The 20181024 Firmware works great on my X99 rk3399 tv box. Use the RK android tool v2.43 UPGRADE FIRMWARE TAB. need the 3.0 small USB cable and the USB to USB big cable to work.
Make sure you plug the small USB cable into the 2.0 USB on your computer. Haven't had any issues with the firmware at all.

No SuperSU not installed as an app. When I got box it wasn't rooted and run very bad. Had firmware 20180624 on it.

Plugin the small 3.0 USB cable first into the box. Then hold the reset button and plug USB(big) to USB (big) into 2.0 USB on your computer and other end into the box while holding reset button. You will hear a sound knowing your box is connected. hen startup the RK android tool v2.43, load the firmware and hit upgrade.
