Then remember to make a backup BEFORE whenever you start to feel the need to "TRY DIFFERENT THINGS".

Just one question - must the SD card be exactly 4Gb? I only have a 16Gb SD card. Is it OK to use this?

I think it works, it will make your 16Gb card a 4gb card (since it is an sdcard image of a 4gb version). After restoring your box, just use the Easeus Partition Manager to delete the 4gb partition and make it 16gb again.

        Trying it now

Here is another question - once I have restored my MX2 clone & set it up how I want it to be - how can I make a similar image to the one that I am using now - so that this new image I made can be used on many other MX2 clones?

Only way that I know is to make a backup (either with cwm or online nandroid backup) and boot with CWM and restore.

To make this image I used official rom from Matricom.

            OK - thanks

I have flashed MATRICOM_MX2_115_FULL_AUG_09_2013.imgc, but see that there is no XBMC installed.

What one do you suggest? With Hardware acceleration??

            Thanks

P.S. Does the Android Gadgets ROM have more apps installed?

Matricom did not include it in the base rom, you can install it:

You can choose from OTA Update to update with Matricom version of XBMC or you can download from AndroidGadget. Both are hardware accelerated.

I use the AndroidGadget version. In my opinion this has more repos.

G02REF is unknown to me. Anyone with sure knowledge may post to clarify.

DroidTV MX (=g18ref) is the same as Matricom G-Box Midnight MX2 (=mx2ref).
Generic MX Media box or Android TV Box AML8723MX 8GB is the same as above g18ref.
They all have the same layout board and printed on board HD18 v2.2 and so on.

Prometheus is also unknown to me. Anyone with sure knowledge may post to clarify.

The looks of this box is this:

Hey Benni - everything worked 100%. Took about 10 minutes to burn the image onto my 16Gb SD card - you are correct - it was partitioned as a 4Gb card (easily fixed after).

I then installed the Android Gadget XBMC hardware Accelerated (xbmcapp-armeabi-DroidTV-050713.apk) which is nothing short of amazing! Wow - it'll take a long time to work my way through this.

One thing that immediately strikes me about my Midnight MX2 clone is just how everything works! I also have a Minix X7 & this baby puts it to shame - end of! Streaming videos on XBMC is "gob smacking"

I am one very happy bunny!

Glad to know. Been there, done that, felt the joy

It's ROOTED now. Make a backup with this when you have set it up as needed:

You can restore with the CWM.

Obackup looks very nice - does it have to have CWM installed?

I did manage to get my SD card to boot into CWM yesterday, but cannot do it today!

For how long do you have to hold down the reset button, when you turn on the MX2?

I keep booting into the default recovery

So, now I've ordered my box...
We will see, when it will arrive at me...

                          At that moment some questions:

                          2. Is there any method to dump the Stock-ROM (before using CWM)
                          3. Exist any comfortable Flashing - Tool (probably not, otherwise the SD-way would not be necessary )?
                          4. Existing other interesting Images than the MATRICOM_MX2_115?

And BTW: why call the ClockWorkMod "ClockWork"?

After crearting and using the special sdcard you need to format the sdcard. Not quick format but Full Format. Special sdcard image modifies it in a special way that prevents booting into cwm, and only way to get rid of it is full format.

                                1) It is rooted because of the Matricom rom.

                                2) Unless you are rooted, NO.

                                3) The sdcard way is the most comfortable way. You can lay down during the process to avoid any tension to your muscles and bones.

                                4) YES. Check AndroidGadget rom on their web page.
