Today I received from WeTek new WeTek Android update, and now streaming works from device to any android smartphone or tablet

For example from DVB-T I am able to stream directly to my tablet with WeControl app which is done by WeTek.

some questions about the wtek play

Hi folks really interested in this as a one box solution. Hope some kind soul can answer some of my queries,

Can you get a version that works with normal digital tv as in freeview and if so do you get the normal hd channels.

Can you record tv and if so can you record one watch another. Does it generate a standard epg or do you need to acquire one.
does it have normal skip forward pause functions
Finally if anyone has one does it work well with xbmc/kodi and are the addons etc compatible

Sorry for all the questions but hope someone can help out and hope I have put this in the right place
          Many Thanks

            Hi aardvark,

Freeview should work without any issue on WeTek Play. Their hybrid tuner support DVB-C/T/T2 at one tuner. I have DVB-S2 version, and on Astra 19.2E and 13.0E EPG is generated automatically for each channel.

Timeshift and normal PVR is also working, and I tested it with DVB-S2 version, by recording on my WD 1 TB external HDD connected by USB to WeTek Play. pause, play, fast forward and backward, both is working.

Actually is first Android TV device with very nice DVB Player.

Even on this video, they explained how to record, but also there is video of showing how to play PVR files

My device come with v1.0 Sw which is shipped with XBMC Gotham 13.2 version, then I deleted it and installed Kodi Helix 14.0 RC3 version, and so far everything is working, including some addos which are important for me.

And of course, there is OpenELEC 5.0 based on Helix Kodi 14.0 RC2 version, so You can boot it directly from MicroSD card, and use even VDR or tvheadend for DVB under OpenELEC as Live TV.

Many thanks droidelec for the response, can you help me out here and clarify. You said the hybrid tuner supports DVB-C/T/T2 at one tuner............does this mean yo can only record and watch one channel at a time............does the sat version allow you to record one and watch another. Could you also clarify, can you record tv whilst using xbmc/kodi??

Thanks again, i have tried to send an email but their site is down.

                You are welcome aardwark

WeTek Satellite tuner is with 2 x DVB-S2, so practically you have two tuners with two inputs. For example I tryed in WeTek Theater to record one channel and watch other channel from same Transponder/frequency on Tuner 1 and it works.

I am pretty sure that you can do same operations with Tuner 2.

Hybrid tuner act as one tuner, you just need to select what type of signal you want to scan and thats it. If recording one channel from same frequency I think it is possible also to watch another channel from same frequency on cable/terrestrial.

I tryed tvheadend on OpenELEC and i also make video of it, in this thread. I can try with recording, as I saw option at tvheadend for that.

Btw. WeTek logo is from yesterday listed at www.openelec.tv so probably soon there will be official support for WeTek Play, which is great news.

My video of OpeneELEC 4.2.0 with DVB, but in that stage was with early support of DVB in old kernel, as now is kernel 3.10.61 in OpenELEC 5.0 by Codesnake for WeTek Play.

Cheers again droidelec very helpful..... you are a bright burning star in the blanket of night, I have managed to send wetek an email so hopefully they can clarify a couple of things for me. I have to say it seems to be a keenly priced wee box given the features. At the moment I am using a minix x8 which is fine although really only used as a media centre however it seems quite fast especially in comparison to the old atv 2 jailbroken I was using and here I was hoping you could answer one last question.........is the wetek reasonably fast? What I really want is a decent stable one box solution that allows me to watch and record tv, stream media from a nas and from the interwebisphere and is reasonably perky and can be modified and updated easily..........all at a fair price........not a lot to ask for really,

                  Once again thanks

Good thing is that WeTek is not like many china android tv devices which come usually with default ugly interface. I think the best what you can do is to read also review done by CNX at http://www.cnx-software.com/2014/08/...lite-receiver/ . Their WeTek Launcher is nice designed for TV experience but also very fast with access to main device functions under one click like WeTek Theater (DVB App), WeCloud Antenna (Internet TV player), Kodi/XBMC, Internet Browser, Folders, Network settings and so on.

For many users most important thing is support, and as this company have office in Europe, it is quite easy to reach them for any kind of issues or service.

Nce feature as well as part of WeTek OS (WeTek Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2) is WeCloud storage, which allow you to backup and restore user configurations, such as Channel list and other settings, so flashing is very easy and switching between many ROM's such as CM, AOKP, OMNI, Parandroid etc.

I tryed also all Android ROM's provided by Christian Troy, and for example all of them run so fast, nice and smooth. There is also both recoveries available as ClockWorkMOD (CWM) and TWRP.

I read at new CNX article about WeTek Play published yesterday in comments, that WeTek Play will have official support from OpenELEC, so this tells everything.

BTW. While I was writting new post, I received new OTA update of WeTek OS v1.1, and it works directly updating SW of device from WeTek OTA app.

I was going to say just that.

I also receive an OTA update and it went smooth, no problems. I noticed a new service available the IPTV thrown the WeCloud. It seems that they provide a list of channels for the Wetek owners. Just having OTA updates already even before the devices it the market says a great deal on how support will be. There are several brands on the market, for a few months now, that promise OTA but it never comes.
Yesterday tested the OpenElect build, first time that a run an Linux flavor on arm, it was quite enjoyable. Fast, stable and for media center it's definitely the best solution.

Many thanks to both of you for the replies and the updates, I sent an email to wetek yesterday evening and impressively received a response this morning first thing. Whilst they responded to all of my questions there was a couple of responses that left me a wee bit confused. So hoping anyone who has one of these can help me out as wetek were unable to answer.........has either of these got a twin tuner.........I know if channels share the same mux you can watch one and record another but what I need is the ability to record one and watch any other freeview channel or if need be freesat channel if I got the sat version. The other thing they were unable to answer was......if I am recording a tv program can I use xbmc and stream a movie or whatever whilst in kodi...............can anyone advise

                        Thanks

                          Hi aardvark,

I will try to test this for you:

"if I am recording a tv program can I use xbmc and stream a movie or whatever whilst in kodi"

                            Tested like this:

                            1. Opened WeTek Theater
                            2. Started recording of one channel
                            3. Pressed Home button at RCU, it returned me to WeTek Launcher
                            4. I saw that recording stop as led on USB Memory stick stop blinking

Hi droidelec, many thanks for testing that out for me I really appreciate the effort and response. Sadly this wont do what I would like it to do as it would not be the one box solution that I am looking for..........an android box with twin tuners that allows for the facility to record whilst watching another and the option to dip into kodi whilst recording tv...............if anyone knows of such a thing please let me know..........and if there is not such a thing,,,,,someone should come up with a one box solution

                                many many thanks
