    I've got a second hand UG802.

    The info screen says:
    - Android 4.1.1
    - Kernel 3.0.8+
    - Build Number
    RK30_ANDROID4.1.1-SDK-v1.00.1015
    rk30sdk-eng 4.1.1 JRO03H eng.ant.20121025.095326

Everything works well with stock ROM, anyway I'd like to install Finless ROM 1.7 but I'm a little bit worried about the problems with wi-fi on some version of the mini-pc.

I've tried to open it to check the PCB but I wasn't able to do it (...), so I cannot check which version I own.

Could someone figure out the UG802 version from the info or, if it is not possible, how to open the case without break it?

    Thank you all!
    Roberto

Just today I received my new UG802 from DX (ordered a new unit as the last one is broken beyond repair; bad built quality!).
The version is the same, printed on the PCB: T002 V2 20121207

Pictures taken with mobile phone, so limited quality.

The quality is quite different this time. There is some ESD protection at the HDMI connector which were missing in the first DX-stick I got. Will try it later when I'm back home and then of course give it a good flash full of Finless 1.7

      Additional thoughts:
I think there is this V2 version out there, but the difference should be unnoticable. The quality control failed totally on a batch of these UG802 units though, it seems. This stick looks quite the same, but more components are actually soldered on the PCB. I hope that this already helps for Finless 1.7 working correctly with it. Will report later on.

Jeez, that was a horrible start. I didn't find a one-click-solution to do a firmware backup, so I risked flashing Finless 1.7 directly. After flashing, I plugged the Dongle into a powersupply from my former, broken Android-stick. Booting went fine, login worked ... but wifi wouldn't work, I couldn't enable it. Booted more often, after a few retries - voila, Wifi! Did some settings, wanted to reboot again - Wifi gone again.
At this point I wanted to see how stock firmware behaves, so I plugged the stick into the netbook it booted up just fine - and had wifi again. Damn! Flashed only the linux recovery kernel so I could test my Picuntu as well. After flashing, plugging into the power supply again: No wifi. Also missing in Picuntu.

Fetched the new cable and power supply delivered with the new stick, and guess what. The stick booted up significantly faster and immediatly had Wifi! Picuntu had to be reconfigured as the new MAC address made the interface appear as wlan2. It's doing apt-get update now ... just up to 1.2MByte/s, but that can be normal at this hour in our region here (in low-traffic times I get full 16 MBit/1,8MByte/s.)

So make sure to use a proper power supply. It not just helps booting faster, but also enables wifi.

I am starting to determine that even if supplied a 2 amp power supply, these cheap ass units have so much NOISE coming from them, they are effecting both performance and wifi/BT receivers!

So it's not just AMPs folks. I think these cheap units are just too damn noisy! Alas this means investing in a good power supply.

            My reccomendation:
3 Amp Switching Power supply not a cheap wall wart! Yes this can cost you upwards of $20.

I have the same PCB as shown in Koepi's pics (even the same NAND, and ram chips) and finless 1.7 is running flawlessly. Everything works ! I used the stock power supply and am having no issues - however, now that you mention it, I was getting some wierd behavior from my wireless keybd once or twice, and my wifi will ocasionally drop (I noticed it go down 2x in about 10hrs of use)....

I guess an easy fix for this is to get yourself a longer USB cable and keep the power source away from your dongle ?

In the contrary, I would suggest a short cable. With short cable, it seems to work better here. A longer cable means more resistance and bigger power drop.

If I understood finless' last post, he is saying that the problem may be coming from the radio interference coming from the PSU - in which case keeping as far away from the device as possible might help the situation.

That's all theory. The longer cable makes it an antenna sending in different bands than with shorter cable. Maybe just using a properly shielded cable would work out

so from what i'm reading, no sure bet 1.7 finless rom yet for our V2 UG802's. right?

Works flawless with my V2 - make sure to read the version number printed on the PCB: T002 V2 20121207 is safe to use. Just make sure that the power supply works properly.

Yeah, i had no luck with my v2. I flashed, used the proper power supply at full length with included cable. Nothing brought my wifi back except stock rom.

Im sure Finless will have a version 100% compatible with V2 one day. perhaps 1.8

What kernel did you choose? I used the 1200mhz 1080p kernel...

The version that Koepi and I have seems to have been named something like : V1 revision 2 (i think). V2 (the one that often has the reset button) is known to not work with wifi.

                                Hi Guys,

Nice to see there is so much interest for the Ug802/UG007

I recieved my UG802 2 (Bleutooth/Wifi Android 4.1). It has no reset buttons. The PCB is bleu.
                                The versions says:
                                UG007 20121012 V1012

Is it possible to instal Finless 1.7 or should i go for the Imito rom? I would like to keep al functions and get a better Wifi Signal.
                                Thanx in advance

                                Cheers,
                                Guido
