Mine is fairly stable OOB, sometimes you get the "app stopped responding". One time it needed a power cycle.
After improving the thermal paste it does seem a little faster and stable overall.
If yours is fairly stable too that might be an indication that it could work (notice: might and could...)

Got Heat Problems ?
1. Use a better glue. The std. glue can be applied too thickly and is not the best thermally anyway (my guess)
Arctic Silver Epoxy is the best - Close second is the Aluminium version - Note this is PERMANENT Glue.
I used small bead in the centre and this is spread thinly by pressure. I used a 2.75Kg mass.
+ 2. Use a better Heatsink - a 22x22x10mm fits easily and costs buttons ont Bay
Or + 3. Taller HS adds a bit of an extra Air-Gap

4x small JIS Cross Head screws are revealed.
Unscrew with sufficient pressure to stop the screwdriver camming out if not using JIS driver.
Lid pops off, no clips.

So I received my box from gearb and the firmware it came with was 0815. There is a reset button.
The box hasn't froze up on me but it seems quite buggy. I have a logitech mouse connected to it, and the mouse cursor is restricted to the top left quarter of the screen. After a while, the overlayed settings menu on the right becomes quite sluggish. Youtube (playstore version) came preinstalled, but it is not listed in the app drawer, only the settings app list, so I can't add a shortcut.
Am I safe to update to firmware 0919, which as I understand it is the latest firmware for this box?
When updating it with USB Burning Tool is it similar to the Mini M8S II and that you load the firmware, press start, press and hold the reset button and plug the box in via USB? If so, does it matter which USB port?
Any help would be appreciated.
EDIT: I took the risk and just went ahead and updated the box (I know I should have probably taken it apart to check the emmc etc.) but I lucked out and it flashed no problem.
The box seems snappier so far but I just installed it.
The only issue I have with this firmware is they seemed to have removed the option to show the status bar. Is there anyway to get that back with this firmware?
edit2: Also annoying is the sound sliders are linked to each other. I can't set the media volume to max and other volumes low like I usually do.Last edited by rahzel; 26 October 2017, 21:40.
