A standard HDMI Cable will support up to 1080i and 720p.

But if 1080p was being shown then that would show the presence of a High Speed HDMI Cable.

HDMI cables tend to work at all or not, so I'm curious as to how a bad cable can be responsible for only showing a maximum of 1080p if the applications can output at 4k.

The one potential 1080p element will be a general firmware interface, which are typically 720p or 1080p.

Most probably was the version of HDMI cable.
If it was 1.4a then it could only output 1080p but if he changed it with 1.4b or 2.0 then 4k was enabled.

I'm afraid that there is not such thing as a 1.4a, 1.4b or 2.0 cable.

The HDMI number specification is for the device port, not the cable.

Cables generally come in 4 varieties.

Standard and Standard with Ethernet - Which supports up to 720p or 1080i

High speed and High speed with Ethernet, which supports 1080p and 4K.

There are other varieties but from a consumer perspective, just the 4 that you will find sold by the average vendor.

The number system is often used to describe cables by vendors who do not have full understanding or to make it sound as though they have a wide range, which enables them to hike up the prices for many consumers that are not aware of the real choices available and how little they need to spend.

Not only for the device port.
It is also symbolize the bandwidth that they support so this is translated to the resolution and audio futures.

But not in terms of the numbering system being used in the direct identification.labelling of the cables.

I see way too many vendors selling 1.4b and 2.0 cables, selling one for way more than the other, when both are exactly the same.

It's one of the great HDMI cons and so many people have paid high prices for something they could have got for a 10th of the price.

                  They are not the same...

The 1.4b support 4096×2160 at 24 Hz or 3840×2160 (Ultra HD) at 24 Hz/25 Hz/30 Hz; adds an HDMI Ethernet Channel (HEC), which allows for a 100 Mbit/s Ethernet connection between the two HDMI connected devices so they can share an Internet connection;[43] and introduces an audio return channel (ARC)

The 2.0 supports 4096×2160 video at 60 fps. Other features of HDMI 2.0 include support of the Rec. 2020 color space, up to 32 audio channels, up to 1536 kHz audio sample frequency, dual video streams to multiple users on the same screen, up to four audio streams, 4:2:0 chroma subsampling Also increases the maximum TMDS per channel throughput from 3.4 Gbit/s to 6 Gbit/s which allows for a maximum total TMDS throughput of 18 Gbit/s. Also HDMI 2.0 supports HDR while 1.4b does not.

The above were tested in a PC with nvidia GTX 1080 which has HDMI 2.0b output and it was connected to Yamaha RXV781 receiver.
Before purchasing the 2.0a cable the maximun resolution was 4K @ 24p with 4.0.2.
After the change of cable to 2.0a the resolution was changed to 4K @ 60p with 4.4.4.

Its was the cable I use a hige speed with ethernet from Philips now but I still experience strange hdmi switching problems it switches back and forth to 1080 and 4k .

                    4 k just aind working proper. .
My tv is a 2015 hige end moddel the tx 50 cx 800 hdmi 2.0 4.4.4 it can not be my tv I think this firmware has a 4k bug.

You need to use newer Marshmallow firmware since there were lots of problems in the early MM firmwares that got fixed by RK at the end of last year.
Unfortunately no one is working on newer RK3288 MM firmware at the moment I think.
Lollipop firmware should fix the problem too and you can try that.

                        Hello guys!

Question, from the beginning till i think the end...I have problem with a stable spdif connection.
I tried so many things, and tried many roms...I had two good experiences with a good spdif connection.1 from wasser, what was only old and updated. And 1 from developer mo123..The one from mo123 worked really good, never any dropout..System god only instable so i had to update it...After that..Same thing..
Yes, i have an nice amp, but its still spdif and no HDMI...Unfortunately..
So to listen music, where i bought it for...Is uhm not really working...Now i have also dropouts in ftmc in the last rom of mo123 for my r89 beelink box, with movies...Before that, any app and any movie always worked with spdif sound, while at the same time music always dropped out...Yes, many music apps, and many kodis....
Hardware, uhm i dont think so...Why movies and no music sound with spdif, looks like an process in the background....
Some days, it works for hours, most off the time i close all the apps, i had the idea that the original file explorer did something with the sound....

I am reading a lot of other forums to see if there is maybe something what can change this, i read about google voice and google apps, but no acces too the apps and what to do with them..As described they messed also the spdif connection up.....

So i thought lets try another wasser rom....As for me......The spdif sound must work, i am not really busy with all the display settings and sound settings in kodi or ftmc....My experience is, as spdif works, kodi or ftmc always passtrue everything i need.

I read apost from ''decava'' where he discrebed a good connection with version: (4.0.11)...Is that the best solution to try...?
Btw, my cooling fan in my box runs really nice, cant get it over 56degrees with asphalt 8...Now only the sound lol..So if its oced, no problemo..

                        Thanks

Installed 4.0.11...Dts, and youtube worked.used the rkmc to play the vid..Tomorrow gone install kodi or ftmc..Have to read what is better..Fingers crossed..Nice rom, will also check the wifi..Anyway a thanks to Wasser 4 the rom.

Easy fix change the remote.conf file in system/ect to your devices. Or look in remote section for one thats like yours and use that..
Many devices now mk902ii/Shield/Mk68 /Ugoos/neox5/minix5 (yes they still work lol) mk80 no it doesnt work lol.

Is this on a Beelink R89 or another box with the same kind of specs?
