It 'worked' but very unreliably after about a week. At first it looked fine, but after a while it started scanning constantly for my AP and often never connected.. about 50% of the time you could reboot and get it to connect but then it would lose connection after a few mins. Pretty sure this issue isn't related to what ROM you run.

Sadly I don't have a good power supply alternative. The alternate one I have seems to cause the device to die when doing heavy duty work (running the 3D test in Antutu will do it 50% of the time) and I'm not even sure its the PSU and not due to overheating. The Device just powers off and waits for me to pull plug and reconnect.

If anyone can recommend a cheap PSU, it would be helpful.

      Solved Power Supply Problem

I was having recurring problems with my new UG802 V2(?) since new. A weak wireless signal was solved by moving the antenna external to the case. Other problems were hard to trace - cursor not moving/reacting, unable to go forward or backwards in an app, etc. I was thinking I might have a bad unit. Most of the time I would have to unpower the unit; sometimes I would have to wait a bit to power it back on. I had already installed a heatsink on the CPU, and nothing was getting hot. Hummmm?

I was using an extension cord because the the stock power cord was not long enough. This meant the power supply was resting on carpet. It seemed to get warm, but not hot. Out of curiosity, I rerouted the power supply so it could plug directly into the wall socket. Problem solved! I checked the extension cord, and it was fine. So the power supply must of been heating up just enough to cause occasional problems. Consider this if you are having similar problems.

The PSU is sh...t quality Specially when you live in a flat, and the electric system already has a lot of interference. I will try to find some solution. I will update on monday if I wont forget.

The 2.4GHz wireless mouse and keyboard can cause WiFi problems also. I changed the **** 2$ USB HUB to one better (locally purchased for 5$), and I plugged one USB extension cable to the UG802, and the HUB and the receiver is 1 meter far from the unit now. WiFi is working perfectly now

Ferrite filter can be also useful! I use one at the end of the PSU cable, at the Micro USB connector.

What I have is UG802 v2, with Reset button, firmware dated 11/19/2012, labeled QL20 12.43 and MiniTv Box SW601_V0.1 20121018, builtin wifi REALTEK RTL8188EUS, no BT

Purchased in HK, quality of PCB is GOOD, no problems so far.

Wifi works with ROM posted by Finless in #3 which identical to what I had in the beginning and still have on the 2nd stick (I bought 2)

With other ROMs wifi does not work.

Now I have a problem is with 2dark4u Linux kernel burned as recovery.img
Linux boots, but refuses to find built-in wifi. It also refues to load driver for external wifi stick based on RTL8188CUS, although in latter case it lists the device in usb-devices and lsusb as Vendor 0846, ProdID=9041, Rev 2.00

ifconfig still shows only lo (loopback)

          Any ideas what to do?

            Hi.

I think my UG802 v2 (the one with the reset button hidden under the case) is dead now.

When I received it and plugged to the TV it didn't work, so I connected it to my laptop and installed (not knowing then that there were different versions of this item) a ROM for UG802 v1. Then on my TV it worked fine, but I lost wifi (as it was said many times in this thread).

So I got back to the laptop and installed a UG802 v2 ROM (the one in the third message of this thread). This one made wifi work fine, but the system got blocked after a short time connected in the TV (sometimes it froze while the OS was charging, sometimes after a couple of minutes).

So I tried to install the other ROM for v2 published here (the one in the Dropbox account). But when I was doing so, I got an error and now I can't get to do anything with it.

When I connect it to my TV, it doesn't work (I guess Android is not properly installed), and when I connect it to my laptop (the USB connection by pressing the reset button keeps working fine) I have to options:

1.- Try to use Rockchip Batch Tool (this worked properly before this issue, when I connected it the first square of the program turned green and then I could install an image from there). The square now turns blue instead of green. And when I try to install an image I get this error message: "Download boot fail"

2.-Try to use Finless ROM Flash Tool. The program gets signal from the device: "Found RKAndroid MaskRom Rock USB", but I don't get to do anything. If I try to "Reboot to flash mode" I get a "Device can not do flash mode, because it is not msc device" (it never worked actually). If I try to Erase NAND I get this message: "Erasing IDB Failed". And if I try to Flash ROM then I get "Error: Download boot failed" and "Error: Run failed".

So I'm stuck and I think there's no return to the previous state. If someone happens to know a way out of here I would very much appreciate it.

              Hi everybody!

I'm a bit confused about UG802 Finless ROMs over this site, could you help me a bit? I definitely got a UG802 V2 (reset button) and I want to get rid of my audio sync problem (0.25 s delay). Is there any other way than installing a new ROM (preferable Finless)? If not, please tell me which ROM is the one for me? Finless said in the 'NEW - UG802 Finless 1.8 Custom ROM - BETA' topic that I had to install a Measy UG2 ROM on my UG802 V2. I did some search, but I could not find a ROM named Measy UG2.
What am I missing? Has anyone succeeded installing it?

              Thanks in advance!

              UPDATE:
cotro - try change USB ports on your computer, or USB cable. That did helped me.

I tried to update my UG802 (v2) to 1.8 but I still don't have WiFi. What did you do to get your devices up and running?

Thanks for the advice, but it didn't work. I have 2 USB 2.0 ports in my computer, and in both I get the same problem. I also have a 3.0 USB port, but connecting to that I don't even get the laptop to get the signal from the device right.

I also tried to use different cables - no good.

So I'm stuck with the same problem. I quote it again, in case someone comes up with a solution.

                Thanks!

Try this fix to the flash tool and see if it helps on a 3.0 port.

No, it didn't work for my 3.0 USB port.

Anyway, I have 2.0 USB ports available, which recognize de device properly. My problem comes when I try to install a new ROM on top of the failed installation made before (I guess).

                    Thanks anyway.

                        Rooting without flashing

                        Hi Friends.

Thanks to Bob / 2dark / and all the members that contribute here.

                        I have the UG802? with:

                        Board text:
                        MiniTV Box SW601_V0.1

                        WIFI Chip:
                        Realtek chip 8188

                        Kernel:
                        3.0.8+ root@server #100
SMP PREEMPT Sat Dec 8 21:24:18 CST 2012

                        Compilation number:
                        RK30_ANDRDOID4.1.1-SDK-v1.00.1015
                        rk30sdk-eng 4.1.1 JRO03H eng.box.20121208.221744 test-keys

I Had Bought that one with Android 4.0 but the seller sent me a box with Android 4.1.

The antenna mod works pretty good, thanks Bob.

I get this message in terminal emulator "su: uid 10600 not alowed to su"... There is a way to get root without flashing the box?

Already read about Superoneclick method but looks like it can damage the device with Android 4.1.1.

Thanks! and sorry for my english.

                          Those who have PCB:
                          MiniTV Box SW601_V0.1
                          20121018
and not working WiFi should recompile Realtek WiFi driver from official site.
This fixed WiFi issue in my case with picuntu 0.9 RC2.2.
I think it also will fix issue in android.
A little bit more info here.
