Hi Finless:

The latest rom for the Inquirer 10G2 Arnova tablet might be worth looking at as a base for rooting; its fixed the SD card infinite loop mount/dismount bug that I suspect was the cause of poor battery life for some people. (when the bug happened, the tablet didn't turn off, and spent its time mounting and dismounting the SD card and rescanning for media files until the battery was dead). Before the new Inq rom it happened to me every couple of days; since I flashed their new version it hasn't happened once.

Andy, if you lose them somehow, let me know and I'll send them along. I've been running Finless 1.4 on my PMN tablet for several weeks now without a hitch (and with more than 600 megabytes free for apps instead of the 30 megs I had left before I rooted).

I used Total Commander to copy what I wanted out of \system\apps before rooting. I also pulled my sd card before I did it. Note that my first tablet had bad memory and when I flashed it, it was bricked. This is a replacement tab and works fine. There were other indications that my first tablet was bad (apps frequently hanging, etc.) which suggested bad memory.

One thing you should note is that Bob's ROM uses some of the 4g on board memory to expand ROMspace. Since I never used this space, this is a good thing. If you have something in that "internal drive" you want saved, copy it to the sd before you remove the sd card.

Interesting. Just took the official "philly" ROM apart from the Arnova site. The kernel is different!
I wish Arnova would have read me's for what has changed.

They may have fixed some other bugs over and above the stock 10G2 ROM.

So I am going to cook one up and see what it looks like!
Then see if the philly kernel will work on standard 10G2.

From an average user's perspective, the only thing different with the Philly Tablet ROM was the apps - the three newspaper apps and a ton of bloatware. I've been much happier with your ROMs.

Yes now that I have flashed the stock philly ROM I see the bloatware. Most of it is just WEB links on the desktop. Another interesting app though is the link to Adobe for FLASH settings.

However the kernel is different! It is larger than the stock 10G2. Kernel wont have bloatware in it but may have other fixes. I am playing with it now.

The idea being that maybe the kernel from this philly ROM will be better than the stock 10G2 kernel since it is newer (I think).

But stupid Arnova did not even update the kernel version in build.prop!!!! They are the same
Philly ROM kernal version is: 2.6.32.27
Stock 10 G2 kerenel version is: 2.6.32.27
Stock 10 g2 kernal file size = 4,960 KB
Philly ROM kernel file size = 5,200 KB

Again Arnova needs to document whats in the updates!!!! Sheesh so we do not even know whats in this kernel but it is a larger file size than the stock kernel.

What I will do is make a 10G2 ROM using the philly kernel and see whats up.

But also does anyone want a 1.4 finless philly ROM with all the philly stuff left in?

Interesting. While they did not change the kernel version, they did change the build number

Philly build number = 20111223.173108
Build date: Fri Dec 23 17:32:38 CST 2011

So makes me wonder about amny things

It will be a rooted 1.4 of the stock ROM. No time to debloat right now.

As for the boot screen... thats not happening.
But for you we will make sure we add 17 more plugs

The boot screen signifies my work and support of this web site, and I am proud of it. It also keeps undesirables from ripping off my stuff easily (which as you know has already happened once) unless they know what they are doing. I am teaching people that desire to cook how to take apart a ROM in another post. My suggestion is to not worry about a stupid boot screen and if it bothers you that much, learn to do it yourself.
Honestly too much time has already been wasted on this stupid conversation already.
