants to be resourceful, perhaps a little testing is in order.

Try flashing this ROM, exchanging files from the previous ROM one at a time.

First test the misc.img from 2.4 with 2.5.1

Next test the recovery.img from 2.4 with 2.5.1

    Next test the boot.img

    Next test the kernel.img

Lastly, try the system.img from 2.4

By process of elimination, we can find the file that is causing problems.

The challenge in using ROM dumps is that the files provided are of the size of the partition, not necessarily the size of the original file. For instance, the misc.img is a lot bigger from the ROM dump. There is a bunch of wasted space (which also may contain errors/corruptions).

    I extracted the boot.img/system.img files and resized them...but I didn't touch the recovery.img or the misc.img.
I am happy to test but it may take a few days to get round to it (preparing for a holiday next week).

By trying it out do you mean starting from a working RR2.4, running the flashing tool (v1.37 if I remember correctly) and then only flash the RR2.5.1 file misc.img, reboot, if that works then proceed to the recovery.img and repeat with subsequent .img files until something breaks?

Before starting I will take a CWM backup (stored on an SD card) so I can restore to my RR2.4 that I have started rebuilding.

Actually, it is the other way around. Start with the complete 2.5.1 ROM and one at a time, flash the components of the 2.4 ROM until the tablet boots.

I just need to know which file in the 2.5.1 ROM is the culprit. I think it may be the misc.img...but it could be boot or kernel images. I really don't think it is the system.img.

        Ok, so to clarify
Flash the full 2.5.1 and get the dead android on reboot
Then flash the first .img file from 2.4, reboot and see if I get the dead android
Repeat until it boots into the tablet properly
Report the progress and which was the final file when it sprang into life

OK, I'll see if I can try that tonight but I can't promise anything.
Will report back when it is done.

Worst case...just go back to 2.4. We know it works.

                1. Flash 2.4 - immediately after flashing tablet rebooted and got RR2.4, yay!
                2. Flash 2.5.1 - black screen, tablet not recognised by Windows even after 6s on RESET pin
                3. Connected USB, press ESC for 5s, then add pressing RESET for 5s, then add pressing POWER for 5s (after 3s the tablet booted into FLASH mode (as detected by flashing tool v1.37).
                4. Let go of ESC and RESET, keeping POWER pressed I flashed misc.img
                5. Rebooted (6s on RESET) still got black screen, tablet not recognised by Windows
                6. Connected USB, press ESC for 5s, then add pressing RESET for 5s, then add pressing POWER for 5s (after 3s the tablet booted into FLASH mode (as detected by flashing tool v1.37).
                7. Let go of ESC and RESET, keeping POWER pressed I flashed recovery.img
                8. This then booted into the recovery image
                9. After many seconds the tablet shut down (time out on recovery?)
                10. Rebooted (6s on RESET) still got black screen, tablet not recognised by Windows
                11. Connected USB, press ESC for 5s, then add pressing RESET for 5s, then add pressing POWER for 5s (after 3s the tablet booted into FLASH mode (as detected by flashing tool v1.37).
                12. Let go of ESC and RESET, keeping POWER pressed I flashed boot.img
                13. Rebooted (6s on RESET) still got black screen, tablet not recognised by Windows
                14. Connected USB, press ESC for 5s, then add pressing RESET for 5s, then add pressing POWER for 5s (after 3s the tablet booted into FLASH mode (as detected by flashing tool v1.37).
                15. Let go of ESC and RESET, keeping POWER pressed I flashed kernel.img
                16. Immediately after flashing the tablet rebooted and I saw the RileyRom kernel logo (Fireman's hat?)
                17. After that booted I got a spinning "Freakbab.com" and "RileyROM" (left to right) boot animation with spinning ring (top to bottom)
                18. After that I got the Android launcher and the standard starting up page of the ROM, yay!

One worrying thing was that during the times that I pressed the ESC button and then the RESET button twice I heard what I could only describe as a snap/pop sound like an electrical bang. It didn't seem to do any harm as the tablet booted up OK (once it happened when I was going back to RR2.4).

                I hope that helps

OK, so the kernel is the culprit. I will look into that. The sound you hear is the camera...it is normal.

So...with everything from the 2.5.1 ROM, Just flash the 2.4 kernel.

                    Strike that...only flash the boot.img from 2.5.1.

Keep the misc and recovery from 2.4.

Tomorrow, I will try signing the boot.img kernel I extracted...and see if it will work.

Glad to know it was the camera. Was getting kind of worried I was electrocuting something inside :-P

                            Hi folks,
Sorry for answer so late but I am on holidays and I'm not at home. I tested the two first versions of Riley but is doesn't work for me (android dead).
I will be able to test it when I arrive home. I also can dump the firmware another time if it is necessary.

                              Hi,

I installed this rom on my pipo m9, and he don't "back".

It's dead. How i can fix this issue ? How i can firstly turn on the tablet ?

                              Regards,
                              Portugues

Edit: Ok, i turned on the tablet but appears the android on the floor with a red signal.

                              anyone can help me ?

Download RileyROM 2.4, extract it to a folder, run the flashing tool v1.37 (should be in the top folder of the extracted file), insert the USB lead to the tablet and the PC. Press the ESC button down for 5 seconds, keeping the ESC button pressed insert a paperclip into the RESET button on the back of the tablet and press it in for 5 seconds, then with the ESC button AND the RESET buttons pressed also press the POWER button for 5 seconds. You should now see the flashing tool recognise the tablet. Keep the POWER button pressed and click "Flash the ROM". You can now let go of the RESET and ESC buttons but keep pressing the POWER button. Once it has finished flashing the tablet should reboot and you will be back on Riley ROM 2.4.

If that doesn't work try repeating it but before clicking the "Flash the ROM" click "Erase NAND" and then carry as before. WARNING - THIS WILL WIPE OUT YOUR INTERNAL SD CARD.
