root question?
I bought from Walmart the nx008hd8g tablet. If I download the root package zip file to my external SD card and reboot by power and volume button. Run this zip file. Does that root the device? Is their anything else I would need to do or is that it. And is this right root file for this device. just want to make sure before I attempt it.

thanks but another question

As long as the uImage_recovery file is on the SD Card, the tablet will automatically launch it instead of the internal recovery, which will allow you to install the kyser_root.zip.Freaktab Rom Developer

July built ROM is different
Shaun,
The ROM I installed seems to be running fine, but I think it must be slightly different than what came installed on my tablet. I say this for a couple of reasons:
1) Previously, I had two Google applications (Google Keyboard and Google Earth) installed via Google Play on my tablet and they were the same versions that are available there now. My wife still has them installed on her tablet with a July build date, like mine. With your ROM installed both of them state that they are not compatible with my tablet. This points to, at minimum, a difference between the two build.prop files.
2) I tried installing older versions (from a few months ago) of both of these apps via apk download and neither of them will run on my tablet! BTW, both of them run fine on my rooted NEXT8P12!
I'm going to try to copy the build.prop file from my wife's tablet to mine to see if that will allow me to at least install the latest versions of these apps. If I can install them, I'll try running them.
If necessary, I could probably root my wife's tablet and dump the ROM for you, but I'm a little nervous about doing this after the experience rooting my tablet!
If someone else has one of these tablets with a July build date (YFG0713XXXXXX) and has rooted it successfully, maybe they could dump the ROM for you and you could compare them.
I'll keep you posted.Nextbook Premium 8 SE (Next8P12) - * ROOTED * (Sold on ****)

Reflashing your stock ROM...
Update: I reformatted the uSD card, copied the files to it again, and reflashed.
WiFi appears to be FUBAR. Is it just a coincidence?
Yet another update: Rebooted a couple of times and WiFi is working again. Looks like flaky hardware to me.
Final update: Same thing happened after I rooted the tablet. The problem appears to be linked to how you reboot after running the recovery. If I used the recovery reboot option, it comes up with WiFi disabled. If I reboot by powering off and then holding the power button until it starts up, WiFi works fine.
Is this a problem with the recovery? Might even be that way from the factory.
This is really the final update: I tried a reboot from ROM Toolbox and the WiFi came up disabled! Power button reboot brought it back. Does ROM Toolbox use the built-in recovery to reboot?Last edited by eegorr; 18 October 2013, 17:08.Nextbook Premium 8 SE (Next8P12) - * ROOTED * (Sold on ****)

Shaun,
The July built tablets are definitely different from yours.
There are several differences in the build.prop file (only showing keys from the newer tablet):
ro.build.dateand a couple of additional keys:
Fri Jun 21 16:45:04 CST 2013
ro.build.date.utc
1371804304
ro.build.description
NXM8000ND_WM-user 4.1.1 JRO03C eng.root.20130621.164209 release-keys
ro.build.version.incremental
eng.root.20130621.164209
ro.hardware.version (inserted after ro.hardware)-------------------------------------------------
1.0.0.0
ro.ota.version.id (inserted after ro.opengles.version)
V2.0.17.JRO03C.user.root.20130621
Note that there appears to be a bug in the build.prop installed with your ROM that was fixed in the later build. There are two keys with the same name and different data:
ro.product.cpu.abi2 (named "ro.product.cpu.abi" in my wife's build.prop)Both build.props have these exact duplicate keys:
areabi-v7a
ro.product.cpu.abi2
areabi
ro.statusbar.yearmonthdayweek- and -
true
ro.statusbar.yearmonthdayweek
true
ro.yifang.hotpointand the newer build.prop has the following duplicate keys inserted after "ro.usbstorage.maxfreq":
0
ro.yifang.hotpoint
0
ro.vendor.nameI attached a copy of the newer build.prop file to this post. Is this the first you have heard of a June build?
YFMID

Help needed
Ok, I rooted and it worked fine. Then I rebooted today and it hung on the hand screen with the little circle swirling and would not finish the boot. Then I reflashed using your recovery stock rom. Now wifi will not work or activate. Ok, I take that back. I flashed it twice and no dice. Then I did a power off and reboot the regular way and now it is working. Must be booting into safe mode when we use the power button and volume buttons to reset it. ??? weird

Did you root again?
BTW, I asked you before - what is the build date of your tablet, April or July?
Is anyone out there running a tablet with a build date in July who was able to simply root their tablet and not flash Shaun's stock ROM?Nextbook Premium 8 SE (Next8P12) - * ROOTED * (Sold on ****)

Rebooting to android is another matter... I usually use the normal reboot option from recovery after flashing... which has always booted fine...
I've personally experienced both the WiFi won't work and External SD card won't work at the same time, ONCE. In my case it seemed to be a bad flash. No matter what I tried or how many times I rebooted, the issues persisted. I reformatted my SD card, wiped everything from recovery, reflashed and the problems were resolved.Freaktab Rom Developer
