No output from HDMI

Hi!

I just fixed my HDMI problem!
I noticed that when forcing the connector against the pcb, it would start working.

The soldering is the issue.
Lucky me I have some soldering skills/tools.

I just spread a little soldering flux on the connector pins and re-soldered the connector.

Working good now!

I'm pretty sure that the case also doesn't give the connector much health...

I noticed that when inserting the pcb in the case, the HDMI connector suffers a bit (the plastic case makes some force and it seems to twist a bit). That may also contribute to break the solder.


I'll post a pic of the final result in a few minutes.

Yeah, if this could really be the ultimate cause for all that suffer from this problem, then I could see that this is the potential issue, I have noticed the same when it comes to disassembling and reassembling - would be interested to know if all those affected have removed the case previously or not??, a question I was supposed to ask by now... Given that there's been a few reports of straight out the box hdmi failures I'm not so sure, but then the design alone and pressure placed on connectors could well be enough.. difficult to say, hopefully more people can resolve the issue with a bit of trial and error as I'm still skeptical as to wether it's a simple case of HD ports working loose or a more complex hardware failure...

One person already reported that he broke his HDMI port taking it out of the case!

Maybe enlarge the hole at the case a little bit?

So for me it's unfortunately not the port. I gently pulled and pressed the connector but I still get no picture. What should I do? The TV shows very short 576i on the display but stands black. Tried on two TVs (Samsung LED and Panasonic Plasma) with different cables. No success.

I just received my unit after waiting and waiting and waiting. IT IS DEAD OUT OF THE BOX. No HDMI output, I haven't even tried the A/V port because none of my monitors support that bullshit format. Does anyone know how the RMA process works? I'm beyond sad

So I gave the whole "push on the HDMI" cable a try, and wouldnt you know it, it works. I have to apply a lot of pressure in order for it to work though. So now what do I do?

Still send it back, not good enough, should work out of the box, let alone a week down the line. Shows what sort of quality control and product testing geekbuying have, not good enough at all

i'm seriously considering sending it back. This is utter nonsense, and Freaktab advertises Geekbuying which is how I found the device in the first place. This is unacceptable.

My dad posted his Beelink m8 back to me - with faulty HDMI (did not open). Will open it and res-solder the pins. Lets see what happens. Also will check the protection circuit etc.

O yes, one thing he did. He purchased a HDMI switch and then the HDMI port got buggered. Coincidental?

Well i'm happy to report that I got it working. It's utter crap that I had to heat up the solder points on the HDMI port for it to happen. It now displays video through the HDMI port. Pyn was right, i pushed the HDMI port down on the PCB and it lit up the port without having to jack with the cable. So I fired up my soldering iron, melted a little solder on the tip to create a hotspot, flipped the board over and found something small enough that I could press the HDMI port down on each corner as I heated up the connection point. After doing all 4 i'm happy to report that the connection and display is solid even with moving the HDMI cable around...AS IT SHOULD BE FROM THE FKING FACTORY.

I don't like having to crack open my brand new devices that I spent over $100USD on. Shame on Geekbuying.

It seems that the ground planes are causing solder reflow probs. (Not enough heat).

Thanks a lot for this tip. So I pressed the port very very hard (until my thumb goes white) and I get a picture back. So it makes me happy to hear that only the 4 mounting point have to fixed. This is large enough for my soldering experience. If the small data pins where also loose, I had to give up. So I will test it tomorrow and give back result.
