But I have to ask. Why are you guys wanting to install a new busybox? There is a busbox already in the ROM. All of them have this stock, it's just not a full blown version. So you are aware busybox is there. Or are you wanting the full blown one for some reason?

Openvpn needs busybox, so I installed it from Google Play. But I can try it with your preinstalled binary too.

Also the busybox installer creates symlinks to lot of commands in /system/bin, maybe that causes the problem not the version of the binary?

Proper install of a add-on busybox (other than stock) the symlinks should be going in /xbin not in /bin. Yes very good chance something is going on there and breaking how Arnova tries to power down. It's either breaking a symlink, or that busybox your installing is not compatible.

Try it with the stock busybox!

So you know EVERY RK29 ROM I have ever done always has a "stock" version on busybox in /bin. So unless your trying to do something the stock busybox does not support, you should not need to try and install busybox. It can jack up the OS since in fact the OS was built to use busybox.

To update busybox to a "higher end" version, lots more needs to be done to make it work! Again this is what I had to do to my 2.2 ROM.

I uninstalled busybox and all the symlinks from the device, but still no luck.. Is there a way to extract the /system/bin folder from the image? I need the stock busybox binary and symlinks without reflashing the rom..

system.img is a standard EXT4 linux disk image. If you have a linux box you can mount it and do anything you need to do.

Before reading your reply and after playing with unyaffs2 and gnu debugger in linux for half hour I managed to unpack the file with winimage.

Anyway thanks for the information, I'm gonna need that later..

Apparently "BusyBox v1.11.1 (2009-03-11 09:17:49 CST) multi-call binary" is what this rom needs for a complete shutdown. After placing it back to /system/bin everything is back to normal.

UPDATE: problem found.. Since the new binary supports only 'ash' shell, not 'sh', the /system/bin/shutdown script fails at the first line:

Busy box 1.19.x per the super charger V6 thread on XDA is the best I have found without a question.

Thanks man, I will try 1.19.x. The one from the online installer seems to lack lot of commands, file size is less than half of 1.11.1..

Read the XDA V6 Supercharger thread. He recommends a 1.19.xx busybox. It has everything I have ever needed... AWK, etc... I dont care what the file size is. So far for me and all my testing.... It's the best one I found for RK29 tabs and the kernel we are stuck with! e.g. it doesnt screw up the OS calling busybox the way it wants to! Shut down will work with it. At least it does on my 10G2.

the first noticable improvement is they fixed the ls -l output, so no garbage characters.

Yes sorry.... I dont have my Tab ready right now (it's in FLASH mode testing a ROM... Imagine that ).

But this was the busybox I found to be the BEST!

Now just make sure you put it in /xbin along with the needed symlinks! Seems like you know what your doing though

In my opinion, after facing with previous problems and flashing the tablet every five minutes!, the only problem I faced last night - here in Iran! - was a crash with my launcher after trying to play a youtube video, it was surprising for me since the ram was not full either. Other than that, I think this is the true rom for final release.

Also I have another problem with my vpn settings. Whenever I connect to a vpn, it disconnects a few moments after the system screen turns off. I'm not sure whether it's a bug or only my vpn's problem. Further, vpn timer does not work, it's always on 00:00

Calling something a beta isnt such a bad thing imo but yeah this rom feels like its complete. I can only see minor problems remaining, like the unneccessary icons in the status bar (mobile network + ethernet).
