I can honestly say I never had that Problem. At least not as simply as you seemed to have described it here. The closest I could have came to such a description of "crashing" on my Android Box. It was because of all the ROM Hopping (As I term play testing such Custom ROMs such as Amlinux or OpenELEC), I've done, deciding that it just wasn't "mature enough", and then returning back to the Stock Android version. where I promptly re-installed Play Music.....

          BIG MISTAKE!!!

These Boxes do not have either a permanent MAC Address, or better still some IMEI, or MEID... Address with which to be unique enough to be a "Single Device". Even the simple act of doing a Factory Wipe at the 3e Recovery would be enough to create a "New Device", if your not careful.

So what am I banging on about?
Google Maximum allotted Number of Ten active Devices, at any One time. You can verify this by simply logging into https://play.google.com/music/listen#/now, clicking the Cog in the Upper Right Side, and scrolling down, till you hit "Manage My Devices".

I'm gonna guess you've hit "The Wall" on Devices <"Device"> (In my case it was "MBX MBX MXIII").

Sadly for anyone whos been caught up this, One might have assumed Ok, all I need to do is to "Deauthorize", a few of these Clone "Devices", then the World can be a good, and happy Place again.... Nope... Since late last Summer Google have reset their draconian policy of ONLY ALLOWING ONE TO DEAUTHORIZE UP TO FOUR (i.e. 4) DEVICES PER ANY 365 Day PERIOD! (i.e. One Calender Year, from the Date of when you decativated your last Device.). Worse still was that this landed with almost NO WARNING AT ALL! Sure this won't hit Suzy-Lu_who, and her Galaxy S 3 Who's quite chuffed with Samy's TouchWiz. People like you, and I however seemed to have gotten stung HARD by this.

If it turns out that I'm right, you can try contacting Google and, ask them if they can do you the One-time courtesy of resetting your Account. (i.e. They'll reset the entire Device List back to Zero. So if you have it on a Phablet, like I do... Then you'll just have to log-in on that Device again... No biggie!)

So how can I prevent this from happening again?

I managed to find a few Tools on the Play store that, you can use to change your Device ID, and by Proxie the IMEI / MEID Number. In certain instances it may be enough to prevent a Device Change. But, the longer I've been playing with this, the I've come to the conclusion that its the GSF (Google Services Framework Key), that's to blame. Though as far as I understand it.... Its supposed to be a randomize on every Factory Reset. So if it really is to blame? Sadly just resetting the freshly created Device ID & IMEI / MEID Numbers (From the "Device"), to an earlier known set, has not allways prevented Google from seeing a completely new Device at times.

          The Single Bullet Method...

The Single Bullet Method would be to, once you've gotten Google to reset your Device list, to track down your Device's Base Firmware, (i.e. That would have been 109k4 for me since 108k4 w/AP-6181 was never released to the Public!), and then use Amlogic's USB Burning Tool, to downgrade back to it (Or simply use the most current version if you like). Keeping, it as relatively clean as possible, and then finding a Device compatible version of TWRP*... (I had to use the k200 Version. What you might need?!), and eventually installing this onto the Device, and then make a backup and test it!

Now no matter what, you can almost never create a "New Device" ever again unless you wish to Factory Reset on the same Firmware. When it come to Updating the Firmware MicroSD (*.zip) File(s) just install it without wiping. Then once you hit Android... You'll be hit with another Update Screen. 2~3m depending on how many Apps you have installed at the time. Then Google Music should remain otherwise untouched.

this pretty much sums up my personal experience with Play Music on the MXIII Google (Android), TV Box....

*Assuming that you can. If your reading this Thread, then chances are very high that you can install TWRP now! I had to wait nearly Six Months for a K200 M82 MXIII version to land, Sadly to my regret ot in time to recover my stock 108k4 ROM. In fact TWRP was at that time largely responsible for bricking my Device (Well no, that would be your's trully!), but under the assumption that the S82 was otherwise the same thing as the M82, I flashed that and, then promptly killed the Device, until I was able to recover it again though Amlogic's USB Burning Tool. Needless to say it was a long Day!

