I didnt even have to get off my couch to download and run the update. You can just SSH into the stick and type "Reboot Recovery" without quotes and the stick will reset and flash the files from SD Card.

Also is it possible to open local console with crtl+alt+f3? On OE i386 I'd add 'debugging' to kernel boot line to enable local console. It is needed to kill/restart Kodi when it freezes on broken IPTV streams.

kkm It is not possible to open local console as we don't use X server. It's the same way on RPI: http://wiki.openelec.tv/index.php/Boot_Arguments. I'll evaluate if it's possible to add a writable cmdline.txt but it won't be possible to open an on-screen console. You have to restart Kodi over SSH.

kszaq i have to dissapoint you but sound problem is still same, i am now pretty shure that problem is in new amlogic kernel, for example in p8 there is cpu temp in system info and on p15,16,17 temp is not shown. back to p8. Anyway thx for trying.

override I've run into many playback issues with the newer kernel, I will revert to the more stable older one for the next release.

Now its only missing the shutdown button, but the option with countdown works.

miguelf I removed shutdown button from MK808B+ version as it would power down the box and in current state you would need to power-cycle it as there's no IR remote. I hope to make CEC wakeup working in powerdown at some point and then power off button would be back.

Things that i would like to see included in the future: the latest version of kodi, better memory card detection, scroll wheel working on the mouse, improve the speak delay when watching movies (this happens like 10% or 20% of the times with very specific type of streams), wifi improvements to get max speed, if possible.

First of all I need to make 5.0.8 more stable and then port improvements to 6.0 branch. It needs time and I have very little of it recently.

WiFi is as good as it gets, low speeds are hardware-related and there's not much that can be done to improve that. MK808B+ has weak WiFi, that's all. With the same driver and chip WiFi on MXQ works much better.

After reading a few post back I guess I have the same realtek wifi problems as djdean1, I'll wait and see if it gets figured out. For now if you need anything from my end I'm more then willing to help out.

pigbait This patch is for some kind of a Makefile used in Android build process, no use of it for us. I'd recommend to check if the 5.0.8-20150511 release works for you.

Just an update mate. flashed OpenELEC-Amlogic.MXQ.arm-5.95.1-20150518.tar and the wifi is working but the remote control isn't obviously because its an older upload without the remote.conf. takes around 40-50 seconds to boot into kodi but the wifi works so what ever driver is used in this build seems to work well with my box. here is the lsmod

djdean1 Thank you for your reports. I looked through Amlogic driver source code and there's no mention of 8189ETV. I'm glad to see that it works with the older kernel. I'll be reverting kernel for the next release and hopefully your WiFi will work.

ok i need some help.. my box is royally pissing me off lol .. so i was hoping openelec was a good choice for what im trying to do .. well it isnt.. i could never get the toothpick method to work on my ott tv box mxq s805.. im sooo stumped right now .. i cant get into recovery mode..
no matter what i do the toothpick method doesnt work for me..

is there another way to flash back to the original other than the toothpick method?

oh and hey .. thanks for the time.. its greatly appreciated

I just noticed that my Ethernet transfer speed is only around 10MB/s on my MK808B Plus using a gigabit Ethernet adapter. I just installed this rom (OpenELEC-Amlogic.MK808B.Plus.arm-5.0.8-20150511) a few days ago. Prior to this rom, I had been using the 5.0.3 for months, and I was getting speeds around 25 MB/s. This is the gigabit Ethernet adapter that I am using (Plugable Gigabit Ethernet LAN Wired Network Adapter (USB2-E1000)). Has anyone noticed their speeds using an Ethernet adapter??

pigbait It's good to hear that you got WiFi working. Can you tell whether your boxes were made by Nexteon, ENY, someone else? Can you also please upload a dmesg with WiFi working? I'd like to see what are the differences.

kamacnik1 You can either use a USB Hub or if you want to connect only 2 USB devices, connect one to full-sized USB port and the other one to OTG port using an adapter that came with the stick.

Yaniv73 I'm sorry, I had made install instructions disappear. I have updated the OP now. You'll also need to wait for me to upload an update if you want to use SD card installation or use a previous release for NAND install.

burimek I have updated FAQ with 2 methods you can use to get to the recovery when toothpick doesn't work. There was a bug in p16's bootloader that prevented toothpick method from working, now it's fixed. I deleted p16 and 5.0.8.17 installation files from the server due to bootloader bugs. A new version coming very soon.

clarkss12 As far as I remember, there were no changes to USB driver between these releases but there may have been other changes in Amlogic kernel release that affect your experience. You may want to try 5.0.8.18 I'm about to release quite soon or safely downgrade to 5.0.3 without wiping your data, providing you are using NAND install.
