Flashed 1.7a on my MK908 V3
Everything is perfect, except for two small problems:
Mouse wheel zoom does not work (i try 3 different mouses),
IP TV program (SPB TV) gives a bad image - blurred (app uses for display built-in system service - Media Server)
Other players (MX, Dice player) - work fine, show heavy movies via WiFi very clearly and fluently

My old mk808 and 2 tablet (on RK3066 and RK3188) work with SPB TV without quality problems

Hi guys, I'm SUPER new to all of this and android in general. Though I have plenty of background in fun hobby-ish hacking with things like this, but I'm still green to a lot of the things some of you guys consider common knowledge, so bear with me! Thanks!

I flashed 1.7a onto my mk908 v5 and ever since, it has felt like its gotten WAY slower than the stock rom that came with it.

I got it this month (December 2013). I flashed it with the 1080 vsync kernel.

My goal was to hopefully get a faster rom on it to see if I could remove a lot of the input latency/lag I have with USB controllers. I wanted to use this thing for emulation. But so fare, its practically worthless in that regard

Do i need to do anything with the cpu settings to bump it up? Does 1.7a come set with more power efficient settings? Also, are there any pointers on what I need to do to fix that?

Also, if anyone has any pointers about how to drop the input lag i'm seeing on usb controllers, I'd love the help!! So far this has been a huge disappointment.

For your first problem i have no idea, this is not the case on my v3 unit.
The second thing is easy, you need to connect the harddrive through a powered usb hub to the otg port, as it does not not get enough power from the device itself.

Ive got the 1080vsync kernal working great, had a few crashes in the beginning , but is it possible that the system settles down after a while, because i dont get any now?

i couldnt get openvpn for android to work?? i caused the system to crash, and when it didnt crash it just said that it wasnt running??
no worries though as i can connect to the VPN through the android settings... a little more long winded but it connects every time

I have a mk908 v5.0 and now flash your rom on this and work pretty good, the wireless is more stable than overseas_rom. I have a problem with this device , when i bought this, a bought also a CANYON 720p web camera (model CNR-FWC120H) and a SERIOUX Phantom 3000W wireless pc/ps3 vibration gamepad. The problem is I can not use any of device on my MK908! I think as missing drivers in the software.
I would be grateful if you help me !

UPDATE 12/10/2013

Here is 1.7a. The ONLY change is a new recovery.img that works with all models of MK908.
If your already up and running on 1.7 there is no reason to reflash the entire ROM.

OK folks you have been asking and I finally got around to it. A new ROM made from the latest beelink/tronsmart ROM "overseas".

This kernel still had the old frame skipping issues so I fixed that by patching the kernel. Special thanks to Mr. Anderson for his patcher that makes the job a lot easier

THEN... this time around I bring you a set of vsync patched Over-Clock kernels. They are a separate download for those that want to use them. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Features and release notes for my 1.7 ROM:

0) Sorry I hated the new launcher provided with this ROM. It sucks in my opinion!
So I put back the AOSP Android launcher.

1) Rooted and new SU and Superuser applied that supports Android 4.2.2

2) Stock ROM was only 2 Gig of APP space.
BUT you also have parameter file options!
There are also 1gb, 2gb, 4gb and 6gb options.
Read below for how to change that in the flash tool.
Realize if you use this 6gb option, internal SDcard will only have about 600 megs of free space!

3) Debloated of junk APPs and Google Apps you can get from Google Play.
I also updated Google Play and required Google APPs to the latest version.

4) As always, full init.d support! If you do not know what that is... ignore it. For geeks that want to use it. It is there!

5) I re-enabled location services. This is now in the settings menu.
Tested and working with all APPs that use it.
Remember to turn off GPS as we have no GPS.

6) I also re-enabled accessibility options in settings.

7) Gameloft fix. Rockchip sources now have this fix in!
We at Freaktab learned this fix from Christian Tory. Then FreakTab dev's passed it on to Minix, then this obviously got to Rockchip!
Amazing! All RockChip ROMs have had this GameLoft issue for 3 years. Now because of us Android lovers, RockChip finally fixed this! I am proud as I am sure all FreakTab Dev's are, to have helped Android progress even from Chip makers like RockChip! Eventually they do listen to us users
With that said.... ROCKCHIP! RELEASE SOURCES!
If your going to use the communities developers to help you, THEN HELP US! Do the right thing!

8) Build.prop edit to open up the Google Play store to APPs that normally say "not compatible".
I am spoofing a Samsung device that will show almost any APP as compatible.
Your device will show up in google play as Samsung device nopt a MK908 or RKSDK! Understand this please.
I also left the original build.prop in the ROM called build.orig.
If you want to go back, just use ES FIle Explorer or a root file explorer and rename build.prop to build.old
Then rename build.orig to build.prop.
Go into settings, apps, all and go into the Google Play app. Clear the cache and data.
Reboot! You should be back to showing up as a 908ii.
WARNING if you do this, you need to be using the 1080 kernel or your screen will be oversized!

9) I added a reboot APP that will allow optional reboot options like reboot to bootloader (flash mode).

10) I provide the stock kernel but it does have the micro frame skipping issue!
BUT I have also created Vsync patched kernels that fix the micro frame skipping!
I have set the flash tool to use a 720P vsync kernel by default.

11) 1080P Kernel if you want it!
I also created a stock 1080 kernel (has frame skipping) as well as a vsync patched 1080 kernel.
See instructions below for how to choose the correct boot.img and kernel.img
720P boot and kernel is the default setup in my flash tool.

12) By request I added TUN.KO for VPN support. It was not in the kernel by default.

Install 7zip on pc, copy system/framework/framework-res.apk to your pc and open it with 7zip. Now replace res/mdpi/pointer.png (not totally sure about that filename) with the mouspointer you desire. Now replace the old framework-res.apk with modified one. Reboot and enjoy

I've been using the 1080p vsync kernel and it's been working great except for a couple of problems.Sometimes the screen updates start going crazy, the screen updates briefly and than returns to previous state and starts alternating between black, previous state and current state. This only occurs after I open specific apps such as XBMC or Chrome.
The other problem I'm having is with using wifi and bluetooth at the same time. I'm using my computer as a wireless headset, since my monitor doesn't have any audio output, but once the bluetooth connection is on, wifi internet speed drops significantly and watching streaming videos becomes impossible.

PS: I'm not sure which version of the MK908 I have, I'm assuming it's a V5 since I bought it really recently, but I'm more than possibly wrong about this.

Posting just incase this is of assistance to anyone else.

Further to this, I have discovered that MX player does in fact passthrough dts/dd5.1 natively (nothing modded). This worked if rockchip hdmi passthrough is selected in the system sound settings and MX player is set to HW decode (not HW+).

This proves that the MK908 hardware is compliant/supports passthrough correctly. Now to find a way to get xbmc to utilise the same method.

It does not have the media patch as I cannot test it so I do not add it unless users report it works.

I just received a tronsmart MK908v5 yesturday and flashed the 1.7a rom. - loving it btw! so big thankyou.

but ive got just one issue. Im trying to get multichannel audio out via hdmi. I've tried various xbmc builds/forks without success. Currently I am using "SPMC libmedia edition v1.5.1" which appears to need a patched libmedia.so. Does the Finless 1.7a rom include this?

Do you have any ideas as to a solution? I appreciate any assistance you could provide. Thanks heaps!
