Thank you colinabroad, unfortunately even the reset didn't solve the problem, the power button doesn't turn the screen on/off, but can only power off / reboot the tablet. It looks like no screenlock is available at all, also the screen never times out, i'm forced to have the tablet always on, no sleep at all, this is a HUGE PROBLEM.

I actually installed 8gb of apps and 20gb of files (pics, movies, data files).

How can i solve this problem without loosing the files? well i could reinstall the apps but i hope the data space won't be erased... should i reflash? What did i do wrong?

Blimey Bill! If i need to worry about all of this just to root stock I think I will pass and wait for Randy to do his magic. Thanks for taking the time to explain, but this is a step too far for me. Rgds. Colin.

devilmc - the power button behavior you describe is what you would expect to see if you had flashed 1.9 and not 1.9test2. When you boot, you should see RileyRom in the top right corner, and that is followed by bootanimation which had issues before test2 and didn't display anything for me. With test2, it displays a similar image but it is much smaller and animated. The short power button and timeout worked again for me in 1.9 by deleting the bootanimation.zip found in /system/media/. You would just need a root explorer (making sure /system/ is changed to Read/Write) to delete it. It could also be RM'd via usb cable if you have ADB working. If you do see the small animated RileyRom screen when you boot, you do have Test2 and it is likely something else you may have installed, running app, ... that blocks turning off the screen.

Hi devil! Your symptoms are from the previous rom, so i suggest you reflash but make sure you are in the test2 folder installing all that stuff on a test rom was not quite the right thing to do. Perhaps you should wait until a fully tested rom is released? If you put the photos on an external sd card you won't lose them with a reflash. If you invest in titanium backup from play store it will insall your apps back for you after a reflash - but you need an external sd card to store the backup onto. So put a 32gb sd card in [you can copy your files on from windows first] backup your apps with titanium - change where backup goes in the preferences first] then flash test 2, or wait for the next release. Hope this helps. Rgds colin.

That isn't just to ROOT. With ADB, you can Push/Pull files between the PC and M9Pro, backup-restore, and a whole lot of things that are just a copy-paste in Windows instead of typing on the tablet. If you aren't a command line guy (ME), it is less useful. BUT, being able to copy an entire TitaniumBackup directory from the internal SD to the PC when you don't have an external SD would be helpful to some.

Thanks Bill. I was a command line guy back in the days of win 3.1, but not any more! I use myphoneexplorer to manage file transfer and syncing between android and windows - its drag & drop and wireless. And discovering esfileexplorer can open files across the work wifi was a revelation. The tablet [and my note] are just like real computers with these two apps. I don't need to drag the titanium files over, they are synced automatically!

I can confirm that with Riley 1.9 Test 2 i solved all my problems and I thank you for all your help.

Wifi works perfectly at full speed now.

I have only 2 problems now

                1) The screen never goes to sleep and the power button doesn't turn on/off the screen, it's always on.

                2) Can i install a phone application to use the 3G Sim card to make phone calls? I had very ultra cheap chinese tablets that could make phone calls with the 3G module. How can we do it?

#2 - PiPO product specs always states the 3G access is for data only. This won't preclude you from using an APP like "SKYPE"

                  m9pro phone

If the hardware is there then the stock android phone would work, but Pipo tell us it is not there. They also told me I cannot have multi-user, but that is done with the addition of two lines in the build prop. I too have a cheap chinese tablet that does work as a phone with stock android 4.1.2. So maybe one day Randy can work his magic on getting text messaging to work as well. Go to the wish list thread in the forum and add your wish...one day it may come true. Or.....load up the older Pipo sms rom and suffer the lack of wifi. It is possible of course that Pipo may well release a new sms rom now they have fixed the wifi?

to be honest i'm quite confused.

Anyway, i installed test2 downloaded from page 10 of this forum.

I do have on right upper corner of boot an animated small riley rom icon.

The screen lock / sleep problem is there from first but, so it's not caused by apps.

How can i solve without reflash? I'm already on test 2...

Wow...a lot has transpired here over the past several hours...sorry I haven't been around to play. It was a very tough shift in the ER yesterday/last night...and I slept a very long time to recover.

It looks like the problems are being solved by you experienced users, and I thank you for that...helping noobies is what Freaktab is all about. We were all noobies at some point (just browse some of the older Arnova threads and see how stupid I was at the beginning of Freaktab...hahahaha!!!!!).

Tell me more about this sleep/standby bug. Exactly what is happening, and does it happen on everyone's device?

To summarize what I gather from the last couple of days is that I need to go back to my original plan of debloating EVERYTHING from this final version and get down to bare minimum...is that correct? What should I leave in?

As I wrote earlier I had this on/off/sleep 'dead' after the initial flashing of 1.9/T2 but a single reset did the trick and ever since the unit works 100%, including the on/off. Let me mention that already after the first flashing (before reset) I replaced the bootanimation file with one of my own (a small DNA spiral).
Haven't noticed any issues since than
                        Greetings

                          Sounds fantastic.

My next test will be completely debloated. We will see if that changes anything.

At least we are both confused.

Can you confirm the location of the rileerom icon? Is it the upper right corner of the screen? Is it more in the center of the screen, but in the right corner of a smaller image that is in the center of the screen? I'm looking for an image that appears in the center of the screen that appears AFTER the image that has RileyRom that really is in the top right corner of a full screen image.

It USED to be that ES File Explorer was present on RileyRoms, but it seems to have been debloated away. If you have some Root Explorer, X-plore, ... app, use it to look for a file called bootanimation.zip in /system/media and note the file size / date and post that here. /system/ is normally read only so you can't move or delete the file, but the explorers can be configured to make it read/write so that you could delete the file (or rename it to bootanimation.zip.SAVE) and see if that helps. If you have download some app that gives you a terminal window or added ADB support, that would be another route to check and remove the file to test. It doesn't hurt to not have the file present - the animation just reverts to the word ANDROID.

AFAIK, you are the only one with a short power button issue with test2 (except during the initial Setup after installing). You should also be able to make a backup of all your installed apps and their data now, before any re-flash, and restore them after a new rom, an update to 1.9, ...

My two cents: Initial "re-Bootup" is similar to v1.8 with the 'new user' three check boxes except no problems from the APK check sequence. I left that "checked" and no issues arose except the certificate store wanting immediate access to the InterNet to complete startup.

No keyboard, WiFi, power on/off, or sleep issues. This ROM DID FIX the issue of not recognizing a USB-to-Ethernet Adapter. Only v1.8 had this issue. Prior ROMs AND v1.9 recognized this device.

I did miss: GPS Test, the two ES Utilities (File Explr, Task Mgr), latest version Adobe Flash
                              Those aren't deal breakers.

I did figure out how to edit the Parameter file with different HEX values for various UserSpace sizes(2-32GB). I will need at least three data points from your ROM releases. The 4-8-12GB sizes you've been using works for me. I will release the spreadsheet to the community when you 'finalize' your ROM.

i'm probably not in test 1 because the riley upper right corner logo is not animated and the bootanimation is not there (black screen) so probably that's the reason, but i'm sure i downloaded the test 2... i'll give it a try again redownlading carefully in this thread and will let you know, meanwhile i will try deleting the bootanimation.zip
