The particular sample of a 55C switch I have now would work as a protection for absolute over temp fan switching, which may be what some prefer.
I want to get the fan on earlier so that the CPU is as unstressed as possible - but, not on when idling or doing low intensity stuff.
    We shall see ...

      Yes.
Power to the box is power to the UART 3.3V Pin.
That is why we have moved to using 5V USB power with resistors.

You could use the UART 3.3V with a KSD9700, but that is more expense (resistor is about 10-20p / 20cent)
      Depends on personal preferences ...

ok on the 5V it will turn only when box is power on and stop when power off and plugged ?

What's the value of the resistor you have put on it ?

Please read back through this thread for specifics.
You have to choose resistor based on Fan resistance and desired voltage.

KSD970 - In-situ testing using thermal paste - Quick results for my test samples

              KSD9700 NO
              40C - Tested Closes at 41.2C
              45C - Tested Closes at 47.5C

45C - Installed in Pro L with std. Heatsink and 30mm Pi Fan
              All at ambient 21C

              20% CPU at 1500mHz
Fan switches On at 55C CPU-Temp
              Reset to Off at 47C Cpu-Temp - Fan cycles Off-On-Off ...

Idle Box - Leanback Launcher screen
              Fan stays Off - CPU-Temp 48-50C (Ambient 21C)

              Summary
              40C
              - Not tested but the 40C - May switch on when idling dependant on ambient temp. Switch on with any increased load.

              45C
              - 45C KSD9700 will not start the fan when idling .. will cycle the fan when watching YouTube etc. .. Will keep the fan on when using higher load apps.

              50C
              - Not tested - Should start fan when there is an appreciably high load but stay off when lower load like YouTube is in use.

              55C
              - Over-temp protection - Only switches on at high temperatures.

              HTH
              YMMV

Thanks, P.X. Where and how did you mount the switch?

Hi guys, I just recieved this item from gearbest, it comes with latest OTA friwmare built on 16 March 2018. This is new unit from factory I guess, maybe it will be better than yours. What .apk should I use for cpu temp? And how do I isntall it? How on normal android? Can i just use usb stick? I installed AIDA64 from GP, shows 52C standy, is it okay or abnormal?

                    Hi,

                    Test Mountings ...

Small piece of Thermal Pad along heatsink and a piece of Double-sided foam tape (Red backing) to press Switch against heatsink/pad.
Same for the Temp Probe (White)
2x Strip of Vinyl tape underneath the KSD9700-NO to isolate from PCB components (tiny little resistors)

Above tests using MX4 Thermal Paste - gives a faster response to rises in temp than Thermal Pad (about +2C delay to On temp).
Final fixing with HY910 Thermal Glue should be more like the MX4 tests as used above.

this app - https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...n.cputemppure# shows 43C, which temp should I trust?

52C sounds pretty good for an L box idling.

Use AptoideTV to install "CPU Temperature" app

This is a temporary mounting using a pad or paste.
Final mount, just use some HY 910 Thermal Glue to stick to side of Heatsink (same position).
Insulate from PCB with some vinyl tape - Just in case !!!

The wiring is simple - just wire in series with the Neg/Black wire to the Earth/0V point - I am using the shroud of the Ethernet port for 0V !
