    Force Closing Apps

Afher flashing the ROM then flashing root I have some apps that I was previously able to use that are incompatible with this device now on the play store. Subsequently, if I side load the apps with Titanium Backup they force close. I get same results from both Rabid ROM and ROM in OP. My question is: Could this be a result of...

1- something missing in both ROM zips
    2- a build.prop change
    3- improper recovery
4- something with the Root zip (I swear it wiped my external after one of the flashes)

I will test around and see if I can't resolve this one. In the mean time I was hoping someone more experienced may be able to shed some light on the issue. Thank you!

I haven't looked at Rabid1's ROM, but here are answers to your questions as they pertain to the files that I posted:

      1. Possibly. Both ROMs are based on a system dump from my own device. I think everything is there, but I can't promise I didn't remove something before dumping the ROM. I do know that I've had alot of incompatible apps in play store since day 1 of unboxing my tablet. Knowing Nextbook, it's possible that something changed at some point in the factory ROM.

      2. I believe my ROM contains a purely stock build.prop file. See notes in answer 1 above though.

      3. The only change to my modified 3e recovery was swapping out the key for signature verification. My stock ROM also doesn't flash the modified recovery. I thought it would be better for most people to keep the stock recovery on their device and use the modified recovery from SD card.

      4. My root package doesn't do anything but put su in /system/xbin , set permissions for /system/app and /system/xbin/su , then symlink /system/xbin/su to /system/bin/su .

I'll take a look at Rabid1's ROM to see what changes he made.

Also, I'm planning to release an updated stock ROM that does flash the stock recovery, because I plan to release custom ROMs that flash CWM / TWRP in the future.

Also, I plan to release a modified stock ROM soon that will include build.prop changes for increased market compatibility, along with other modifications.

If you have any suggested changes for either the stock ROM or a modified ROM, share you thoughts here in the thread.

        Awesome

Thanks for the quick reply! I will just have to wait for your new releases. In the meantime I'll just keep fooling around with it. I'm thinking of copying over some files from my wife's virgin NX008HD8G and see if that resolves anything.

As for requests I would like to add that the speaker totally sucks on this tablet so volume amplifying mods if possible would be great. At minimum some built in equalizer for media would work. Regardless, thanks for your contributions and time!

Let me know if you find any differences between your wife's tab and your own. Any serious differences should be in the build.prop or system folder. I'm still waiting for Rabid1's ROM to download. I'll try to get some updates of some type out by next weekend. It'll depend on how much time I spend on development this week.

I agree regarding the speaker. The speaker on the Next8P12 is MUCH better. Unfortunately, I'm afraid any volume mods would blow the tiny little speaker in the Next8HD8G. I use mine a lot for Pandora and decided to buy a cheap pair of powered speakers to use with it. Headphones also work great with it.

Check ro.build.description and ro.build.fingerprint in the build.prop on your wife's tablet. ro.build.fingerprint is what is checked for market compatibility. Let me know what you find. Also let me know if the apps that don't work on your tablet do work on hers.

Any future non-stock ROMS I release will report our tablets as either a Nexus or Samsung device. I'm not sure which would be best yet.

              stock

Here is the stock build description and fingerprint. All I have done to my tablet is root it and used ES File Explorer to remove some system apps.

              Code:
              ro.build.description=NXM8000ND_WM-user 4.1.1 JRO03C eng.root.20130412.215449 release-keys
              ro.build.fingerprint=Nextbook/M8000ND/M8000ND:4.1.1/JRO03C/v009:user/release-keys
              Archos Gen9 A80S cm-11.0
              Kindle Fire 2 cm-11.0

                That matches my ROM.

                  Build.prop

Confirming that the build.prop was the culprit. I copied my wife's over then went to settings>apps>all>Google playstore delete cache and delete data. Reboot and enjoy no compatibility problems. The build.prop values match what is posted above. All is well now I will be awaiting future updates. If you need anything I'm willing to lend a hand.

Can you provide a copy of the build.prop from your wife's tablet? I'd like to see what was different.

There were no changes to the build.prop in my image. It's identical except for the build date and the description header. Neither affects compatibility.

With the solution 3rd reported my guess is it was just a cache issue.

Thats very possible. More likely clearing the data or the combination of both would have been the fix then because i tried deleting cache only and had no fix. So in the future I will do both.

I'll be releasing an updated stock ROM sometime this week with an install script that flashes the stock recovery (not the modified one) and also wipes and reformats system, cache and data.

This will be necessary in order to return to stock from any of my future ROMs, as I intend for my custom ROMS to wipe and reformat the partitions to EXT4 in order to provide CWM / TWRP support without modifying CWM / TWRP to support UBIFS partitions.

                            Stay tuned...

Can anyone confirm that HDMI out is working on my stock ROM? I think HDMI out is defective in my tablet. I need to rule out the possibility of a software issue. If it is a hardware issue, I should be able to exchange the tablet at Wal Mart.
