Thanks for the feedback. I have learned a few techniques to hopefully solve at least some of the problems you mentioned...I was going to add to my next ROM. But I bricked my M8 Pro and still haven't fixed it.

I have been playing around with KitKat...but don't have a working ROM yet.

Stay tuned for an update when or if I get my tablet unbricked. Ill have to wait until Tuesday before I have any time to work on it.

I'm pretty sure I'm shorting the correct chip pins. I just haven't had time to get back to it.

          Rileyrom 2.1 on Odys Prime

          Hi,
I am not sure, weather my westions is placed well here and if you want to help me out with this.
I wanted to add multi user support to my Odys Prime and after reading a bit I have read about somebody who sucessfully flashed this Rom to his Odys Prime. So I supposed this is the easiest way. And yes, flashing worked fine. The first thing I noticed: the volume buttons are no volume buttons anymore. One was "back" and the other one I just don't remember. But that is no problem for me.
However, I tried to set up a second and third user. But the tablet tells me about Product activation and I should enter a licence key. So I installed root uninstaller and removed "Certificate Center". That did the trick and I could select wether I wanted the laucher or family launcher. But only the launcher works, what I can understand. But what I do not understand is the fact, that there seems to be an overlay ontop of everything (transparent gray). I tried different launcher and found out that using the Go Launcher ex (mode for phones supoorting just low resuolution) does not show this overlay, but if I start an App with higher resolution, the overlay is back. I also have this overlay with the Go Launcher HD.
Does anybody has an idea what to do to get rid of this gray overlay? (I also tried to remove Pipo Launcher and Pipo Familiy launcher - no success. Removing Launcher resulted in black screen for the other user, but not for the owner user.)
Then this CustomRom would be fine for me and my Odys Prime.
Thanks in advance for your help!

            HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!

            Comment

              Good News!!!!

I unbricked my M8 Pro and I'm back in business!!!!!!!

While flashing my ROM back to this tablet, I noticed there were some improvements I needed to do. I've learned some new techniques in the last month that I can add to make this ROM/Tablet even better.

Kazy, I appreciate your feedback. The Pipo M8 Pro doesnt' have external volume keys. The rocker is mapped as Esc and Menu..so that explains why you are not getting your volume controls. Using Google, you can find a way to re-map those keys back to volume, if you want. I think someone actually posted a way to do that in one of the earlier ROM threads, but I can't remember where.

Until now, Provision.apk has given me some headaches. I've learned how to fix that, so my update will include at least a partial fix. I think I will eliminate the errors, but I'm still not sure what to do with the screen background on subsequent user's accounts. The app HAS to be there, or the home key quits working...so I've had to do some changes to bypass all of the provision crap. The only way to do this is to totally eliminate the Pipo Family Launcher from here on out.

Stay tuned for an update pretty soon. Since I'm still using the same firmware version, this will be v2.1.2.

                Pipo M8 Pro RileyROM 2.1.2

I have just finished testing v2.1.2 for the M8 Pro.

Basically, I have taken the most recent official Pipo firmware (not KitKat), and added much of what I've changed in my ROM designs over the past month.

This new version has all of the features of 2.1 with the addition of a few things:

                Full debloat...no more Pipo Launcher
Auto Install added...see this thread for details of how this works: Autoinstall
                Updated Google Play Store app
Tweak added to improve deep sleep function

                Download v2.1.2 Wifi

                Download v2.1.2 3G

                  Hi rrileypm,
thank you for your kind words.
The button map thing I found a few days ago, but that is not that important for me in this very moment.
Does anybody have an idea about how to get rid of the gray overlay?

Do you think it is a problem with the provision.apk?
Best regards and Happy new year!

Btw, congratulation that you could revive your brick...

                      Hi rrileypm,

I'm using RileyROM2.1 and want to flash to RileyROM2.1.2 because of the advanced deep sleep feature.
Do I really have to erase IDB?

Thanks for your help. But I am afraid I have to tell you, it is still not working.
I do not have the licence trouble and the Laucher has no gray overlay. So I was quite excited, but no matter which app the second user starts, the gray overlay is back :|
                        Any suggests?

I started from scratch on this ROM, so the file size of the system.img is different. To be safe, I would erase IDB for this one. Any time you change ROM versions, I would erase IDB anyway.

Honestly, other than turning the feature on, I have only played around with multi-user once or twice...since I don't really need the feature. I will do some more homework on that one. Pipo doesn't support multi-user and they omit some of the required content in order for it to run correctly. Maybe I can explore what is missing and try to add something else to make it work right. At this point, I'm totally in the dark on that issue.

Odys does not support multi user feature as well, that was the reason for me to use this rom.
Anyway, your last post reads as if you have this problem with the Pipo tablets too. If that is the case, I am looking in the wrong direction.
I supposed it is some kind of licence thing or whatever. Something that one piece of software wants me to restrict using it. For example, when I log in as second user, I do not have an overlay. When I press settings I first see the background and the settings icon in the upper left corner, but together with the menu items comes the overlay.

One thing I was just reading explains that Google does not support the use of paid apps across multiple user accounts. The idea is that they want you to buy the app for each account you want to run the app with. I guess you could try side loading (installing) game apps for each user and see if the apps work under the individual account...(I haven't played with it).

Also, I've read that background screens are only available with live wallpaper's.

If you use Titanium Backup as your source for backing up your device, you must install the app (paid) on each account with a key for each account...and you must run a backup for each user, individually.

I'm not really planning on running tests with paying for multiple app installations...but if anyone has done so, feel free to report your findings.

Also, another tip I read about the use of multi user is to install a launcher that supports hiding apps from the app drawer. This way, you can hide apps containing personal information of the primary user from the guest user's account. Apex and Nova launchers support hiding apps from the drawer.

I'm definitely no expert...I'm just sharing what I've read. I've also asked the other developers here at Freaktab to share with me their experiences with multi-user.

The bottom line is that I've turned it on. If someone wants to share how they use it...we would really appreciate the contribution here on Freaktab.
