Hi
I have been following this thread for some time but this is my first post
I would like to buy a box for my uncle but would like to get a 4K one that runs OpenELEC. It seems Amlogic S802 is best choice?
Can you suggest a box for me on Alibaba / Ali Express or even the name of one that will let him watch 4K on Linux?
I tried searching but 131 pages is a lot to read!
Thanks

Smilez & Jreed, use the link provided in post #1946 here, and download the .zip extract on a SDCard. Get the IP of the box and putty into it do not insert the SDCard as yet. after you are in, excute reboot recovery, the Android guy will come up and fall down, select wipe data/factory reset. When that is done insert the SDCard, putty back into the box and excute the same reboot recovery, the Android man will come up and load OE for you.

oe_Rocks; welcome to the world of sleepless nights; there are many good boxes out there;. I recommend the M8, this box is very stable and simple to program, it can do 4k, plus it has lots of memory 2gb/8gb 4k, with the right OE on it you get all (4) quad running all at once. Do enjoy the hobby.

hi guys well i have a question I’ve been running Codesnake m8 5.0.3 and its running fine, my problem is the original remote that came with my M8 got wrecked so i bought a new one from the people i got my M8 from. Most are you are familiar with the crappy roundish remote that thing sucked. but this new has a lot of promise. If i had kept the original firmware i could use all the buttons, but with Codesnake's version i can't get all the buttons to work.. Can any one help me or point me in the right direction? here's a pic of the new RemoteYou may only view thumbnails in this gallery. This gallery has 1 photos.1 Photo

Let's try this again, first if you are on PC get "putty" it is a program you need to download and install. if you are on MAC open terminal. (Part one).
Since your remote does not work. connect the box to a router, open a browser and log into the router see ( I assume you know how to do that). fine the IP the router is giving the Box. (Part two).
Open putty or terminal depend on your system, enter the IP you got, username is root passW is openelec at the command propmt then follow post #1954

Sometimes in recovery the OK button doesn't work but the up and down buttons work. When the OK button doesn't work use the return arrow button as the OK button.
