But why this box runs hot and the Pro not? Same processor - same casing and as far as i can notice from the pictures, same heat sink.

I id a Google and couldn't find any. They all talking about freezing during boot, or when Kodi start up, but no over heating reports.

If you have some links would be appreciated.

That are the ones I found also, but most of them are about other boxes, and the 2 videos that mention overheating don't actually say or proof anything in the video or comments.

I doubt it over heats when booting, as that is what both videos are about.

All the other results are about boxes that over heat, but not specific M8S Pro. An M8 box is a different box.

Let us know how the replacement works (I think you were getting an L again)

I have the Pro also, when I first received it, I was amazed how hot it "felt" to the touch. But after awhile it cooled down. I am using it for my Tvheadend, and Emby servers, running on LibreELEC. I could run test if necessary.

Yes, it is supposed to arrive today, but not holding my breath......... hahaha. I will test the temp, and then drill holes in the top of the box, if it is still running 200 degrees F.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I will run Kodi on Android, so if you could run any stream in Kodi for an hour and check with CPU temp app that would be wonderful.

I know it will run cooler on LibreElec, but I use several apps as well, and that isn't possible then.

Just cranked up my "Pro", running my BlueRay rip of Avatar on Kodi. Box connected directly to HDMI input on my 4k TV. Temp. showing 170 degrees Fahrenheit at the start of the video. Will update this message in about an hour.
                        Running Magendanz's ATV mod.

Edit: been about 15 minutes and temp reading 186 F. Ambient temp is approximately 73F.

Edit 2: After half an hour, temp showing 190F.

                        Edit 3: After 45 minutes, hitting 194F >> 90 degrees Celsius.

Media being played, if that matters.

Thanks for the test and results.

Unless you place it on top of your amplifier, that is indeed an incredible temperature, and I'm surprised that there aren't more reports about it on this forum.

If it runs that hot I'll have to give it a miss, but I wonder which box to get, because everything I received in the past 6 months runs over 80°C.

I noticed you were also active in a thread on the LibreElec forum, and see those guys post that their boxes run 40°C, which I can not believe.

Do you need octacore ? If not: The pro+ is great. Runs cooler.
Bluetooth doesn't work with my Rii so no advantage for me really.

I don't really need octa core, but I fancy the extra ram, and only the S912 has that option.
