      You snooze you lose
No strings to pull on this one even I have to wait, until it appears.

They do this just to get us all worked up, and then well who knows...

From my brief research, Playready is for Microsoft OS.. How does that figure into Android??

OTT is using multi-DRM solutions, usually depends on the device on which the content is being delivered.

Netflix: mostly Playready DRM (Silverlight/Playstation/Wii), some Widevine and some HTML5/EME (Safari/Chrome)
source: A brief history of Netflix streaming (http://blog.streamingmedia.com/w...)

Huluplus: some VOD assets are using Microsoft Playready and some Google/Widevine DRM
source: The State of MPEG-DASH Deployment

Comcast XFinity: both VOD and LIVE is delivered via Adobe Primetime DRM

As Theofilos Papapanagiotou says most OTT solutions, including Netflix use a multi-DRM approach.
              • PlayReady is the defacto standard for content protection, not because it is specified or because Microsoft bullies anyone, but just because it is invariably there on most devices and is easy to work with.
              • Widevine is available where PlayReady isn't, part of this is to do with the way Google does business.
              • Fairplay is how you do business on some Apple devices, particularly Safari and Apple TV.

Answer (1 of 5): OTT players take the multi-DRM approach to protecting streaming content. Their primary concern is maintaining device compatibility while protecting videos against piracy. This is why multi-DRM SaaS exists, which incorporates video DRM systems, like Google's Widevine, Microsoft's ...

                Talking about Google:
Antitrust holds press conference with press Q&A announcing the fine on Google of €4.34 billion for illegal practices regarding Android mobile devices to strengthen dominance of Google's search engine, Google's exclusive app-bundling policies illegally blocking competition in the Android based hardware device space over the last decade but especially since 2011

              in Android OS:
.-Playready 3.0 is needed for Amazon Prime Video App to work (also HDCP 2.2 if you want HDR)
.-Google Widevine L1 is needed for Netflix App to work at 1080p and 3160p (also HDCP 2.2 if you want HDR)
if the box got both DRMs then HULU should also work, and the future AndroidTV app from HBO too (there is going to be a new version now that HBO is from AT&T with a new netflix bussines model)
.-Not having WiFi ac is sad but doesnt affect streaming services, Netflix and Amazon uses around 25Mbps in UHD with HDR and WiFi n have 150-300Mbps, it only affects UHD videos from your NAS if you have uncompressed Blurays for example. The bad thing of WiFi n is that there are too many possible interferences in 2.4G band
.-Dolby and DTS licenses would make this box ideal

Thanks trebor for the info, I'll be wating for your future news

There are other boxes with Google Certified AndroidTV OS starting to appear

Full list including recent certified devices
Streaming & Gaming Players Certified Retail Set-top Boxes, Dongles, Soundbars & Projectors Personal website with no affiliation with Google

And there is also the Xiaomi Mi Box 4 international version MDZ-22-AB that maybe have some improvements in thermal from the previous version

                    Hello!
If you can please confirm that the latest Netflix apk and Amazon Prime Video apks works at least in 1080p, and th Dolbly license works allowing Netflix DD+ to send DD audio when you have just a DD receiver, then you have here a buyer
I think that those 3 things working is what many people are looking on an android tv box
                    Thanks in advance

I feel they will not be able to assist too much at this stage Due to Geographic Location,
It may take a little time for it to get out there see if there is any issues and then be resolved

Thank you Trebor for the heads up on the upcoming sale. My alarm clock is ready and set to go. The sale starts July 23 and they only have 840 units, for the price of $60 USD. BUTT, they are NOT providing any popcorn, that could be a killer for people that love their popcorn. It appears that they are about 12 hours ahead of me, so I don't have to rise early. So, according to my calculation, I should be able to make my purchase Sunday, July 22, 2018 at NOON. Coupon code GBKM8. Of course, they won't have then in stock until August 3, according to their online chat.
