NVM, looks like I've figured it out. Using Wifi Tether on my phone....thought I had to connect via cable. That would make no sense, would it?Last edited by HaroldG; 09 July 2012, 23:36.Asus Transformer TF300T - ROOTED, with TWRP recovery and stock Jellybean

There are 2 ways to "tether" to a device that has a 3G/4G connection.
Wifi where the phone/tablet with 3G/4G actually sets up a "adhoc" wifi connection. A adhoc wifi connection means you have taken a device that normally is a "client" on wifi and turned it into a "host" where it is broadcasting a SSID, etc and allows other devices to connect to it. Then the phone/tablet "shares" the 3G/4G connection with devices connected to it on the wifi adhoc connection. When you turn a device into a adhoc host, you can no longer use it as a client to connect to other wifi connections. It cant be both a host and a client!
Cable tether. The phone/tablet with 3G/4G connection shares that connection with a device that connects to it with a cable. Usually USB but can be a proprietary phone connector.
So now.... Stock Arnova ROMs did not allow the Arnova tablet to connect to a "adhoc" network. It could only connect to a "infrastructure" network... e.g. a real Wifi router etc..
In my 1.5 ROM I replaced the stock Arnova wpa_supplicant binary file with a different wpa_supplicant file from another gingerbread tablet that supported connecting to a adhoc network. The nextbook gang actually found this wpa_supplicant file and it just happened to work on the Arnova as well.
My 2.1 ROM should support connecting to a "adhoc" network. BUT you know what... I have not actually tested it to see!!!!! So I am going to do that tomorrow and make sure.
Finally... I see many misuses of the word "hot spot". A hot spot can be a standard infrastructure wifi network or a adhoc network. A hot spot was originally coined for a non-password protected (no WEP, WPA, etc) wifi connection. But today it really means a wifi connection that is available to use password protected or not. In my opinion that is incorrect. It should stay as a non-password protected wifi connection. So just FYI on that.
Hope that helps.

Your right.... I figured Arnova was the only tab that did not allow connection to a adhoc network!
It doesnt work! I just tested it. I did not think to put my new wpa_supplicant in 2.0 or 2.1. And yet not ONE single person complained of this until now. But I can confirm adhoc networks DO NOT show up in wifi connections
But do not fear! I am going to fix this for sure!

OK just fixed it. The wpa_supplicant file I used in my 1.5 ROM does work on this ROM.
However.... like in my 1.5 ROM you can connect to ONLY WEP or WPA protected adhoc networks. It will not work with WPA2 PSK adhoc networks.
I am not going to release a new ROM for this fix. Instead I will release the wpa_supplicant in a file and you can replace it yourself. I am going to see if APP Injector will do it to make it easy for n00bs.
Bob
P.S. for the ROMs that are in beta like the 7G2 and 8G2, I will now cook it in to the final release of those."Pzebacz im, bo nie wiedzą, co czynią"

I would be really grateful if you can let me have the wpa_supplicant file and some instructions so that I can replace and test.
Kind Regards

Petrus is working on a patcher APP for me but for now here is the wpa_supplicant file and instructions.
1) Download this file supp.zip. Unzip it and put wpa_supplicant file on your SDcard.
http://video.freaktab.com/?subpath=f...ename=supp.zip
2) Get ES FIle explorer. In settings on ES file explorer setup like this
a) go into "file setting" and turn on show hidden files. Back up one level.
b) scroll down and turn on up to root.
c) Scroll down and turn on root explorer
d) below that turn on mount system as RW
3) Go into you android settings and turn off wifi
4) using ES FIle explorer go into /system/bin and rename wpa_supplicant to wpa_supplicantold
5) Copy the wpa_supplicant into /system/bin
6) Hold you finger on the wpa_supplicant file and get the pop up. Scroll down and select properties
7) In properties click the change button to change permissions
8) Make sure all 9 boxes are checked!
9) Exit ES file explorer and reboot.
10) go back into settings and turn on wifi. Your adhoc network should now show up.

I did the process as prescribed, but it broke wifi altogether. Had to undo it.

It should work fine on my 10G2 Gingercomb or 1.5. It's quite possible when you copied it over that failed (did you forget to turn off wifi first?), or you forgot to set the pemrissions? OR your SDcard is corrupt and the file coming off the sdcard is bad?
Doing this process will work!
But I will be releasing an updated ROM today anyway

It was the G2. Ill just wait for the flash.
Will the CWM backup restore ok after flash this time? Or, will those changes be overwritten from a backup?

What was happening was the wifi would never come back on. Permissions were already checked. It also broke an app called Volume+ I had to reinstall. It might have affected that for some reason.
No problem, though. I got everything back to normal. My iPhone won't do wifi tether unless I do away with my grandfathered unlimited data plan. I was just playing around.

I tested CWM against 2.1a which will have the supplicant and 300mb of system space. Turns out the 240 I gave it before was not enough which is why when you selected ALL apps using APP Injector, some apps did not get installed. It ran out of space.
But yes I flashed 2.1a then did a CWM restore and it all worked fine.
