I bought it as a gift for a family member for Christmas but at the moment it is not functioning well enough to be given as a gift imo. The wifi keeps playing up, one minute it is fine the next it will not function at all. I was trying to use XBMC Frodo (latest) and although some add-ons would work many would not.

Does anyone know of any flashable roms for this version?
Also if not does anyone know how I can change the loader/gui?
Since this new one has a pretty crap mainscreen..

Any help would be much appreciated.
(considering getting rid of this and getting a minix if this is too much hassle.)
you need the rikomagic mk802III rom. it works for the new mk808b models.
there are other roms that work too, minix mk808b cfw by lewy. you will have to play around to find the one you like best. the mk808b model works best on a 720p kernel with 1080p emulation. be sure to load the correct kernel. you will need a rom flash tool like rockchip batch tool and drivers for your mk808b to be recognized by your pc. also, to put the device into flash mode, get a paperclip and poke the reset button opposite to the little blue light. watch some mk808 model flashing guides on youtube.

I tried to be very carefull by changing the build.prop to a "Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1". Till now, everything is working fine. Antutu and CPU-Z are showing the right internal hardware parts but GT-P5100 as the model.

If anyone is interested, here is the build-file (modified version of build.prop from finless 1.7 for mk808b original with 720p kernel)

    build_finless17_mk808b_orig_720p_gtp5100.zip

To resolve the problem with the keyboard layout (i got us english but wanted a german one with umlauts) I simply installed external keyboard helper pro.

But there's still the problem with zooming (in/out, pinch-to-zoom). finless 1.7 (android 4.1.1) is capable of zooming per mouse and I have activated that, but how do I have to configure the k400r/external keyboard helper to simulate a mouse-wheel-scroll or that function which triggers zooming? does anybody know?

Oh, btw: 720p kernel is much faster. I compared antutu results and 1080p has been 41 percent slower in 2D graphical benches than 720p kernel. It is also easy to recognize in general for me everywhere (browsing, teamviewer etc.). I will keep 720p kernel installed. It's sharp enough on my LED-TV.

Don't change one file to the other one... MK808 is not a tablet. The build.prop has parameters like screenrotation, power off screen and lots of important things.

You must choose exactly what are you doing step by step.

    Hello again,

meanwhile I flashed Finless ROM 1.7 with 1080p kernel and WLAN works fine now. Looks like version 2.1 is broken or at least not as compatible in general. But I am trying the 720p kernel tonight. Teamviewer is awfully slow for example in 1080p. Perhaps 720p is sharp enough (especially for office) - I will try and figure out. In the end it's quite obvious that it's not recommended to use the 1080p kernel with this chip. It was designed to work with resolutions like 480p. 1080p is 5.4 times more than 800 x 480 pixel (my galaxy s2). 720p is only 2.4 times more. By the way, antutu benchmark with finless 1.7 and 1080p kernel resulted in 11.000 points! :-) And CPU-Z shows 2 x 1000 mhz as core frequency.

I tried xda's market helper, works fine. But I am not really pleased with the browser screen resolution. I cannot zoom with my k400r, only double-click and change a little bit of zoom level - not enough. That's a problem with all browsers I tried (google, chrome, firefox, dolphin). So, I will try to find a hardware device (tablet) with similar cpu power of the mk808b and change the build.prop (I don't remember the exact name of the file, but remember reading of it) to that. I think, the Galaxy S2 is not a good choice for spoofing because of the smaller screen resolution. Perhaps, if installing/running apps "think", there's a device with native 720p resolution, than they will optimize their screen output to that (browsers for example).

Is there any possibility to get original german keyboard layout for the k400r? Or can I create it myself? An ist there any tool to fake multitouch gestures with this touchpad. It is able to, but only in Windows 8. But perhaps it's possible in Android by pressing CTRL while tapping or something like that?

It is not a problem with the flash tool, just with cwm.

