I had the same problems.
I had to use the universal RK driver installer program on my Win 7 64bit laptop. (RK_DriverAssitant.zip) Ever since that, I've had no driver issues.
I was under the impression that the A/V micro switch had to be held in as power was applied. Make sure you are powering your device with the wall adapter. Easy to hold in the switch with a toothpick while you plug in the adapter DC port, then the USB. Then you can release the micro switch.
