Arnova 10G2 Finless Bob's "GingerComb" Custom ROM Version 2.1 CWM

1.5C and 2.1 CWM

I found Bob’s 1.5c firmware and installed it this morning and have been playing with it for few hours. I have to say it works great and now I have just discovered the 2.1 custom ROM!!

Although 1.5c gives me everything I want, I am now tempted to move to 2.1 as I am keen to try the new interface. I have only one question.

If I wanted to move back from 2.1 to 15c, is it a fairly straightforward process (i.e just loading 1.5c as I originally did) or is it more complicated?

I would be grateful for your advice.

Yes

Just re flash back the Rom that you want to use. Back up your apps though as re flashing wipes your apps etc

To do that you will need to install a 3rd party launcher. Adw ex I would recommend

I have been trucking along just fine with this ROM since just a few hours after Bob released it. The stability is impressive. Now that I've refrained from task killing, the file system isn't corrupt.

After working with this ROM for a while, I've developed a consistent problem with Google Play.

It takes me 4 tries to either install an update or a new app. The first time I get an invalid Page file error. The next two times I get insufficient storage errors. On the 4th try, the app just goes ahead and installs. I have checked the file system, and I haven't begun to touch the 1gb of app space yet.

Anyone else encountered this?

There have been som Play issues lately. I was unable to do any updates the other day. I googled it and found sure enough lots of people were having trouble. Google Play supports said to do this.

1) Go into accounts and sync and turn on Gmail sync or if already on, turn it off and back on and then sync it.

2) If that doesnt work then go in and clear the GPlay and google framework cache in manage apps. Restart and then do #1 again above.

It fixed it for me. I was getting wierd error codes, no connection, no space, etc. I was going to reflash and start over but decided to see what was going on and found the article of the problems Gplay has been having since about 6/28. After doing #1, it fixed everything for me.

Hey, again. Please, Finless, I'm sure you can tell me something about my problem. After the boot image, I get those horrible stripes below...
Is it, as Damo said, a hardware problem, or maybe I can get a solution without having to take it back to the shop?

Yep... that is going to be a hardware problem. ROM should not do that.

Hi mate have you tried re-downloading the rom and reflashing it just to make sure the rom you downloaded wasn't corrupted ? can remember on Darkyrom a while ago a similar problem when people tried flashing I9000t models of the SGS with I9000 roms and they ended up with a screen full of lines so it could be rom related if there was a problem with the rom ??

Wifi tethering and portable hotspot - Not working

Hi Guys,
After the reply this afternoon, I installed 2.1 custom rom and the experience is really good. The work done by Bob and the team is simply amazing. However the support for Wifi tethering and portable hotspot is (probably) broken which I really really wanted!

I can confirm that portable hotspot support was working fine in 1.5c this morning before I upgraded to 2.1.

I am using the same Nokia phone and the same wifi app (on nokia) but on 2.1, the tablet simply won’t find it or connect to it. When trying to enable portable wifi hotspot, Wifi connection fails to recover on then wifi does note even turn on for standard access point. The tablet has to be re-booted in order for normal wifi to work at all
Bob, do you have any ideas? I am desperate for hotspot to work.

Even thought the menu is there for tethering it is not going to work becuase the tablet needs a 3G connection to allow you to be a thether!

However you should be able to connect to Adhoc or hotspots! I can with no issue.
If the hotspot is not broadcasting the SSID it's not going to who up in the menu and you will have to enter the SSID manually.
