i just received my order from G**rbest and found out that the chip is sec 728 , using stock firmware and running for around 5 hours i donot found any unusual prob. , hoping they resolve the problem with the chip. Still uncertain to flash with Magendaz ROM.

Hi, i think i just got a faulty box. I am going to to stress it so i could see how it perfoms under heavy usage. Any suggestions to do this? Maybe playing continuosly a 4K movie?

I was expecting to use it with Magendaz ATV Rom, but i think i am going to keep it with the original firmware and i wont be updating it.

This is my firmware and my MMC memory module.

can you tell me which is the reset button? Is one that is below the chasis?

I have pressed it and it doesnt do anything

Sad to say your box is in the potentially BAD class.

Reset button faces the front of the box, just visible top right in your photo by the SEC chip.

Just moving about the launcher or running a YouTube vid or a few may be enough to cause a tell tale freeze.

If you want to prove BAD you have to use the installed Update app to load an OEM firmware zip that is provided by a supplier as an official download.

If this bricks the box then you know and can ask for a replacement or refund.

You can look back and see the link to a page of the available OTA FW that are archived on Freaktab. On my phone so I can't look for you.

SEC 728 not in the Warn Batch.
If you don't have FW 0829 then you should be OK.

Do I have to say it again ? Do an approved FW update to test flashability before any that may invalidate warranty - Always !

Thanks, now i know which one is. Now i am booting with LibreElec. It is a shame that i am better not touching the Android ROM. I think i am going to stay with the factory OEM and play around with Libreelec until they update to Kodi 18 so i could test the Netflix Add On and see if Libreelec, running from the MicroSD, recognizes the Widewine suppport this Android TV Box has.

I have read Geekbuying's Terms for Warranty, Refund and they are awful, they dont honor to any request for a refund or partial refund unless you send the produc back to them. I think i am going to buy from another page next time

I can confirm that the Mygica T230c works great with Mecool M8S Pro+ in LibreElec in kszaq's build using gxl_p212_2g.dtb. Just install TVHeadends server and client from the official KODI repo and setup TVHeadend from the WEBUI and you are good to go. Even DVB-T2 HD channels work great. All this with "bad patch" box.

Yes, I'd say if the old 20170919.150557.V0619 firmware that was posted on 9/27 didn't work for you, this one won't too. I've diffed the two, and the partitions are identical. The only difference is with the uboot binaries (aml_sdc_burn.UBOOT, DDR.USB, UBOOT.USB).

I'm not sure what "missing files" the GeekBuying guys are referring to. Checksums don't lie (or only lie one in 2^256 times).

This sounds nfg, but in theory could there be something in the uboot binaries that messes these boxes up? I will give this new FW a go, when I get my box back in about a week. I will post the logs from it. It would be great if we could figure out what the issue is. I would like to test your ATV build. I have heard good things about it. I will gladly test some firmware and log the boot, if you or anyone else, needs some testing done with their builds for this box.

To be fair, that might be the letter of the warranty, but GearB said don't bother sending back and gave a refund/exchange anyway.

There's an app called Stress CPU, it stresses all CPU cores and shows temperature. Very useful.
Testing 4K will stress the GPU, so that's good. Additionally you could try a 3D game (don't know which one) or something like 3Dmark or geekbench or so.

At the moment, i am just trying the stock Android. I already have a Mi Box, so the ATV ROM is not a must, however, it would have been a big plus. Since Libreelec works fine and i have got the reset button, i think i am safisfied 50%. That would still be a 2.5/5, but lets see how Geekbuying answers my petition for a partial refund.

Bad Remote not Bad Box ?

If you are suffering the seemingly random Crash-to-Standby issue it is not random.
Thanks to Clarkss12 & Pijo who discovered and confirmed it is caused by use of the Left-Button on remote.

From further testing with a second remote control unit I can confirm (sample of 2) it is caused by a faulty remote control - The left button on affected remote sometimes misses a Left-Command and sometimes sends 2 or 3 at once. Sometimes instead of going left the box receives a Standby signal and shuts down. A second remote does not do this behaviour (no misses/doubles/SB).
I tested with new batteries and older rechargeables at lower voltage with the same results - only one remote exhibits this aberrant behaviour.
