Use RootExplorer application. You need have root. First, make copy of original file for any case.
Then, change to new file, set permition as on other files in this folder. Set owner to root. (via RootExplorer features). Then, reboot device.

unbricking

I have same device and managed to brick it at least 3 times by flashing with different roms and mainly when trying linuxium.
I had same issues you had - the device always go off after 5 sec so.
I used the method with "rom masking mode" by making short circuit between 8 & 9 pins on NAND chip.
I got a lot of failures, but you need to keep trying. I used RKBatchToolv1.7 and RKDevelopToolv1.37.
Every time manage to unbrick it in different way - once with BatchTool , once with DevelopTool. Just after let say 3 times failures with one, switch to the other and so.
to unbrick:
1.Load RKBatchTool with your ROM.
2.Load RKDevelopTool with bootloader only from your any ROM v.1.24 is best I think. - once bootloader is OK you can boot device in bootloader mode and flash it.
3.Connect only OTG cable - power is not required.
4.Hold power button and hold it.
5.Short pins 8 and 9 with needle or pin until Batch tool display blue icon and/or DevelopTool display rom masking mode. Remove the needle and send flash command with either tool.
Sometimes even if you not use the needle it is in this mode - probably because the NAND is empty/corrupted - you don't need to make a short-circuit.
Last time after few hours endless attempts I unbricked it with BatchTool.
