How to identify M6 Pro vs Max M6Pro ?

      Hello all,

Can you tell me how to recognize if i have a M6 Pro or an Max M6 Pro ?

      I bought this model :http://www.pipo.cn/En//index.php?m=P...cid=199&type=2

Do you know a ROM compatible with this model (with 3G) ?

      Thanks in advance.

The two versions are very similar, except the newer Pro version comes with a GPS chip. However, there are some other components that are different, such as wifi.

If you still have the box, it will say MAX M6 Pro on it, if you have the pro version. Otherwise, you have the plain M6.

The ROM in post #1 of this thread is for the Max M6...not the Pro version.

Here is the link to the Pro version ROM:

If you flash one or the other of these and you can't get wifi to work...or the touch screen acts strangely...then you need to flash the other ROM.

If the tablet gets stuck during the flashing process, use the instructions in this thread:

Otherwise, follow the First Time User's Guide...included in the zip file very closely. The installation of the Windows drivers is very important to get right. But once you have that accomplished, you are set to flash each and every time.

Also one thing to remember is that the flash tool currently has a bug which prevents you from using your PC to reboot to flash mode by clicking the button. There is a folder within the ROM kit that contains an alternate tool, RKBatchTool, which if you press "switch" to reboot the tablet to flash mode (or use the instructions above and do it the manual way). Then you can go back to the flash tool and flash the ROM. Just have both tools running as administrator and switch back and forth.

Again....follow the written instructions carefully....there's quite a bit more to it than what I have written here.

I wish you good luck on your first time!!!!!

I'm afraid that I'll be at work in a little bit...and won't have time to help much...but maybe some of the other users can chime in with their experiences to help you out if you get into trouble.

Just remember, it is almost impossible to permanently brick one of these Rockchip tablets, so if you get to the point where nothing is working...just ask. The information I gave you above and reading the First Time User's Guide a couple of times before you start will do wonders.

I don't mean to be a downer but I've had just about enough of my M6. It has a great battery life, nice screen (even when the display is set to Normal instead of HD), runs most games reasonably well and swiping between homescreens is always smooth unlike many Android devices.

But I've had enough of the constant freezing (requiring a hard reset through the hole in the back), the stutters in the Browser and some other apps, the pathetic Wi-Fi strength and the barely audible speakers. With each ROM update, I keep hoping for improvement and yet nothing. I'm sorry to say but I don't think there's been any improvement with each ROM update (although it's definitely better than the stock was). I know it's not your fault Riley. In fact, I really appreciate what you've been doing. But it seems the folks at Pipo just has no bloody idea how to make a decent firmware. I'm not asking for much. I'm even willing to look past the WiFi problems and the barely audible speakers. I just want a device that doesn't freeze all the time and doesn't take 30 seconds every now and then to register a tap.

I'm sorry to say this but I think the people who think they notice "slight" improvements are just suffering from placebo. I've tried every ROM, including the 1.5+1.6 mix and just this morning upgraded to 1.8. And what do you know? It froze after 2 hours. Same story with every previous ROM. There are still stutters in the Browser and apps like Currents and Facebook.

I'm gonna be looking to sell mine and hopefully find a decent alternative that supports microSD expansion (shame the Nexus 7 doesn't). If I can't sell it then I'll take great joy in smashing this thing into pieces.

It sounds like you have a hardware problem. I had regular freezes requiring a hard reset on early versions of the ROM but since around 1.4 I haven't had one. However I do think there is a problem with PIPO's quality control. My screen visibly flexes causes an oil type effect which no one else has mentioned. If you are very lucky you get a perfect machine, less so you end up with a machine that with careful handling is workable (my case) and if very lucky you get a machine like yours.

Of course requesting a replacement is complicated due to purchasing from the other side of the world.

Well the regular freezing seems to be happening to many people here, even on the later ROMs. Either we're all unlucky or Pipo just makes shit firmware/hardware.

I wouldnt say mine is regular.. its every 2 days.. every 8 days depends.. no pattern to it. but not that often. and its very rare it freezes when i'm using it.. just normally when pressing the power button it refuses to come out of sleep

Who knows if its hardware or software.. but if its software it may be rockchips sdk..

To me, that's regular. Mine also happens for no particular reason. Sometimes i just opened a website, sometimes I'm loading a story on Currents. Could be a week or a day between freezes. It's never frozen whilst playing a game or watching a HD movie though strangely...

EDIT: Come to think of it, it's only happened with Google apps (Maps, YouTube, Currents, Chrome...).

Funny you mention the google stuff.. I was thinking a while back that it was related to an app running in the background. Maybe gmail or something. I try and end the apps when I have used them.

Regarding using Chrome.. Dont! It runs like a dog on this tablet for some reason.. just use the stock browser (based on chrome) it still syncs and stuff with your desktop. You get very few pauses the keyboard doesnt lag its just nicer. Google for chrome performance on tablets and you will see lots of people wingeing about it even on the nexus tablets.. firefox is ok.. but the standard browser just seems to work..

Yeah I stopped using Chrome since I left the stock ROM. It can't remember if it has completely frozen whilst using the default Browser but it definitely had a couple of stutters every now and then. Nothing major though I think. By the way, my M6 just froze again a few hours ago and it had nothing to do with any open apps. I just pressed the power button to wake it up and couldn't even swipe to unlock. Haven't had a device that's annoyed me so much since my old desktop running Windows 95 with the BSD.

I dont know why such issues are there. But my M6 is a perfect piece of hardware and flies with the 1.5-1.6 combo. So I don't intend to experiment and change it. Everything works like a charm. And I believe, we are in a forum where there is no work on the kernel. If someone could get the kernel sources aand do a bit of tweaking on it, we could be in for drastic results! I have seen it happening on every android mobile I have, P500, Deft+ and Micromax A110. Lets hope our prayers are answered. Unless we catch and overpower the M6 kernel by its horns we might just have to be happy with cosmetic changes on the ROM. Only a tweaked kernel can unleash the true power of any android device finally...

And guys please use 1.5-1.6 combo with Crossbreeder. That works for me like magic! No FC whatsoever. So if it works for at least one, it means that it may be hardware related...

Never heard of the Crossbreeder. After looking it up, it sounds very interesting. Just installed it, will report back with results

EDIT: Okay, it really didn't take long for me to notice the improvements. Compared to before, it's like the machine has a rocket strapped to its back now! Of course, it's only been 10 minutes so still don't know if it will freeze again or not but if it keeps performing like this, I might not care! By the way pradipsoman, when you said you haven't had any FC, did you mean freezing which required a hard reset via the back hole? Thanks for introducing some of us to Crossbreeder!

I think you could have a problem related to the hardware, perhaps the RAM, try a stability test with antutu, or another RAM test to verify if there is something wrong somewhere...
