Found FIX FOR KODI(16.1) CRASHES & BUFFERING FIX!

    KODI(16.1) CRASHES:
It seems that it is a fairly common issue with Kodi on Android 6 devices.
I had heard of this fix but felt it worthy of a share.
In settings - video - acceleration - turn off AMCODEC
Quit KODI to save the setting, then open and see if it fixes your problem; for me it did.
(If problem persists do the same for the third codec.)

    BUFFERING FIX:

All I did today was increase Video Cache Size and it fixed the problem, but might want to erase cache once in a while too.

But then there is no video excel and decoding?
Many devices now mk902ii/Shield/Mk68 /Ugoos/neox5/minix5 (yes they still work lol) mk80 no it doesnt work lol.

I didnt say that it was perfect fix. I am just a random dude; NOVICE android box user that googled how to stop KODI 16.1 from crashing (new 17 when you update (.4 i think) I read works perfect but dont know how to install builds so i uninstalled it).
Found those tweeks thats fixed the problem I was having and wanted to share.
I primarily use KODI for exodus and with those, 1080 and 720 videos play smooth and look good, thats all I wanted.
(You will experience some lagging if you do however turn off MediaCodec aswell, so keep it checked.)

Quite agree this is NOT an acceptable fix!

Be prepared for it not to be fixed.

I already know that... Team Kodi, have already made it known that all official Amlogic (CODEC), stuff got dropped post Jarvis. Since it was in their words a kinda kludge to start with. A kludge that seems to no longer be needed on most Android devices.
But the problem however remains that the AMCODEC will still be required in order to enable full hardware acceleration, and without it the Box is even more useless then mine with a broken Radio in it.

Just, one more reason for anyone contemplating such a Box, to reconsider the Shield TV IMHO....

                  As understood from this Thread.

                  * It should be noted that ONLY the Android port of the AMCODEC, got dropped. AFAIK the Linux port is still a-go.
So by that, I guess OpenELEC should still be safe.

                    Not necessarily.

AMLogic can change the way they approach the API such that no special codec is required.
Development of Mediacodec over time may also include changes to allow hardware acceleration.

With the SOC's in these boxes also becoming more powerful, what once could only be delivered via hardware acceleration can now be delivered through software.

So there are a few possibilities yet.

Its actually a smart move by Kodi. Now box makers have to do Thier job (keep in mind this has always been the sore point with kodi devs) Meet the Android API and your box will work that it.not complicated. Box makers now have to do the work on thier end to make video code meet the Api for the os.
Ya we know thats another disaster coming lol.... China manufacturing minds cant comprehend actually doing the work even more so having to pay for someones code to make sound video work together.... Again it has NOTHING to do with kodi and Everything to do with costs and profits. So pick the supported devices that have already proved that method works 😜

I'ma gonna assume that 9122008 is what passes as a Build Number, and not a Date Code (Stamp).
As you can easily check that Number from the Update App. Now that would be simple enough to look that up as I'm posting this.
Save for the fact that I'm unable to actually use my Box. BROKEN Wi-Fi & Bluetooth.
So Its sitting in its Box collecting dust.
