Q7 Rk3188 Device - What Works & Help Please?

Hey Guys ! I need some help ! I tried to downgrade my Q7 from kitkat to jellybean, and i must have done something wrong cause i get IDB failed. I searched for some answers online, found something with shorting pins 8-9 and entering a "Mask Mode" . Ok, done that , my tool is showing me the device it's in MaskMode , i erase the NAND, but when i try to restore the rom i get the same IDB fail. Who can help me ,i really need my Q7 back

Opinions about Q7 out of the box

Noob here. I know this site is great for hackers but I'd appreciate comments about the Q7 box that I am expecting soon from Geekbuying. It's this one: http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Q7-TV...ck-324259.html

I mean out of the box, as delivered. I've looked for comments in the blog but don't see what I would call a "review". I wouldn't want to mod it unless necessary....maybe going to 4.4 if easy.

I have owned a few of these and they are pretty decent. If you want really smooth XBMC playback I would definitely upgrade to kitkat 4.4 or your going to be disappointed. Geekbuying has the stock upgrade or I believe Wasser has a custom kitkat rom that works on that box too.

newbie here...question is can we have Beyond XBMC ...and...XBMC 13.2 in a same box (Q7) ???
Two boxes
1) Q7 with Andriod 4.2.2 ... sure it is with Beyond XBMC now. Play 720p perfectly on 720p LG-TV

2) 'Unknow' with Andriod 4.4.2 with XBMC but not it claimed 12.4-FLUMP Git 20140121 38bc34f which seemed like same as box 1) above. This has micro-shuttering on 1080p (play on a 720p LG-TV). Something wrong...can new XBMC fit this problem or have to update ROM ??? I really like keep all stock apps currently existed wit the box...
Suggestions pls....cheers

beyond xbmc does not run well on kitkat get spmc instead you can search for it here or in google. Runs perfect on my kitkat system.

Thanks Vec...so SPMC can be installed side-by-side with Beyond XBMC on the same box ???. Also, seemed like there is NO chance of smooth 1080p for all these boxes at this point ?

The box with kitkat 4.4 should play 1080p fine with spmc. The other box you should upgrade to kitkat you can try Wassers custom rom here:http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...-Android-4-4-2

It already has a special build of xbmc that works ok but i like spmc better............besure to use the version 1.0.4 new build not the old one. Hope this helps.

New Q7 Questions

Noob back (see 10-21). I received my Q7 from GB (this one: http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Q7-TV...ck-324259.html )

I expected 4.2.2 but it came with 4.4.2 with Antutu benchmark of 20,900. But I’m confused about some things...can someone help me? (The user manual is useless.)

First off, where is the 8 GB internal storage? Antutu tells me it has: “RAM”: 2 GB (ok!)....”System Storage”: 2 GB.....and “Internal Storage”: 3 GB. Android Settings show: “Nand Flash Total Space” is 3 GB. I’m confused by the terms: is there 8 GB and how much of that is firmware, etc..... and how much do I have to play with?

I installed a 16 GB micro sd card and Settings shows that it’s there but after downloading several apps and “Move to SD Card” for some apps, Settings (and File Explorer) show the card is still empty. How do I make sure that downloads go to the micro sd card and run from there?

Next, the highest resolution in Settings is 1280x720. Where is the “Full 1080P”?

Next, how do you turn on the Q7 with the remote? Pressing the red button doesn’t do anything.

I still need to explore XBMC more. The unit comes with Droidbox Wizard which I installed...still exploring. I tried to download SPMC from the Play Store but it kept saying “Waiting for network” (other apps download right away).

Videos that I’ve run look good....Netflix looks good. YouTube “HD” videos look good (but are they showing in 720P??)

I can’t play DVD files on my network shares (Video_TS folders and ISO disk images) although GB says the Q7 has an MPEG2 (etc.) decoder. The screen says there is no app to run them. Do I need to install a new app?

I’m using a Tronsmart air mouse (TMS-01)...better than the remote but the curser is not in line with the screen (it’s over on the left or right and I have to shake the TMS-01 to get it straight on). Is that normal or is there a way to correct that? (Is that what’s called drifting?

Well, no one's responded, but if you wait long enough, you can figure some things out yourself.

Soooooo......things I still haven't figured out:

Storage - I see different terms for possibly the same thing in Antutu, Settings and for different versions of android: "Memory", "Ram", "System Storage", "Internal Storage", "Nand Flash Internal Space", "Internal SD Card", "External SD Card", etc. Some I understand (like "External SD Card").

Still wondering: Does the 8 GB Rom include 2 GB Ram? What makes up the 8 GB space? What I see in my Q7 Settings does not add up to 8 GB (whether it's stuff that came installed or "available" storage space.

I also still haven't figured out how to turn on the Q7 except by pressing the button on the Q7 - but it's not a big deal.

Still don't know how to play Video_TS folders.

What I have figured out:

I now see "1920x1080Px60" in Display settings and it's checked. But I still don't know if that's what I'm watching. I guess it depends on content specs.

I also now understand that you can't download Play Store apps onto the external micro sd card and run them from there (in 4.4.2). But why not....internal storage space is much more limited. The external card can only store data files.

Good things: In general, I'm happy and what I see looks good. XBMC is great. I've made the Tronsmart TMS-01 a bit more stable but I'm mostly now using a Bluetooth mouse.
