WiFi Strength

Does anyone else feel the WiFi strength for the X8-H is substandard given the external antenna? Could this be a firmware issue?

I just tested and compared my X8-H to my Tronsmart S89-H (with its internal antenna) in a room that was on the opposite side of the house and floor below where my access point is located. The results were as follows:

Strongest signal came from the S89-H on 5G with a top download speed of 9.58 Mbps
Second strongest was the X8-H on 2.4G (5.44 Mbps)
Third was X8-H on 5G (2.22 Mbps)
Weakest signal came from S89-H on 2.4 G (1.09 Mbps)

To give the numbers a little more meaning on 5G both the X8-H and S89-H achieved download speeds of 33 Mbps when in the same room as the access point.

No just vertical .. You think that would make a difference .. or are you saying for completeness purposes?

Yes, the direction of the antenna greatly affects the performance because the antenna transmits and receives best perpendicularly to the direction of the antenna. Of course, there is a degree of off axis performance depending on the elevation of the antenna signal propagation, but perpendicular is still best.

To compare signal strength one should use app such as wifi analyzer, which is preinstalled.
Get rid all those variables such as Internet speed.

I have noticed less than optimum downloads both by WiFi and direct connection using the same download/upload challenge software. The maximum download is about 33 Mbps with 12 upload.

One antenna to both, 2.4 and 5 GHz, is always a compromise...
At S82/89, corresponding to your results, it seams maybe to be optimized for 5 GHz and at x8 for 2.4 GHz, but the benefit at x8 is the detachable antenna...
