The project seems to be based on RK3066 Edison tablet kernel.

SO it could be that CPU/GPU make some interference on WiFi antennas because they too close (one antenna is on top of circuits). Interference on wifi provoke wifi chip-set drop wifi bandwidth. It is easy to explain if CPU frequency is 1.2Ghz because second harmonic will be at 1.2*2=2.4GHz. Is there any chance that CPU frequency is set to 1.2GHz? Do we have dynamic CPU frequency there when it drops to 1.2 GHz sometimes?

Just tried the 2 wires soldered on the ant pad... Works like a charm. Had -80db before, now I'm -60db stable!!!! My HTC explorer has the same result at the same spot. divx in DLNA, youtube... Now i have to find some HD footage to see if it can go through my network (802.11g only, so 54Mbps max).
Thanks Finless and Thanks the community!

However, in this topic some people have mentioned using XBMC.
I've searched the internet and noticed that it would be possible to use XBMC with MXPlayer, however, haven't been able to do it myself as being an Android newbie I probably lack some skills here.
The method (allthough for allwinners) is introduced here:
More XBMC builds here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1813089
Has anyone been able to succesfully use XBMC with MXPlayer with MK808 ?
If so, a step by step installation guide (for an android idiot) would be much appreciated...

With 1.6, you do not need any additional application to run xbmc - here is the link to the non-neon version... LINK TO XBMC for android - 13Nov update
( I have not tried this latest version, but the version just before this - and is still working like a charm)

WiFi problems and partial solution
Hi guys,
first of all I would like to thank Finless for his time and work on these roms and his support in this forum.
I'll definitely make a donation soon (waiting for some funds to arrive in my PayPal these next few days)
I have the mk808 for a couple of days now and was pretty disappointed in the beginning - crappy resolution, WiFi problems, etc. My search brought me to this forum and I'm now running the Finless 1.5a custom rom, which fixed most of the issues I was having. However the network problems were not solved for me. In my frustration I decided to open my unit and check for the ANT and GND short circuit. They were indeed shortened and I removed both antennas and soldiered them only to the ANT pin. I turned on the unit without closing the plastic cover, just for testing and I found that my signal had full bars and was steady on 65Mbits. And it stayed that way. So happy with the result I turned off the unit and closed the plastic covers. Once I turned it on again, the signal was weak and crappy again and kept dropping the connection. Once I opened the case again and spread the two parts of the case as far as the antennas wires go, the signal was excellent and consistent again. I'm not sure if the un - grounding the antennas had any influence but now I'm 100% sure these WiFi problems come from some sort of interference with the unit's chips. I encourage everyone with similar WiFi problems to try and open the case of their units. The easiest way to do that (at least for me) is to insert just the tip of a straight screwdriver (no more than 1mm of the tip) into the MicroSD slot and gently rotate in any direction until the two parts of the cover separate from each other. Then just spread them away from the unit as far as the wires allow. It's that simple!
The above solution worked for the WiFi connection stability, however I still have some peculiar problems with the Google Play and the YouTube applications. Google Play does not load any icons and screen shots for any of the programs. It displays the default Android icon of all the programs and gives an error message and a RETRY button where the programs pictures should be. Pressing the retry button brings the network error again even though the network is just fine and I can browse the internet with the browser. And the YouTube application does not load any thumbnails of the videos. It just displays black rectangles. However Google Play can download and update any program and YouTube pays the selected video with no problems at all - just no thumbnails and icons. No problems browsing web pages in any browser whatsoever.
I would be grateful if anyone can think of a reason for these problems and point me in any direction on solving them.
Thanks again!
Edit: The problem with Google Play and YouTube appears to be an ISP issue, because with the same router and configuration, the problem is gone when I change the ISP WAN cable to the other ISP that I have available.Last edited by dv8; 15 November 2012, 14:55.

Strange thing is my Playstore app does work fine.
WiFi is working good to and although it does get slow from time to time, have found interference to be a major cause of this and its best to keep any USB drives/hardware as far away from the unit as possible.
