Pipo M9 Pro RileyROM 2.7 KitKat

This KitKat ROM is based on a new KitKat firmware dated 3/20/14. Thanks to Freaktab member Manao for contributing the link to this firmware.

Although we have never communicated, and I made my ROM before discovering this was an already customized version...I want to thank Chinese developer Edge Xuan for his work in streamlining and beautifying the icons in this firmware. I don't usually mess around with another developer's work, but this time I made an exception (Edge Xuan, I hope it's OK).

I wish I could say what is new with this release, but since I have no change log...we shall have to find out on our own. I do know there is a new kernel in the ROM.

CAUTION: This IS a KitKat ROM...so do your homework on flashing KitKat ROM's before you get started.

NOTE: I discovered a few problems with the first version (you can see my posts below), so this is now v2.7.1. Really, the only difference in the update was to remove a couple of Chinese apps I missed in the debloat process...and add the English keyboard back into the ROM.

The main reason for this new ROM is because it contains a new kernel.

2, 4, 6, 8 or 12gb user app space by selecting the desired parameter file
Auto Install feature added for installing apk files on first boot from external SD

Flash Tool by Finless
All made with a variation of 900SuperSport's Freaktab Kitchen

I was able to download a copy of the original firmware this Edge Xuan ROM was derived from. So I have made a whole new version of the RileyROM with it. I have tested this ROM on my M7 Pro, and everything seems to work just fine.

If you are having any problems with the 2.7.1 version, please try version 2.7.2.

Issue With Rom

One issue, is comes up in Chinese in settings for Keyboard& Input method under the Language and Input option.

Don't now what to select as its Chinese

Rom looks great other than that.

Don't you have a list of language options?

You can scroll down until you find the correct language...just press buttons until you find it, I don't think you will hurt anything.

Thanks Randy for putting this together for us.

I'd suggest making a backup of your cuurent setup before flashing this ROM (I'll be doing this really because version 2.6 with the new kernel has been running absolutely great for me...I almost feel that I shouldn't mess with a good thing, but I'll try 2.7 anyway).

I'd wait until I get some things ironed out.

Since I wasn't exactly sure of the source of this firmware, even though it's a new kernel, there may have been some other modifications done by a Chinese developer. If so, I would give him/her credit for this ROM...if I knew their name(s).

Anyway, let me flash this on my M7 Pro and I will post my results. I may need to make a few modifications.

Yes, if you try this ROM, make sure you have a good backup before you flash.

OK, it appears the latinme keyboard is missing...defaulting to a Chinese custom keyboard. That isn't too much of a problem, you can use it to type in your Google account and download a keyboard app of your choice.

There are also a couple of apps I need to get rid of.

Everything else seems to work, OK.

Let me work on a revision and I'll post v2.7.1 when I'm done.

OK, I'm uploading 2.7.1 right now.

I removed a few leftover apps I missed in the debloat.

I also added the Latinme keyboard and the GPS Test apps, so the keyboard will default to it.

There's one app with a Chinese name that I can't find to remove. It's an advanced wifi manager...looks like it will need to stay for now.

Yes, this is a custom firmware from a Chinese developer...I want to thank him for his work...I just added my few cents worth to make this ROM better.

My upload speed is pretty slow this time, so I will post when it's done...in about an hour. I will just change the original link in post #1 to the new version.

Just a general question about upgrading from 2.7 to 2.7.1...Would people need to flash everything again or just certain IMG files? I know with my Android phone, I could dirty flash it by only clearing my cache and then applying the new ROM within TWRP...Is there an equivalent process within the RK Flash Tool?

I had already added my favorite KB and uninstalled a few of the apps that came with it, so I suspect that my end result is probably 95% of what 2.7.1 is now. Like you mentioned, that one app didn't seem to want to uninstall, but I did disable it.

The boot animation is fine, but I usually prefer something a little more subtle (no offense).

So far my AnTuTu scores are a few hundred less than when I used 2.6 and the updated kernel, but really can't tell the difference (both are very smooth).

Hi all,
In this ROM description i don't see any special mention about patched libril-rk29-dataonly file, so my assumption is that we have here an original KitKat version...maybe a new one.
Someone who already flashed could check if in RR 2.7 3G signal power is reported in a correct way to the system/ Deep Sleep is enabled by default with libril file included in this ROM ?
I'm at work ... i can't flash until tonight, so any report will be helpfull.

It was no possible to find the english keyboard because
Every thing was Chinese under that particular menu item. I tried and tried but nothing I did indicated english.

With the new kernel it does not work, I had 5 freezes in 10 minutes. Did the old kernel (2.6b) taken with the new ROM (2.7.1).


Now everything is going so far, a system crash in 3 hours, smaller crashes with the ROM Toolbox.
