I'm having the same issue about not getting OTA updates. I'm plannig to flash the version that ale.mikheev uploaded, but I'm having some issues.
Could you please help me on what steps should I follow? The box already has adb enabled, and I'm able to detect it with adb devices, but Rk Batch tool doesnt detect it.

I have a MacOS machine, but have access to Windows and Linux VMs if necessary.

Unfortunately I could not. I just noticed that the boxes with x88mini.00.d32 firmware are able to get this update. mine is x88mini.00.d4. One guy posted the firmware x88mini.00.d32 around here, but I'm still afraid to install. So until now I only use netflix mobile and full of problems. I'm so sad albertopq hehe

First of all, I tell you that I did not know until now that there are many versions of X88mini. Mine is x88mini.00.d32. I did not know there was x88mini.00.d4.
It is everyone's choice whether or not to change the original firmware. But if you are willing to install it on x88mini.00.d32, then use the one posted by ale.mikheev
Use Windows 7 as far as possible. First install the drivers, then install Factory Tool v6, install the firmware. Do not beat the head with the Batch tool. Not suitable for this model.
Before doing so, make sure your device has problems with the Widevine module and you have L3 instead of L1. Use DRM Check to see this. If you have L1, then it's pointless to change the firmware unless Netflix works. If Netflix does not work even after resetting to factory settings and you have Widevine L1 then it means you have no other solution to this problem than with OTA 1.0.4. Only the factory is able to update widevine keys. Also, if DRM Check shows Widevine L3, then you will also need to do that OTA 1.0.4.

In other news, it is possible that OTA 1.0.4 is no longer available. I have experienced this in earlier versions, and it is not available anymore after a few days of publishing. Maybe I was lucky and I searched for this update as long as it was available. What surprised me was that there was no automatic notification that there was a new aversion available. I searched manually.

So as a conclusion .... use the firmware posted by ale.mikheev. Install the drivers, use the Factory tool v6. Here, before you start releasing the new firmware, you have two Update (which is selected default) and Restore options. The difference between the two is very high, namely:
The update only rewrites the partition with the operating system, ie System.img
Restore makes a pre-formatting of all memory, reshapes it, then writes all partitions boot.img, trust.img, restore.img, misc.img, kernel.img, system.img. You understand the idea .... it's all over. This is good and bad, but bad because if you had Widevine L1 and you chose the Restore option, then the widevine keys were deleted. Nobody and nothing but the factory and that OTA 1.0.4 will no longer be able to recover those keys. So before using Restore, make sure Widevine mode is L3, or L1, Netflix still does not work, even after resetting to factory settings. I hope you understand what I wanted to explain.

Just to clarify, I see Widevine L1 when I DRM check. Still, Netflix doesn't boot up (I've tried everything in this thread about it), Built-in chromecast is shown but casting doesnt' work, Amazon Prime video starts, but I cannot play any video. My goal is to fix all those 3 issues. As far as I understood, 1.0.4 can fix that, and in order to get that update (hopefully) I want to update the system partitiion to d32. May be the update doesn't work, but in worst case I'll be in the same situation that now (L1 and Netflix not working) so I'm going to get the chance.

Just one question, you mean FactoryTool 1.6, right?

Sorry i wrote from mind. Yes, factory tool 1.6.
If you succes flashing this with firmware, then your box
shood be d32 insteed d4. Netflix and amazon prime shood be fixed once you install OTA 1.0.4, but Chromecast function will never work on this box because this service need a diffrent certification. Its not widevine. Its Microsoft PlayReady witch is not installed on this box. Only MiBox 3 and Nvidoa shield have this cerification. Service appear enabled only because is integrated in Amdrood TV OS by default.

I managed to flash the firmware from ale.mikheev with FlashTool, but now it doesnt boot up , it gets stuck on the X88 logo with the interal led in red.

Any suggestions costinilie ?

Try again with Restore option.

I tried upgrade first and didn't work, so tried restore afterwards. Same result Do you know how to access to the recovery menu?

My box 00.d4, shows that it is L1 but netflix is only stuck in the logo. In fact you need to upgrade to version 1.0.4. I just could not believe that there was no original firmware anywhere. And since then started the assault ... I tried (and eventually succeeded) to put together an "original" firmware with different partitions received to those who backed up beforehand. When I succeeded in bringing my device to life, I found that there was also Widevine. And here I stopped. I quit trying to fix it, aware that I have no chance. Only the factory could repair my machine. And then, after a while, when I lost all hope ..... to separate OTA 1.0.4. Even now I can not believe what a fortune I was.

costinilie , don't worry at all. I was aware of the risk flashing it, but I had nothing to loose. This box is not useful for me if Netflix and Amazon don't work, so I prefer a bricked box trying to fix it, that a box unused.

Which one do you recommend to flash? Is there any big difference?

The one from 2017 is android 7 and 2018 is android 8. I recommend android 8. On my box work very good. But i buy this box for android tv experience. Normal android is useless for me.

Regarding the backup of my rom, I can do it. Just give me a hint of which software to use.
And this ROM you used to recover your box, is not ANDROID TV? Would it be a ROM mobile?
