    Awesome kszaq

I have just installed this update and its working great so far. I have a MXQ and I used the HD18Q 6.0.0.2 .tar update and I can see the performance difference I was expecting on this box, wonderfull update and thanks very much indeed.

I tried 6.0.0.2 SD version but it didn't boot up for me. It got as far as Kodi screen but I could see from the duration of the OpenElec screen that it was loading very slowly. In contrast I could boot 6.0.0.1 SD version without issue.

Can you describe the steps you've taken to update? The only reason I can think of is that you've copied .tar contents directly to SD card and haven't renamed KERNEL to kernel.img.

          Changelog:
          • bootloader is no longer flashed, so it's safe to try OpenELEC without the risk of bricking!
          • Mali drivers updated to r5p1
          • default CPU governor changed to interactive to boost performance
          • fixed colour key mappings over CEC

Good catch! I will re-build with interactive and update the release. Thank you!

            Edit: Updated builds uploaded.

Avi tearing seems to be sorted but strangely the Kodi main menu seems a bit juddery. Let you know if I notice anything else.

EDIT: Judder on Kodi menu seems slightly better after a couple of reboots, might just be me but I'm sure it was more fluid before. Boots really fast.

Another EDIT: Think the judder is just me!

I didn't update. I just downloaded the fresh .img.gz (the SD version file), extracted it as usual with WinRar and used Imagewriter to write it to SD. This process worked with 6.0.0.1 as I already have a bootloader in NAND thats capable of SD booting. I tried it twice incase something corrupted along the way but both times the same thing.

EDIT: Just checking if its an SD card issue as I just retried it with MXQ 6.0.0.2 (latest) and same thing, no boot past Kodi screen and then tried the HD18Q version on a *different* SD card which booted ! So either its just the MXQ version thats playing up or its the SD card. So now trying MXQ version on the SD card that allowed boot with HD18Q version......,OK so now both versions OK with my 1gb SD card. All I have to recheck now is to see if MXQ 6.0.0.1 will work again with my 2Gb SD card that doesn't work with 6.0.0.2........, OK 6.0.0.1 works with my 2Gb SD card...., now just to retry 6.0.0.2 again on the 2Gb SD card....., OK so, once again 6.0.0.2 not booting and this time its osciallating between Kodi screen and a blank blue bubbles screen. How odd so perhaps its my SD card but 6.0.0.1 works fine on it so it looks like something thats changed between 6.0.0.1 and 6.0.0.2. Hope this helps kszaq Also is there any way that the WiFi drivers for 8189es.ko could be incorporated into next MXQ build ? Currently it will connect on WiFi but that is all, data exchange does not work. Many thanks !

OK, some of you may have already figured this out: The video calibration is very important to getting the best video playback possible.

One thing I've noticed is that the square on the video calibration really can't be done by eye, you need to get a piece of paper and use this on the screen to get the square as perfect as possible. I also push the over-scan marks to just showing on the edge of the screen. I'll get back to you on this in more detail but I've manged to get many vids that had micro judder, which I thought was sloppy encoding, to play much smoother and certain files which had noticeable judder on pans are now almost perfect.

It also seems that the calibration has to be done for each refresh rate! I did have my TV on 'Just Scan' but I've changed it to 'original', I doubt this matters but getting the square, err, square really makes a big difference to video quality.

The update is what inspired me to do some tweaking as video playback does seem improved but with correct calibration it's almost perfect. Nice one K!

The tearing is gone on the UI. Looks good. The animations do look a bit sluggish though.

                      lo

i have some mxq hd18q v1.4 units here

openelec installs fine but i have the following issues

                      no wifi option?

also if the box is left powered down for 24 hrs then it will not boot just a blue light, if i create a sd card with bootcardmaker with a u.boot.bin file and plug that into the unit, then power up unit boots fine?

i have included a picture of android firmware deets which come pre installed on the boxes

jed The 8189es.ko module is already built in - that's why you can connect over WiFi. I don't know why there is no traffic. I ordered a HD18Q a few days ago and if it comes with Relatek WiFi, I might be able to fix that issue.

Mudda_funkA For bootup issue, you can try flashing factory firmware and then flash 6.0.0.2 as it leaves factory bootloader in place.

Today install OpenELEC-Amlogic.HD18Q.arm-6.0.0.2.tar through the Update folder. Does not work. Appears Openelek piсture. Kodi is not loaded.
Then I install on NAND OpenELEC-Amlogic.HD18Q.arm-6.0.0.2.zip. It all works. But the obvious differences of 5.95.5.2 do not see. How to check - whether the mode Ondemand working?

kszaq Thanks for the new OpenELEC releases and it is great to see you back.

@everyone Has anyone had success with any type of DVB-T tuner with the later OpenELEC releases?

The IT9135 tuners I have appear to be correctly detected during boot and are detected in TVHeadend, but unfortunately when trying to play Live TV there is a huge amount of stuttering and tearing, with the audio all over the place.

The DiB0700 based tuner I have is the same, being correctly detected, but nearly all muxes fail resulting in no usable channels.

The Odroid C1 forums (http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=114&t=16093) seem to suggest they don't have this problem anymore, but wrxtasy doesn't appear to make the source for his releases available to try and see what he/others might have done.

Pravsovet In 6.0.0.2 default CPU governor is interactive and not ondemand. You can tell if it's working in Kodi System Info page or by displaying debugging information during playback ('o' on a keyboard). I may have to look into the update issue. Were you trying to update NAND or SD version?

Dez Unfortunately there are some big issues with both DVB and USB drivers with the kernel we have. Some time ago I borrowed an IT9135 from a friend and tried to fix it by tweaking drivers but with no success. Actually the source code for CrashOverride's backport is avaliable: http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=112&t=17929 I will put that on my TODO list for next releases. I will also ask Wrxtasy for his kernel source code.

kszaq That's excellent, and thanks for the link. I didn't know CrashOverride had that source code available.
