Ok, so by "he", you were referring to someone not in this thread or even anyone on this forum. Well that was clear.

perhaps i could have been clearer..."he" was BobShanghai who said "Yes, the FOTA APP shows that there is an update available (450megs) and would like me to download it." a few posts back

NEW - Finless 2.0a ROM for the Minix X8/X8-H

Hello Everybody and thanks for your post, they are more useful for me!

Please, excuse me for my horrible english...

I don't understand anything, I have installed Finless 2.0a Rom, (it works great thanks for Finless), then if out in a future an official Minix Firmware 3.0. Can I actualize by OTA?, no?.

I Imagine FOTA/OTA is in the button "System Update" in settings of Minix Launcher...

I am going to look into why the FOTA is saying there is an update.
It does not have this problem on my X8 Plus ROM.
It is also not doing this on my upcoming X6 ROM.

In fact how the FOTA updater checks is in build.prop at the end

So what is not making sense is if the stock ROM does not say there is an update and mine does, then something is strange!

Again I will look into it. The bottom line is the new FOTA can be used on my ROM based on build.prop and if it does an assertion check for device (which means you must use the Minix build.prop and not my Nexus one.

Anyway I will see whats up later this week.

CONFIRMED! YES there is new firmware already! 12/24

OK I have confirmed this.
The reason your getting a notice that new firmware is available on my 2.0a ROM is because there is new firmware! If you were on the stock ROM you would get the same message!

Strange Minix did not make a new post about this in the Minix forums. But if you poke around in there, it is talked about by users.

Bottom line the new firmware is:
KOT49H.20141224

1. Optimize some functions of system
2. Fix some bugs

(Unfortunately that is all the change log says )


So new firmware 12/24 date!



I just tested this FOTA update coming from my 2.0a ROM. It will not work. The recovery either TWRP or the stock wont find the update on internal SDcard. I am not sure why. I will fix it next time.


I will make a 12/24 Stock ROM flashable ZIP download for you all so you can update to stock 12/24 ROM without FOTA if you like. I will remove the assertion check so it can be flashed with my TWRP or a basic recovery on SDcard.

Stay tuned for that.

This is strange im on the stock rom Official "002" firmware KOT49H.20141128 & its says No update!!
I did root the rom with your root zip could this be why it says my system is up to date
iv got the minix x8h

Not sure but I will flash 11/28 and see. For sure it tells you there is an update on my ROM and build.prop is the same as 11/28.

Arr i think i may of found the problem im on 002 stock firmware, from what i can make out i need to be on 002a to be able to OTA to 002b update..So im now downloading 002a to be able to update to the new firmware witch i guess is oo2b...Minix sure dont make there OTA easy do they what a co** up

Iv downloaded the 002a update to a usb stick, 1hour 35 mins to download (dont ask about the slow speed)
installed the oo2a update fine. Now its found the OTA update a 450MB file so thats another 1hour 35 mins to that downloads lets hope it installs ater all this..

Minix seem to have made many confusions by adding a new "FOTA" app and not removing the original "OTA" updater in 002a firmware. So, currently there are two updaters in the firmware. Original one, which checks the old update server (not working) and the new one which was added in 002a firmware, which works. This is a bit silly! (edit. Maybe there is a reason for leaving both, but it is causing a lot of people to get upset)

Your rooted so use ES File Explorer and make sure to enable root browser and mount system as RW.
Then go into /system/app and remove that APK.

Yes, that is a perfectly good reason!

I was sort of meaning the OTA part of the old updater, not the other parts of it. I wondered if they should be removing the old OTA section if it serves no purpose now.