What Apps might those be pray-tell? Netflix, Google Play Movies etc... Need to have a specific DRM System in place in order for them to work. That the MXIII has never had this DRM, and therefore NEVER WILL! Yeah you'll need to search for a new Device that has this. There aren't that many I gather, but they do exist, and are likely to cost a fair bit more then the 2G MXIII's too...

The only way I know of putting Kodi (Unofficially I might add...), is to go to http://kodi.tv/download/ and install the ARM (*.apk), yourself. So you could... If you had the room to, run both the stock 112k4 SPMC (e.g. XBMC 14.4 IIRC), plus the newer Kodi Build. Problem is (Or what I really dislike about Android Kodi), is the fact that it'll ask you to grant it root privileges, and then spew up all kinds of permission changes every time you want to start it up.

If you're asking about a Backup Copy, as such then. (I'd hope that you've heard of ES-File Explorer - Check the Play Store!), As you'd be able locate the stock XBMC, along with the Fishing Game, MX-Player, and Netflix in the /system/preinstall Directory.

To be honest... No Its not, an area in which I've bothers to do much research myself.
I'm far more interested in things like Bluetooth, and 802.11ac at the moment. besides who needs DRM, when you can watch pretty much what you want, when you want with Kodi. Yeah you have to forego a few things such as Netflix... But, then I'm not actually a Customer of theirs yet either.

I sure Google can find you a few Boxes capable of it though. But, I gather that since most of these Boxes are sold as Pirate XBMC Boxes. Enough so to get them to change the name to Kodi... (Like that's going to stop it!). There wont be very many Boxes that actually have this DRM built into them. Since such Devices have to undergo a certification pro¢€$$ as well, unless theirs more demand for it, and I'm not sure that there is. I'm not saying there isn't, but at this stage its more of an afterthought.

Thus why you got sussed out, with Apps that don't work, because they simply can NOT work without any DRM Protection enabled to play it back with.

Well you can probably be sure that the Shield will have the DRM Protections needed for Play Movies (Google), and Netflix to work. The wider questions I'd have about it are Two-fold.

How much do they want for it? (I suspect its likely twice that of a current S812-H SoC), and
How does the after Market Support look for such a Device?

In the case of the latter I guess it'll likely enjoy a bit of Cyanogenmod before the end. But, again your paying for that embedded DRM Function that most S8/02/05/06,and 12 SoC don't have. Plus the better bespoke Hardware from nVidia. If this Device wasn't has horribly overpriced as I expect it be, I'd likely consider it over the MINUX neo x8-h Plus.

I am running the Finless2.1 rom based on 111k4. It comes bundled with Gotham 13.4 that runs flawlessly on my S89 Elite.

For the Price of the Pipo x7... I'd rather have the Shield myself. Pluse this thing needs a 24W PSW lol what? Yeah that's still light years better then where I was with my old Linux HTPC @450W+. But, that things a downright Pig. When the MXIII can do the same functions (With or, without the DRM), with only half of that.

Then oh yeah (Here we go...), I'm the kind of Person that would like to see both Intel, and MicroSoft get taken down quite a few Pegs. I certainly am not looking for any Windows 8.x Box, and as to Intel on Android. Well I'd really have to play with it to draw any lasting conclusion. I feel that it would be riddled with incompatibilities with most of that World living on Planet ARM though, and so only loath to actually want an Intel SoC for Android.

If you really want to go Intel.... Why not suggest something with a bit more pizazz? Like the Intel NUC? Which One presumes can run just about everything from WinXP straight though to OSX (Hackentosh), and your choice of Linux? Unlike the Above Examples you can add up to 8Gbs of DDR3 SO-DIMM RAM, and your own 2.5" HDD (Think Linux VDR, Or OpenELEC w/TVHeadend), and have a very simple compact PVR System that blows less then >70W of Leccy? A seemingly nicer trade off for the HDD me thinks. Thanks to having (at least a spare Mini PCIe Slot), you could even add a TV Card (ATSC / DVB-C/ S(2) / T(2)) inside of it for Live TV. All for largely about the same cost as the Pipo ~200$(USD) Assuming that you already have a few Bobs & Ends lying 'round. (i.e. RAM & HDDs).

As One of the reviewers about about the Pipo X7 had suggested about that Device it could (Or in the case of the NUC), would be the perfect Desktop Replacement... If your not, a Gamer, and I'm not..