That's a good hint, thanks! :-) I will try if there's no other chance to get 1080p resolution. Is there anything to be aware of if I am flashing Finless 1.7 right over the 2.1? I do not have more experience in flashing smartphones or android devices in general than that one time tonight. I read about, that cwm-backups can only be reinstalled within the same android version for example. Is that a problem with the flash-tool too (the one within the finless 2.1 rom)?

Reinstall your stock firmware, root it and use market helper app from the xda forums to enable all unsupported apps.
Or you can try a Android 4.1 rom.

So ... I have tested pretty much.

With the original stock ROM "everything" worked fine. WLAN was amazingly fast (full 16kbit), but installing Playstore-Apps was partially impossible due to the unknown device.

I made a backup using an update.zip file. That worked fine obviously. I haven't tested re-flashing yet. I got the following files with this backup:

    boot.img (16 mb)
    data.img (1.5 gb)
    kernel.img (16 mb)
    misc.img (4 mb)
    recovery.img (16 mb)
    system.img (1.0 gb)

Then I followed Finless' readme step by step and installed his 2.1 ROM for the B-model with 1080p kernel. That worked fine too, but wifi is somehow broken. I can see networks around me, but only a few and connecting to my router is not possible anymore. At first it says "excellent" and while trying to connect "not in range".

I screenshoted the original stock rom system infos:

    Android version:
    4.2.2

    Kernel version:
    3.0.36+
    rjh_V_402j2 #62
    Mon Jun 17 10:41:13 CST 2013

    Build number:
    mk808b_v405j2
    2013-06-17 10:41:36

I don't know what to do. The original ROM is useless because of Playstore limitations (device incompatible to some/many apps). The 2.1 ROM doesn't work (I need WiFi). Should I try 2.1 with 720p kernel. Or should I try 1.7 with 1080p kernel? Or should I try a clone ROM and which one?

    Thanks for your help!

    -edit-

Oh, and I tried to tether my WLAN from my Galaxy S2 phone over bluetooth. The pairing worked, the connection sharing too, but there was still no internet at the mk808b.

Thank you for your help! :-)

I did not had time for testing the stick but I am going to this evening or tomorrow. I am very eager to! :-)

I am going to use the shipped power supply with 2A.

Can anyone tell me the purpose of the silver paper I had removed and attached back again. Is it some sort of electronic/magnetic shield? I am a bit worried about that one because it's not as flat as it has been in original state and perhaps a little bit out of place (as you can see at my photo) too.

I don't now if I am going to use 720p or 1080p kernel yet. I will figure that out, depending on performance.

    @robert

*If you have bad wifi signal check the signal pins under the mobo.
I have not tested yet, but in case: I don't know, what you exactly mean by that. Is there anything blinking. Do I have to watch that with an opened/disassembled mk808b?

I just got 7pcs MK808, you can see the new antenna and also the MEDIATEK WiFi chip.

Finless ROM will not work, I think he still did not work over this version:

I just uploaded ZERO Devices Z2C A2 firmware and it was ok:

If you don't like the new launcher you can flash Z2C A2 firmware, at least until Bob make a new ROM for this MEDIATEK chipset.

I was hoping that flashing would resolve WiFi problem (looses DNS and won't connect to anything)
Strange... I flashed hundreds and just got error one time, because my mistake, I tried to flash ZERO Devices Z4C firmware (RK3188) on to a RK3066 device.

You also must to look at the Wifi/BT chipset, if Mediatek I think Finless ROM will not work. It can stuck on the Boot logo or even work but without Wifi/BT

Maybe you can show a screen capture here and look

This one is MEDIATEK WiFi solution, but I got some RT chipset too and they mount same antenna. Factory is going to change MEDIATEK to RT series again. MK908 never changed.

Also as I said before, now all of them comes with a new launcher, a rubbish launcher in my oppinion. This is why I recommend to flash ZERO Devices firmware or Finless if available.
