Yeah...Chinese translation can be entertaining sometimes with Google.

      Mail with 2.4 ROM

      Hi Randy
I have been using the 2.2 ROM ever since you put it up. I haven't changed to the 2.4 ROM because I was very happy.
Anyway today (Saturday) I decided to upgrade. All went well and I got all my apps back using Titanium restore.
I setup my email accounts - pop server and a smtp server.
The incoming server is on port 110 and works fine.
The outgoing smtp server is on port 25 and in previous versions of your ROM I have been able to change the port to 25 and send emails (and talk to dropbox).
Now this doesn't happen. No matter what I try I can't change the port from 587. It changes on the screen and I save but it won't stick. So I can't send emails or access my drop box.
Is there a way to fix this?
Thanks for your ROMS and any help you can give me.
      Peter

I'm sure there is a file somewhere...but it's like finding a needle in a haystack.

Let me see what I can find.

          OK, maybe this is it.

Look in system/etc/firmware for a file named nvram_AP6330.txt.

You need a rooted explorer app...with root permissions activated.

Open the file in a text editor (X-plore comes with one built in).

On line 18 there is an entry called pa0b0=5587

Change the number to something like 5025 and reboot to see if that works. You can try variations of this and experiment. It has to be somewhere in those txt files...it may not be that one, but it's worth a try. Otherwise, I'm not sure where the setting is.

That entry is also in nvram_AP6476.txt

It's the 3g version. I read all about Riley ROMs and decided to try it out. Installed v2.4, but the problem was it changed my IMEI to 12345678. I thought that wasn't normal, so I flashed 2.2, which works(IMEI was recovered, 3G working), but I get random reboots, which is very annoying.
Can you guide me as to how to backup and restore the efs folder so that I could flash 2.4(to hopefully get rid of these random reboots) and restore the IMEI to v2.4?
Is it possible to flash 2.4 without starting over? I really don't want to reinstall all the apps and download all the files.

              Thank you!
Get titanium backup and just backup your apps. I would put all the downloaded files on a external SD card. If you don't want to mess up your homescreen layout you can use the app "my backup root" to backup this as well. When you backup apps with titanium the data for the apps are also saved so no need to worrie:-)

Anybody had some problems with apps not starting? The app "hemnet" won't start for me. It has worked in all previous roms though. Tried reinstall but it doesn't help. I use this app alot in my work so I would really love to get it working. It's a Swedish real-estate app.

Are you using CWM recovery? Are you left /data partition not touched when flash the ROM? This might be the case.

I'm sorry, I don't really understand. I use cvm but I do all my backups with titanium. All I use cvm for its installing zip files. I never backup system data. I always erase IDB when flashing.

It could be Titanium backup than. I've had such problem with some apps, they were not worked after restored by Titanium on new ROM with new kernel.

Yeah I've had that problem too. But I've uninstalled the app, then downloaded it from appstore and reinstalled it. Still doesn't work. Might try to reinstall the rom to see if that helps. Might go back to 2.3 because I've had some spontaneous reboots with 2.4.

This morning, I've been reading posts on Pipo's Chinese forum. This is quite entertaining, using Google Translate. I don't think that people actually talk...or even think the way Google translates Chinese into English...but I am able to gain some information.

It appears that the firmware that I created 2.4 with is quite buggy. I haven't encountered some of the problems you guys are reporting, but if you want a more stable tablet...I hate to say...go ahead and flash back to 2.3 or 2.2. Just read those threads to determine if problems with those versions outweigh the problems you are having with this version.

While this tablet is still relatively new, Pipo still has not released a KitKat firmware for it, yet. One post promised a KitKat version to be released last week...but nothing happened. Which is odd, because the other tablets that have received KitKat previews appeared to have features like 3G and GPS disabled. Maybe Pipo is putting some more work into this one BEFORE releasing it to the public. I can only hope.

What about wifi issues that people are having. Like I say, I have not encountered the problem, myself. Is it signal strength or dropouts that you are experiencing. I may be able to address this.

I installed rr 2.3 and now the app works again. Think I'll stay on this one until there will be a stable kitkat update :-)

Hi Randy. Thanks for the info. Spent a fun few hours looking around for that number but nothing I did had any effect.
Decided to reflash and now the problem has gone away. Can send and receive happily. Ah well!
                              Thanks for your help.

That's interesting. The erase IDB must not have gone right the first time. If this happens, you sometimes get bits and pieces of the old ROM bleeding through, which causes unusual problems.

Anyway, I'm glad you got things working.
