Most of the current generation seem to be quite decent and Cenovo comes up as a popular local box.

Therein lies the problem.
What Rockchip, AMlogic, Allwinner etc should do is different from what they actually do and they have been pushing out SOC's long enough now to know the issues that continually exist from one to the other.
Android too is still an OS devoid of too many features of Windows.
Plug in a peripheral into Windows and it is far more likely to work out of the box or a driver will be available.
Plug many things into Android and you will all too often find that there is no driver support.
If it were not for the likes of Wasser and other devs then so many of these boxes would be dead in the water very quickly.

I have tried 3.0.5 and 3.0.4a but will have to stick with 3.0.3
Here are the reasons.
3.0.4a refuses to play 10 bit videos from the get go (they play buth with a distorted greenish image and nothing I do can fix it, this happens on other firmwares but normally when the the video loses focus, e.g. when using multi-window and you focus on a new different window, but returning to the video it clears up).
3.0.5 I had tried it once before but had given up for two reasons. One is micro-stutters. I could live with the video stutters but unfortunately my AV receiver is old and if the audio cuts off even for a micro-second it takes a couple of seconds to get back, this makes it impossible to view videos really.
The other reason I had given it up was a similar 10bit video glitch as to 3.0.4. It had worked originally but then it glitched and refused to get working again.
I recentlly tried 3.0.5 again but the micro-stutters were still unbearable.
I am using an "old" vizio 1080p LCD tv so the 10bit video glitch is not the same one that the 4K tv user mentioned.
Also on 3.0.5 the bottom third of the screen would occasionally glitch.
3.0.3 works quite well... except it gets bogged down with extended use but at least I can live with that.
Thanks for all your hard work Wasser =)
Oh, I am using a Beeling R89 U-box.

What apps do you see the micro stutters in and how is your audio setup?

Its not hardware drivers its getting rockchip to produce the code and provide proper support for hardware they provide... Its not an issue of adding hardware its getting video to work as stated. Its a cost thats why they refuse as well as thier policy for the gpu. Hopefully that intel involved now that will change. As far as Developers i know nothing would work without thier hard work and fixes. I have Android devices that work fine but they paid to have system working to the api and dts and dd works perfectly. Many devices now mk902ii/Shield/Mk68 /Ugoos/neox5/minix5 (yes they still work lol) mk80 no it doesnt work lol.

I spent last week trying to update my Orion R28 Pro pcb v2.0 to any of Wasser's stable ROMs, but with no success, just getting a nice boot logo.
Here's the full list of some ROMs which fail to boot:
Wasser's stable ROMs 3.0.1, 3.0.2, 3.0.3, 3.0.4 and 3.0.5 (1st page in this thread).
UT3_3.0.4_patch wasser 3.0.3 (http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showt...#entry46661344)
Ugoos Stage, Stage 2 and Stage 3 (http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showt...#entry41949167)
I know there are reports that some ROMs just don't boot on some hardware versions. But 0 out of 7, including all Wasser's stable ROMs makes me think I miss something. Is there a trick, tip or something?
By the way, all Wasser's ROMs up tp RC4 boot fine.
Now I run Beelink R89 112k4111 (http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-...or-beelink-r89)

I own a transmart R28.
I had 3.0.3 for past months and it was great. My only problems were that I were that youtube would frezze sometimes and also I was unable to play a Bluray ISO in Kodi. I get the audio but just black screen. Before this device i had a Minix X7 and it worked no problem with a Wasser ROM.
A few days ago I upgraded my router and since then I started to get randomly disconnected from my 5GHZ wifi. I then saw that a 3.0.5 is available so decided to upgrade, but it will not boot after I write the .img . I tried multiple times also with erasing the IDB. I even re-downloaded the ROM to make sure I have a good file but nothing.
I then decided to go ahead and try 3.0.4 and worked no problem. Either the 3.0.5 rom file is corrupt, or my tronsmart box is a different revision.
Now with 3.0.4 wifi will disconnect even more often, or not work at all (I switched to wire), and by bluray ISO still does not work.
Waiting a 3.0.6 now

The ROM is fine, so you can rule that out.
Have you tried flashing with the Factory tool rather than the Android tool?
