Hi All, been testing for an hour now - here is the short feedback: WiFi OK : AnTuTu 17345 : Keyboard OK : BT OK : pptp vpn OK : Open VPN - I needed to load tun.ko with installer - then OK : now for the interesting news !!.....My display will not shut down...Power button on short press does not work (yes, I checked settings) This means that when setting up and using a second user you have to reboot to get back to the lockscreen to change users (not good, and not correct) it also means you cannot shut the screen down as long press on the power button only gets you reboot or switch off, not sleep. it makes no difference how short the time to sleep is - the screen stays on - both with and without power connected. This is the devastating news. Also the Pipo launcher is there, but not correct, it seems Randy has taken out too much - when PiPo launcher is running we should be able to switch to child mode - this bit in the corner is now dead, so I can't let my daughter play ALSO ESFile Explorer has been taken out from the PiPo stuff and I could not reinstall from the Play store - but trusty Titanium got it back for me and was recognised by the play store once installed?? I am now unsure what the debloating is for!!??? We are able to bump the memory for apps up to what we like, we have 2Gb plus 32Gb to play with, so why worry about removing stuff if it breaks the tablet?....just a thought guys - yes, we want faster, yes we want rooted, but I don't think any of us want broken do we? I have actually been looking around to try to find a way of simply rooting the Tablet without doing anything else - this would enable me to fix the two things I want from the tablet - namely the ability to use Open VPN and multi user. I know that is selfish, but maybe it would solve others problems as well? We are all capable of uninstalling apps ourselves for minimal debloating, but most of us (and I include myself here) are unable to rewrite the software to get root. Over to the forum for more discussion! I hope Randy gets some sleep before he gets this post !! So, could someone else quickly try to see if this power/sleep problem is real, or just me? I will go try the stock ROM now to check - did not have it on long enough before to notice! :: Edit #2 - back to the new stock ROM and all is OK on the power button front, so at least my tablet is working. now, if only I could get it rooted............:-)

This is already working for me on Riley 1.7b.

Needed to delete the provision.apk under system and add a line to the build.prop.

Maybe you can check something like this:
install gmd gestures ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...troldemo&hl=de )

Start an activate it an the try this gesture 4 Fingers on the tab rotating against the clock. This is normaly turning of the display (same as using short press on the power button).

This could prove if the hole standby thing is not working or "just" the short press on the button..

Also you should have a app called "reboot" or something like that and when startet you can select sleep (as i remember).

I can confirm that short power button does nothing. The only thing I tried / changed in settings was to set timeout to 15 seconds and that doesn't do anything. That's very inconvenient.

I haven't done much yet other than get Titanium Backup from Play store. I do notice that Busybox is still a version that doesn't support DNS (nslookup, telnet, ... in a shell). I can get another Busybox in PlayStore to fix that.

I didn't install the release this was based on to see the differences between Pipo Launcher in the two versions. Maybe I should see what their "new" Launcher looks like initially.

I tried GMD Gesture but I'm gesture impaired (too new at it). Screen Off is 5 fingers rotated counterclockwise and that doesn't sleep either. Tap 4 fingers is Alt-Tab and that is displayed before it switches. The few times I've got it to recognize 5 fingers rotate, it did display Screen Off in small letters, but didn't do so.

It was a great idea though - would have let me keep this version on longer.

Ahh, ok, 5 Fingers then, couldn´t remember right, because im not in front of the tablet.

so there ist really a problem with the screen setting and not just the button remapped or something like that.

Haven´t read from this problem in the kasty rom thread, so it must be unique to rileys at the moment?!

So I´m waiting on my 1.7b for some updates from the mighty riley ;-)

Please understand that changes I make to ROMs I don't have a tablet to test on are 1. Based on theory. And 2. Based on what I know works on my other tablets. I had a feeling this one was going to present some difficulties...which is why I requested testers.

Although Pipo only says they don't support multi-user, they don't say why. By turning it on, untested we are going into uncharted territory with whatever consequences. Since that's the only drastic change I've made, I'll point to that first.

I believe in a clean, no frills ROM without all of the crap. All of my early ROMs were debloated down to as close to a pure Android System as possible. Partly due to my own curiosity and many requests, I elected to leave some of the Pipo stuff in...compromising my original rules. Since there is so much there, it's hard to decide what is worth keeping. Everything I leave in leads to more requests to keep something else...so now I'm in a continuous loop.

Smaller file sizes mean faster downloads and less storage consumption. I just try to minimize the package...for the sake of the site.

Also, clogging the system with apps like ES File Explorer can cause a problem with updates. While it's easy to remove a user app, you need to know more about how to get into the system to remove a system app...so I try to simplify things by removing them and letting the user add themselves.

All of this is a dynamic process.

You might try removing the provision.apk from the system and see if it resolves the standby issue.

That's another thing. To get Pipo stuff to work, provision has to be there. If I removed everything, that problem would be resolved.

But there is still that home button not working if provision is missing. Some of these apps are intertwined. It's like playing dominos.

Sorry for the blast. It seems I have more work to do.

is it just with the newer roms? because I deletet the provision.apk to geht multiuser, but my homebutton is still working without a problem! 1.7b works good for me. (ok, from time to time there ist a freeze and only reset ist helping, but not often)....

I would go with the cleanest an smallest rom, and eventually an extra zip file with pipo launcher and stuff like that...?!

Hi Randy, I thought you would still be sleeping! I am just off now myself, but thought I would check up before crawling up the stairs. Just to let you know that I added exactly the same multi user line myself to the build.prop file in the Katsy ROM - I cannot honestly remember which editor I used, but I did not put any comments, just the correct letters required and the same value of 3 . This worked perfectly - and to be honest it does in your ROM as well I have NOT deleted the provision.apk but it was working perfectly on Katsy and from what I could see this afternoon worked on yours as well - it is the power button off to sleep/on to lock screen that is broken, not multi user (in my humble opinion) (and some eleOn another point, I agree with the taking out of unnecessary non system apps (like ESFile explorer) as long as we can load them on ourselves from the Play store - my last post reported the problem I had doing this, I was not complaining! I did also jot down everything that happened tap for tap as I flashed this ROM - I will type this up over the weekend and send it in to Randy so he knows exactly what happened - it would take up too much room on a post and if he thinks it would be beneficial to share with us all then he can decide on that. I am hoping that Randy finds something simple that went wrong and he that he can release a new version that will hopefully have the power button issue resolved - apart from that most of the ROM is working fine! Am I the only person that has a lot of freezing and having to hard reset the device? (Through using a needle at the back of the device)

Does anyone have any recomms? As its frustrating me. Never had a problem on any other android device so surely must be fixable?
