I have had an RK3229-based Scishion V88 for a couple of days. These are my observations so far.
General remarks
- It's about twice the size (in volume) of other Chinese TV boxes I have. Otherwise, build quality appears adequate
PROS
- The hardware is good value and powerful enough for what I wanted - retro emulation, SNES, older MAME, Megadrive games etc
- All hardware features appear to work adequately, as tested so far, WiFi, USB, card slot etc. Have not tested LAN, SPDIF yet
- It recognised my Chinese PS3 clone gamepad instantly, unlike my Amlogic S905 box which takes some fiddling
CONS
- SuperSU is installed but there are "No apps configured" and root checker says it is not rooted!
- It has a full size SD card slot which is very shallow, cards protrude from it a lot which makes it easy to remove them, but unsightly to leave in permanently
- It has Android 5.1 but is not compatible (or is not working for some bizarre reason) with the latest versions of some emulators. I had to install older versions of MD.EMU and SNES 9x EX for them to work. Maybe it is using some out-dated protocols/drivers of some kind? The latest versions of said emulators just show a black screen as soon as you open them (before you even get to the point of choosing a game). I have no idea why this is but they appear to be kind of working even though you cannot see them.
- On a friends TV, it was not possible to scale the screen area down enough to fit on his Sony Bravia KDL-32BX300, so the edges are not shown. This might just be some weird HDMI compatibility with that model TV, the problem does not occur with my Samsung TV, on which I can scale it down to a small area.Last edited by MetalSlugger; 11 November 2016, 18:51.

Also Just got this box. Seems built OK (for the price). Compared to my MXQ 4K (with stock firmware) it is stable.
Noticed that CPU temperature does not rise so high as on the MXQ on which I've installed a much bigger heat sink.
Anyone has an idea whether this is probably the reason that V88 is slower (some kernel change) than MXQ 4K?

Either faulty or working,
slow or fast,
So, if a RAM chip is not within specifications, the system will likely hang.
If we are speaking about eMMC, the write rate can be slow, but it affects only the write process.
Anyway, I will try to run Antutu and see what are the results compared to MXQ.

Just got my V88 box. It was already running the latest firmware. Obviously, my first action was to get SSH on it and check for spyware. Enabled dev mode, allowed 3-rd party apps, placed SSHDroid APK on SD card, installed, got it working.
Guess what? Started checking the running processes, found something that I did not like - "com.adups.fota". Googled it and looks like this is one of these things
Will continue searching this device for more funny preinstalled apps...

I got a fake MXQ Pro 4K , what was in fact a V88 with MXQ printing an modded V88 firmware with a MXQ Pro shell.
I flashed this with your image an after that the update. And with succes.
Before the flashing I had occaisional system restarts, I hoped this would be solved with the new image. But the system still restarts sometimes.
Thank you for posting your image file.
