        Randy,
        Just a quick FYI.
I downloaded and flashed it on my M9 Pro with 3G. The flash was successful, however that was all she wrote. The reboot did not yield any splash screen or anything. Hit the reset, then attempted to power it on but still nothing.

Sorry I can't provide anymore detailed info.

          Hi Randy,
First and foremost, I'd just like to thank you for your time and efforts in creating these roms to share with us.
I too, have also been trying to flash the SMS rom to no avail. (Incl. the update to 1.8sms2)
I'm having the same problems as others are mentioning - after the flash completes, there is no
response from my Pipo M9 Pro 3G.
I tried the OTA version earlier today, and this rom does indeed work, so I'm beginning to wonder what's different that is stopping the SMS rom from booting up after the flash.
I have tried leaving the device for 10 minutes after the flash, and following the supplied instructions with regards to troubleshooting the flash, neither appears to work for me.
          Any advise please?

Same here, after rebooting all I get is a blank screen.

The computer recognizes the device when connecting and disconnecting the usb cable, but the flashing tool informs the tablet is in flashing mode, so I guess the device isn't able to reboot into "normal" mode.

            Hope this helps.

              Changing Rileys Bootanimation.

              Thanks
Firstly you must have a root enabled Explorer not the RkExplorer that comes with the device try this "RootExplorer" (type into Playstore) installed it and gain root access my going into any sytem folder and tr changing the RO(Read Only) status to RW (readwrite) and it will prompt you approve the superuser request. Once you have given it superuser approval. PPlease familiarised with the folders inside the system folders/
you go to root directory the top most directory on your device. Then go to system/media/ folder inside it there will a zip file called "bootanimation.zip" replace that file with the attached "bootanimation.zip" file attached (PiPo standard bootanimation) make sure you set the permission (is alrite) and ownership correctly(root/root)
It is about 7Mb versus RILEYs 24Mb

NOTE :Please rename the file from PiPobootanimation to just bootanimation.

Why dont you all try this trick.

I suspect it is the boot.img file why dont you guys take the previous boot.img and substitute it with v1.8 boot.img for your respective version 3G/Wifi.

Just to help RILEY out, he has his hands tied too by all of us moaning, whining, crying , he did ask us to help him by trying out his different kernels switching over to troubleshoot instead we keep whining, wailing expecting him alone to carry this weight on his shoulder.
But I have a different solution why dont you substitute the boot.img file (from stock firmware, extract it and put that image in) the kernels you have to use RILEYS kernels. Substitute this wit that version and see the results and feedback!! Dont whine.
I suspect it to be a boot.img corrupt since you dont even see the RILEY badge power up animation.

1.8 SMS2 not booting for me, experiments with kernel and boot images from 1.8 OTA

I agree with cracktech, Riley actually asked us to do some testing. I've got my laptop up and running after installing an SSD and have finally gotten to the point where I can do it. Here's my result:

                  1. Tried to flash with the new SMS2 ROM. Same result as the previous SMS ROM, i.e no boot, tablet goes to back flash mode again.
                  2. Replaced the SMS2 kernel.img with the OTA kernel.img. Flashed. Same result.
                  3. Un-did previous step and replaced SMS2 boot.img with the OTA boot.img. Flashed. Same result.
                  4. Replaced kernel.img once more, ie flashed with OTA kernel and boot images. Same result.
                  5. Changed to the OTA download and flashed, tablet is happy and booting again.

Keep up the good work Riley and if you have any more test suggestions, I'm all ears
                  Cheers,
                  Lars

                    SMS2 + stock boot.img, no success

I tried cracktech's suggestion and the linked boot.img, it still does not work. One thought... the SMS2 boot.img is almost 10 times smaller than the stock file. Shouldn't that difference affect addresses and such in the parameter file?
                    Cheers,
                    Lars

                      Bootanimation.zip

                      Thanks a bunch Cracktech!
By now I am aware of the procedure and have been experimenting a bit. I was mainly after the original boot file, as it's gone by now and I do not wish to flash again as 1.8 works very well for me.
                      Thanks again.
                      /Kastrup

                        Hi all,
here are my findings from playing around with the OTA and SMSv2 Roms:
                        Default settings used:
OTA - Boots as per normal
SMSv2 - After flash, nothing appears to be happening.
(Black screen, no formatting performed, no Riley boot animation can be seen, etc.)

                        Combination of the 2 Roms:

                        1.8Rom 1.8SMS
                        Boot N Y
                        Kernel N Y
                        System Y N
Result? Device performs formatting, reboots, but then reverts to black screen

                        Boot N Y
                        Kernel Y N
                        System N Y
Result? Device performs formatting, reboots, but then hangs at Riley Boot animation

                        Boot Y N
                        Kernel N Y
                        System N Y
Result? Device performs formatting, reboots, but then hangs at Riley Boot animation

                        Boot Y N
                        Kernel Y N
                        System N Y
Result? Device performs formatting, reboots, hangs at Riley Boot animation

Using Boot supplied by cracktech in previous post, with default parameter:

                        Kernel 1.8SMSv2
                        System 1.8SMSv2
Result? Device performs formatting, reboots, then hangs at Pipo Boot screen

                        Kernel 1.8
                        System 1.8SMSv2
Result? Device performs formatting, reboots, then hangs at Pipo Boot screen

                        Kernel 1.8SMSv2
                        System 1.8
                        Result? SUCCESS! and Root confirmed.

Hope the above helps in the perfecting of this Rom.
Only issue I have found is that en_apk_install does not appear to install - I Quite like some of the included apps :-(

                          Pipo M9 Pro RileyROM 1.8

I did exactly the same things to both ROMs that usually work....but the SMS version clearly doesn't. I'm not sure why. If OTA works, let's stick with that for now.

As I get time, I'll look into that SMS rom some more, but tonight I'm the Chief on duty at my job...and it's a full moon. Too many fires/Ems calls to even fire up my laptop.

Hang in there RANDY, you are OK.
But just to let you know what I did I am on RILEY v1.8 ROm moved over from KASTY ROM because for this particular update on KASTY #337 a lot of us cant get past the install en.apk page (the very first page) without having the "provision error msg" that eans it doesnt let you even access the home page.
and I tried RILEY it was OK no "provision error msg" but I changed the boot.img to the stock boot img and did a little bit of modification to his build.prop namely in his net.tcp.wifi settings
Other than that his settings is as close as it can get to the better optimised build.prop (I had all the settings build into my previous devices already from 2years ago).

But for those that faced problems in gps fix my solution works as can be seen in the ARCHTABLET forum posts.first download this software from Playstore
                            NTPSync : https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...id=org.ntpsync

Then put the gps.conf file attched into system/etc folder BUT, BUT before you put this in there (this gps.conf file is meant for United Kingdom) you must edit the ntp server to your locale for say example Poland the continental ntp is still europe .pool.nt.org but the country would be pl.pool.ntp.org, so are the rest of the world please google for your countrys ntp server address like China it will be cn.pool.ntp.org, Malaysia my.pool.ntp.org. It should be used in conjunction with the NTPSync.apk file from Playstore and it should be on a rooted device to make it work.
You should see a fix quickly from none to at least 4 and see the green light on on GPS Test app on your device. Make sure that you set the onership correctly to root/root.

The gps.conf file which is not present in the stock ROM can be downloaded here (but remember to edit to your locale this is for United Kingdom)

KastyRom requires EN_APK_INSTALL unckecked, so I should imagine the same applies to RileyRom!
