T-R42 custom firmware by wasser

Hi Wasser,

I did some tests last night with the new kernel and it is still not working right/consistent.

Here is my result:

1) Pressed the Power button on the IR remote once to bring up the Sleep/Power Off/Reboot screen and it shut down the device. I have to unplug the power cord cable and plug it back in to turn the device on.

2) Pressed and hold the Power button on the IR remote to bring up the Sleep/Power Off/Reboot screen and it did. I tried put it into Sleep and Wake up through IR remote and it worked on my first attempt. NOTE: The LED light on the little button of the device did NOT turned from Blue to Orange. The light just turned off. I tried the second time to put it into Sleep and Wake up through IR remote and it did NOT worked. I had to use the little button on the device to Wake Up and it did a fresh reboot instead of resume.


The original stock firmware that came with the box behaves like this.

1) Pressed the Power button on the IR remote once to bring up the Power Off/Reboot screen and it did successfully with no issues.

2) Selected Power Off after the Power Off/Reboot screen came up would put the device into Sleep mode. NOTE: The LED light on the little button of the device turned from Blue to Orange.

3) Pressed the Power button on the IR remote after device Power Off and it Wake Up the device successfully with multiple attempts.

Is it possible if you can make it behaves like the original stock firmware that came with the box? There is an original stock firmware that came with the box already uploaded and I wonder if you can take a look at it and see if you can make the custom firmware works like that.

it's exactly what i'm trying to fix the kernel to behave like the stock kernel , but it's not easy. it takes time!

I have been testing Your K-R42 Kernels ... Very Nice ...
Two Small things:

1) It Would be Nice to Have the LED Button Turn Orange when in sleep Mode.
(Not Very important just nice)

2) If I reboot From The Power Button Menu then the System starts having USB issues
with Remote sleep and USB devices not waking up ...
NOTE: This issue ONLY happens if I reboot using the Power Button Menu .
Normal Power on works great and no issues ...

3) I still have to test stay awake over night will Report in morning ...as to status ...

Hi all,

I joined this forum a few days ago due to problems encountered with my T-R42 box. Actually, I am planing on selling it because its actually of no use right now. It really doesn't matter what Player I use, 1080p videos are un watchable. 720p videos are also not very smooth - XBMC is even the worst of all. I have tried different XBMC builds without luck.

Can someone here confirm if a smooth 1080p video playback is possible on this unit? if the answer is yes, what player would you recommend?

I used to have Minix Neo X5 for almost 11 months. They also promised 1080p but after 11 months they still could not get it to play well. I was sick and tired of the unit so I sold it and now I am stuck with this one and once again not able to deliver the 1080p as promised even with quad core.

It would also be nice if someone can direct me to a good guide on how to flash firmwares and how to root this unit (A-TR42). I would also like to know the difference between firmwares and kernels and when to flash what.

I will very much appreciate your help.

First, great work on the ROM. I did a bit of testing and things are working fairly well. There is one issue and one addition:

- In all the kernel's that I've used, there is a boot1080p that is required to set the high resolution. Your kernel has 1080p support, but there is no boot to correspond. (reference Finless Bob's ROMs). In testing, I found that even though you can set 1920x1080p, you are only actually getting 1280x720p. Setting the higher resolution actually appears clearer, but does not add resolution.

Any chance of a boot1080p or am I missing something?


- On addition I made was to use the 6gb parameter file from Finless. My T-R42 8gb Flash, and the additional space is helpful.

Antutu Benchmark was quite good; 18800. Video Playback was also smooth. I ripped 1080p mkvs from a couple of Blueray disks and they look fine and smooth. Ethernet, Wifi, and bluetooth also work as expected. I've noticed a few strange reactions to Ethernet versus Wifi. If you use ethernet, the tray often says 'no internet connection'. Seems like it shouldn't care ethernet versus wifi. Any thoughts here or is that just the Android?

all work fine!

but roms are not stable, make the device auto shutdown by itself after a few hours. Does anyone have the same problem?

1. i will add boot1080p in next firmware
2. several parameter files will be added in next firmware
3. that the tray says "no internet connection" is new for me. it should not. Could you please attach the screenshot from the tray with "'no internet connection"?

I tested the NEW kernel ...

1) It still stops working after 3-5 sleep on/off
2) It is different ... Because Now the Power Button on the Unit will wake it
Back up (sometimes it works...but not always) ... before I had to unplug it ...

the dmesg looks fine to me, it's strange that it doesn't work correctly.
Does the issue behave like in k-r42?
