I have always used CWM (generally not with this device) to create Nandroid backups.

I understand if I replace the recovery with CWM and use the backup, I will not be able to use the update.img flash technique to load the custom ROM? is this correct?

Also, with my Galaxy s2, once you went to version 4.2.2 or above, you could not use CWM to flashback to version 4.1 or earlier. You would have to reflash an earlier version of CWM, then reload recovery without booting ROM, flash earlier Kernel, then the older ROM to downgrade.

I'm guessing I would need to do a similar process with this device if I use CWM.

Is there a straightforward method to make a full flashable backup of my current ROM without using CWM?
I doubt I will be able to get a copy of the ROM from the manufacturer, although looking at the kernel and ROM on my device, the version and description is very very similar to that oft he 4.2.2 that comes on the Rikomagic 802iiis..

    thanks,

    Hey,

Can you help me identify my board? pic is in the post 2 above.

it has the AP6xxx wifi and BT chipset, but the board configuration differs from the others. Will the Finless 1.7 for the AP6xxx chipset work with this? Or is there another way I can determine which Roms will work with my board.
It would be nice if I can assume all ROMs for the AP6 chipset and RK3066 will work

    cheers

Thanks, I should have looked through the entire thread, do you or anyone know how to completely disassemble it, because I don't want to break anything.

It uses the single AP6xx wifi Bluetooth chip (not the mediatek ones), but it doesn't look the same as the other devices people have listed. The circuit board configuration is a bit different. I have attached the pictures below.

It came with 4.2.2 installed. I 'think' it has root privaleges already, as I installed USB OTG helper which flagged 'root access granted'.

My issue is that it runs rather slow, even when doing basic stuff. Wifi is not fantastic, although does work ok. Streaming from BBC Iplayer doesnt work well.

It appears to support 1080P screen resolutions ok, although trying to play media at 1080P doesnt work well. the USB OTG port doesnt seem to support any of my HDD etc, they mount are recognised them immediately unmount themselves.

I'd like to try a different ROM, but not sure which will work. Advice would be great as it looks different to the other models pictures so far!

    Clone or not?

Hey everyone, I'm new here and just recently bought an MK808B from one of the sellers on Amazon and was checking which one was mine but it didn't look similar to the OP's pictures, can anyone please check which ROM I should use for mine?

    Dumping Clone ROM

First of all, thank you all for your prompt reply.
As the distributor won't be able to send me the official ROM, I tried to dump the ROM with ADB.
I partially managed it, but to avoid cross-posting, I will be posting in the http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...sing-ADB-guide thread.
    Thank you again everybody

The device was working nicely (Antutu Benchmark of 11495 and wi-fi stable and quite fast) but I wanted to try some custom roms and try to cook one by myself. So i decided to make a backup with CWM Recovery (http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...rk3066-devices), due to many problems I read about finding original ROMs. And here the troubles began.
My device seems to be a mixed of some new ones (the blue version with the AP6210 and R-BOX logo but CPU Identifier report it as an MK809II).
So I'm attaching picture of the device and screenshots, just to ask you which model is for you and which version of CWM-based Recovery images for RK3066 devices (http://androtab.info/clockworkmod/rockchip/rk3066/) should I downlaod and use.
Thank you very much for your clarifications.
    i believe this one http://www.rikomagic.com/en/download/download_18_1.html
i good for u also.i used the first one the rmk version.the only differenve between our devices is memory chip and cooler.not a big one.try and see.then try the second one and post here the results.

    dguzz... welcome to the forum

The AP6210 chipset has both WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities in it... so I'd be surprised if yours doesn't have a working bluetooth and they just didn't enable it in the software/kernel .... that is just a guess of course.

Look at my post above ( #150 ) where I reposted pics that another user had provided... you'll see a device that looks a lot like yours with minor differences on the USB and other connectors.

My own was sold as a MK808B and was branded a R-BOX as well... mine is identical to the pics I reposted with the exception of the memory is by another company ( Toshiba )

Contact the place you bought the device from and request a link to your ROM so you can have a backup. Then consider flashing one of the ROM's that been mentioned that does include BT with it...

I used the ROM I mentioned in post #150 ( which is branded as a R-BOX rom ) as well as this one ( branded as a Rikomagic ) on this webpage http://blog.w2comp.com/#!/2013/12/15...-firmware.html

giannisgr41 also posted links to some ROM's that worked on his device ... so they are also worth trying out.

It would certainly be interesting to see if these ROM's which do have BT... end up providing you with it on your device which was suppose to not have it

Suitable for clone - Imito MX1_MX2 Finless 2.0 JB 4.2.2 ROM., Only kernel bad.
Of course people can ask Bob ( Finless ) if he will work on another ROM for different device... If he doesn't have that model of device on hand to test, he would then need to have someone else test the changes he makes... Of course, we can't assume he will do it... he is doing what he can where he can but he can't do it all.
