More a fiddle with Tronsmart Vega S95 Telos.

Still get the odd first power on lockup, off and on again no problem.
Can take a 10~20 second to connect to network
    No other major hassles noticed.

Mentioned in a previous post I was not to happy with heat sink arrangement, did a bit of a quick and dirty.
Having no problems, thought do it cant hurt.
Would get warm to touch, expected really with no vents and a lack of circulation.

Original heat sink attached to Tin Lid

Tin Lid with 1 MM thermal pad found on inside

Removed Tin Lid covering CPU/Ram, also removed Heat sink from Tin Lid.
Heat sink now sits directly on top of CPU with the small 1 MM thick thermal pad found on the inside of the Tin Lid (clears all bits on PCB)
Attached the Tin Lid to the inside of the Tronsmart top
with stick pad left over from original Heat Sink, mounted lid inline with heat sink.
As the heat sink now only sits on CPU with the 1 MM thermal pad (not much stick) it can move if bumped,
then placed a 3~4 mm thick thermal pad
on the top of the heat sink to force it against tin lid. All sandwiched together not to tight no Bow noticed in PCB when remounting PCB to Lid.

I was going to use some alloy plate in the top of the box, I think that would mess up the WIFI

Will monitor if i notice anything.
    Cheers

Hello. I have to agree with complains. Two different TV and enabling HDMI CEC will switch language to Chineese. Remote is almost unresponsive. Sometimes it has lags, other time it seems some remote commands are totally lost. In other cases it buffers them so two tries are ignored but third try will make all of them so very very badly controlled. Right now using mobile app to control device what works without problem.
I also spotted same hickups when HDMI passthrough is enabled with intermittent audio. Also some HD audio is detected by receiver but other one which is almost the same but muxed in other file, receiver can't detect so no sound (DTS-HD MA 7.1 as an example). Disabling passthrough will play audio correctly.
So the smallest problem on device is missing rubber legs from bottom for better stability.
      Hopefully some can be fixed.
      Thanks for support

Thanks for the feedback. can you take a photo for the HDMI CEC problem , or a video to demo is better. thanks for your time, we don't copy the problem here with our TV.

The infrared remote control is not as good as the air mouse. i prefer the air mouse but i will also report to them, and check how they can do.

for the passthrough problem, i am a little confused about your questions, can you explain better? the most important,if you can , show me your test video, so we can check the problem locally.

      thanks

@ bluesmanuk. Thank-you for the AC wifi (80Mhz) tip. It does make a vast difference. I had a chance to test it out on a high speed North Americian connection. Sweet 100 Mbps connection. Wifi N speed tested at 20- 40 Mbps. Wifi AC tested about 90 Mbps.
        .
        geekbuying. Thank-you for showing support.
I do have questions to forward (Not surprisingly so).
        1. Error from Chrome/Google/ Playstore- various warnings of "you may be hacked" with finally warning about "wrong Date and Time".
We set the Vega to EST. and to read Date and time from router. Android settings will keep the new EST. yet Date and Time will revert back to Dec 31 2014 (7:00 P.M)on shutdown /reboot, but may not revert on every reboot! Re-selecting acquire Date and Time from router will not succeed most attempts and Date/Time must be entered manually.
        2. Will there, can there be an option to turn off IPv6?
        3. We installed PureVpn (not related to above problem). The Vega /Android 5.1(?) will repeatedly deselect UDP and favour TCP when establishing connections. Their(Friends) Android 4.2(?) box keeps the selected UDP settings in PureVpn application.
        4. I forget!!
        .
        Pros
        10 sec boot time!
Turn on Vega and -T.V. also turns on (CEC?)
        Handles ram/apps better!

Owing to the overall quality of the box, and the memory used, it is my belief that is the best buy for buck as for a good Android TV box, with the new S905 processor.

The main reason I bought this device is because of the sata connector, because I have 3TB hard drive available for it, however I reckon this box uses 32 Bit Android system over a 64 bit CPU, I guess it must have the 2TB limit of the MBR system, or is it compatible with the GPT?

How can I copy afterwards new content to the Hard Disk without having to make direct connect to a PC motherboard.

Kokobsb read post #54 he seems to have figured it out, although it would depend if your using optical cable to connect or not worth a shot

i tried the way it is explained in post 54 that way if you disable pass-through you will not get 5.1 with spdif. there is definitely a problem with spdif pass-through

It's quite disapointing to see that after so many years of new chipsets and development we still cannot have a box that can playback HD with audio passthru.. We have 4k playback, but not proper HD playback

I'm fairly certain that I have a hardware fault and will be taking it apart later to see if I can spot anything.
I have just received my Tronsmart and my rear USB works, in fact it's connected to a air mouse, everything ok here

All the videos with AC3 audio have no sound. Do I need to install a separate Codec ? Thanks

The vega s95 can passthrough HD audio, like dolby true hd and dts-hd without problem with vidon xbmc, however, the amlogic has a little problem with passthrough dts/dolby,they are working on a fix.

you should use the vidon xbmc.

I think it's with only dts 5.1pass through with spdif the clicking problem .tronsmart is aware of it .vidon for sure and I think it's an amlogic problem.thanks .I use vidon .eheheh

Yes you have it pretty much.
                                This from WIKI

S/PDIF is based on the professional
AES3 interconnect standard.[1] S/PDIF can carry two channels of uncompressed PCM audioor compressed 5.1/7.1 surround sound (such as DTS audio codec); it cannot support lossless formats (such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio) which require greater bandwidth like that available with HDMI or DisplayPort.
