may be a silly question to you guys but thought I would ask anyway please don't laugh... but does it make any difference if the M8 is rooted?

Did you try turning on and off via the remote?

Here's a new build for M8 that has the following changes:
                • forces 720p video mode at startup that should fix the no splash / no signal issue.
                • enables 5GHz band for built-in Wi-Fi.

When I use my gbox running OpenELEC for live TV and the live channel doesn't load up and just continuously
spins and says working. I have manually stop it with the remote and it freezes. The only way to get out is to turn the power off with the remote. When the live TV channel is frozen on the M8 running this build the power button will not work at all and there is no way to turn the box off besides pulling the power plug out.

On my 46 inch tv I get no M8 splash logo and no OpenELEC logo, just bolack screen then gotham, then xbmc and that with video settings both 1280 x 720p or 1920x 1080p . On my 26inch TV I get M8 logo, no OpenELEC, but black screen, gotham then xbmc.

Also box goes right into xbmc when powered back on, no boot up.

Your live tv issue could be to do with the version of librtmp included in the openelec build? I'm not sure what version codesnake has in his build.

My logitech k400 wireless keyboard works fine also.

I'm not familiar with that, even though I do have an idea what rtmp is only because I've seen it in some live channel sections.

Its no big deal when it freeze on the gbox because I can just turn the box off with the remote and not have to worry about losing my settings when I power back on since Codesnake fixed that issue.

But M8 will not power off at all with the remote when it freezes.

The remote in G18 works in hardware mode, so pressing the power button is the same as pressing the hardware button to turn it on/off. But in M8 the remote works in software mode, so when XBMC is busy it just doesn't handle the power button press.
