Mecool M8S PRO L 4K TV Box Amlogic S912 Bluetooth 4.1 + HS

Hi everyone

Considering buying this box but a little concerned about root.
My main pay TV app is said not to run on rooted/unlocked devices (though not sure exactly what they check or consider a root - (maybe SafetyNet??) but even if you install apk it will not play video content).

From what I read here, this box comes pre-rooted from factory - can anyone confirm?
Is there any way to unroot it?

Or are any of the ROMs/Firmwares posted here are without root or can be unrooted?

While I'm waiting for mine to arrive, am I right in thinking these boxes don't have any ventilation holes in the top cover? It doesn't look like it.

If so, no wonder they are getting hot. Think I'll take a drill to mine before it gets a chance to fry itself!

You are correct, no holes in the top. Use a number 54 drill and drill in the valleys of the top. I made a video on how to set it up to drill the holes.

I thought the bigger HS was making a bigger difference than it did with propper extended testing. Not enough air getting through. Lifting the lid a few mm helps a bit more, but std. HS and a little 30mm Pi fan works best - Needs air holes of course but only costs about £1 ($1.40) so well worth it.

I'll get my mate to post the 2 part "How to remove the HS" video ....

Yes, that is I, that made that video. Wish I had seen your video on removing the heat sink, before I used a pry bar on mine. I killed mine, ordered another one. This time I will only drill holes in the lid.

I think the pry bar may be a step too far

Yes, more air is the way to go - as much as possible - The L runs way hotter than the +

The screws for the lid allow for at least a couple of mm lift to get a gap all round too - just need 4 little bits of rubber (or ?) to wedge up the corners.

Neat work with the holes and lots more vids to watch now. Keep up the good work with the vids and the TV Box collecting hobby

Just FYI, I now have Stock & Nano (non-ATV) Nexus custom ROMs for this device, and I've rebuilt the TVStock (ATV) custom ROM on the V0928 OEM firmware.
